I Can Feel Your Whisper

...A great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.** NOTE: The postings on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent my employers' ministry positions, strategies or opinions.**

Why can't we reach for help

Before they left the garden, God whispered a promise to Adam and Eve: “It will not always be so! I will come to rescue you! And when I do, I’m going to do battle against the snake. I’ll get rid of the sin and the dark and the sadness you let in here. I’m coming back for you!” And he would. One day, God himself would come.

So, one sick day seemed good
...but TWO? How can I take two?
Yet, two I shall take, in the name of "self-care".
Also in the name of "self-care" today: No wedding related planning or research. This is a tough one. Within 10 mins of making this step of faith today, I had a search typed into google and had to verbally say, "no!", close the window and open up tumblr to write about it.

Being sick
Today is Day 3 of fighting a fever, feeling weak, headaches and coughing. some reflections:
not too long ago, I may have thought, "I cannot afford to get sick. I have to much to do." I still have a lot to do...but today, I am sick and my to-do lists for work, church and life will just have to sit on the back burner.
I hate being sick. It's only been three days and it feels like suffering. But truly it is nothing compared to the battle that many people face around me. e.g. my cousin Tony who is in month 11 in his fight against cancer. Or my mom who suffers daily (even hourly) from generalized anxiety disorder.
Earlier this semester, I caught a cold, similar to what I am experiencing now. My method of recovery last time was working from home, inhaling cough drops on the hour every hour, light runs & workouts when my body could handle (I was training for my 1/2 marathon still). It took me about almost 2 weeks to recover from a common cold! This is Day 3 of minimal interaction with ppl, minimal movement, minimal exertion...and I think I am on the tail end of this cold. Yay me for learning how to take a sick day!

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

Here, I am in the presence of the great Artist. I am his student, admiring his craft. Here, there is stillness. Here, there is peace. And my heart begins to settle. #winterwalks
