Black women and among them many Black trans women were overwhelmingly THE people to follow back in the early 2010s on here, with all the blogs they ran about fashion and music and feminism and art and politics and philosophy. i felt so strongly even though i was at the time almost strictly an elder scrolls blogger And a somewhat clueless teenager lol. mind you its not that literally all of those users are gone now but most of them are and of those who remain most are nowhere near as active these days. it may seem strange now in 2025 but back in the day tumblr had a pretty solid reputation as an art-oriented social media website (for my thesis i had to read a lot of books and articles about the intersection of art and internet--tumblr gets brought up a LOT!) and a lot of that legitimacy was thanks to the Black bloggers keeping the taste levels high. hell a lot of respected musicians were tumblrinas once upon a time! like yknow if you werent around back then or maybe you only hung out in Fandom Spaces, it might be a little difficult to visualize, but this really was a very legitimate and Cool platform in a big way. its decline was caused by many things and yes administrative ineptitude and enshittification were some of them but the banning and unpersoning of so many Black bloggers and things generally becoming hostile and unappealing to them... that truly gutted tumblr as a social platform i tell you
