Its not an “achievement” for women if only white women are achieving it

Its not a “win” for women if only white women are winning it

Its not “representation” for women if only white women are being represented

Its not “women struggling for rights and justice” if its only white women struggling for white women’s rights and justice

If you’re a white feminist and you tell a Native woman to “be mad at both” any time they bring up injustice and racism targeting Native people within feminist circles, you need to really stop and check yourself.

Were YOU ever “mad at both?”

Did Native issues, or the racism and misogyny that Native women face, EVER make you as mad as whatever it is that you’re currently rallying against?

Did you even know about these issues in this first place?

Are you only telling Native women to “be mad at both” now that you actually have to re-analyze and be critical about a position you once held, or about a piece of media you found empowering or enjoyable?

Or are you just trying to gaslight Native women who have valid claims, trying to absolve yourself of guilt, dismiss their anger, and make them to the legwork so you can continue to ignore their voice and their demands?

But let’s be real, you’re probably not going to do that. So let’s make it nice and simple: do not fucking tell Native women to “be mad at both.” About anything. Ever.

The five U.S. attorneys along the border with Mexico, including three appointed by President Trump, recoiled in May 2018 against an order to prosecute all illegal immigrants even if it meant separating children from their parents. They told top Justice Department officials they were “deeply concerned” about the children’s welfare.

But the attorney general at the time, Jeff Sessions, made it clear what Mr. Trump wanted on a conference call later that afternoon, according to a two-year inquiry by the Justice Department’s inspector general into Mr. Trump’s “zero tolerance” family separation policy.

“We need to take away children,” Mr. Sessions told the prosecutors, according to participants’ notes. One added in shorthand: “If care about kids, don’t bring them in. Won’t give amnesty to people with kids.”
