It didn’t help that Christmas was only a few days away and all the good trees had been taken, all except one. “It’s too big for me to carry alone.” She’d even bought some beautiful ornaments for them to spend the afternoon decorating and some cookie mix for the kids in the apartment across from his.

What with a real tree, the real problem was branches falling off on the way up, anything else falling out making it lighter. Though he doubted the celebration would be big enough to even involve a tree, he was grateful for Kate’s decision in the end.
