“…regina, stop. that's insane.” she said, wincing even so as just the action of speaking made her side throb even worse than before. but it didn't matter. none of it mattered. not if it made sure that henry was safe-- that her family was safe. emma took a steadying breath before she forced herself upward again, back on her own two feet. looking over at her, she felt her face set as she gave a swift nod. "come on. let's keep going. you're sure this is going to work, right?"

insane . that’s exactly what this entire venture was. twenty eight years without a single ( well major ) blip and the moment her curse was broken, it had since been never ending with the weird and outrageous. it was exhausting, to say the least. a light scoff escaped past tightly pressed lips, dark orbs doing a lazily half roll. “yes well, welcome to the world of fairytales — this miss swan is your new normal.” from the corner of her eye, regina watched as the savior forced herself back on her feet. that was one thing about her, as insufferable as the blond had been, she was determined. “come on, we will be quicker if i help you.” giving emma the extra support with an arm around her petite waist, regina had to remind herself this was no god awful dream. their son had been kidnapped, to a land she had only ever heard stories about — and none of them good. “it has to.” the plan, wasn’t exactly a plan per say. it was a, guns blazing and hope for the best. henry needed them, the longer he was tangled in pan’s dark web, the more dangerous the situation was becoming. they had sneaked out of camp whilst the rest of their party slept, resting after a days trekking through what seemed like never ending land. “your parents are going to blame me for this, y’know.”

emma repositioned her phone in her hand and lifted herself from the bed, making her way down the hall to henry’s room at regina’s question. she opened her mouth to answer but the brunette on the other end had continued and she found herself smiling softly at the mayor’s obvious nervous tone. the proposition of staying at the mansion with regina caught emma of guard as she cracked their son’s bedroom door to peek inside. the words that rang in her head the most were when regina mentioned them all being together.  “i know i could tell you everything is fine but you won’t feel better until you see him, so why don’t you poof yourself here and we can talk about the second thing..” leaning up against the doorframe, her soft smile didn’t falter as she watch henry sleep. “i’m not saying yes, but i’m not saying no.”

Time had seemingly went ten times slower as she awaited for Emma’s confirmation that Henry was safe and sound in bed. Only what also followed, had taken Regina by surprise. “I can come over?” She asked in confirmation, the surprise of the invite evident in her tone. Instantly getting out of bed, the phone line suddenly went dead as she snapped her fingers, a whirl of purple smoke covering her. Appearing in the small loft, she walked out of the darkness with the smallest of smiles on her lips. “I can live with that.” She said in response to the last thing she had heard Emma say on the phone. Approaching the blonde, she peaked her head through the crack of the door. Laying in a peaceful sleep, was their son. A sigh of relief followed, as she quietly turned to face Emma. “Thank you for understanding, I know I’m being ridiculous.” She was, but after everything she couldn’t help it. Wrapping her silk dressing robe tighter against her body, she beckoned away from Henry’s room so they could speak more freely. “Go on, tell me I’m a paranoid fool.” She said with a light chuckle.

‘ i love you. ’ { From Robin }

The power of such three simple words, had Regina’s heart stop for a short few seconds. As much as such words got thrown around by others, they hadn’t been said to her since him. Like it did back then, a feeling of fear filled her. Her mothers words echoed loudly in her mind, love is weakness. It had been words Regina herself had stuck by since the untimely death of her first love. What if something were to happen Robin also? Those she had given her heart to, had seemingly suffered. Their foreheads rested against each other’s, the sincerity in his words and the dreamy smile that had followed - had her own lips form into a smile. “Robin..” she breathed out in a whisper, her entire being yelling at her to say it back. Yet still that part of her, warned her fiercely of the consequences that will follow if she were to open her heart up to another again. Only, it was too late. “I love you too.” The words that had been hanging onto the tip of her tongue, had now fallen. “I won’t deny, I am afraid.” She added, her gaze falling from his. The feelings she had for Robin, had brought her the purest of happiness, but with that happiness lingered paranoia and her own fears. “I couldn’t live with myself if something were to happen you..”

‘ touch me. ’

Touch me. The request that fell from Emma Swan’s lips, had the former Queen stood frozen, the words echoed through her head at high speed. Was this another of her own dreams? Would she awake and be laid in bed by herself, desperately yearning for those dreams to one day become true? Emma had not just been in her dreams, but in her thoughts for months now. Regina had saw her in a way that back when she had first arrived in Storybrooke, she’d of never believed she’d of seen the swan as anything other than a pest.

Her thoughts continued to move around her head like a whirlwind, but she HAD to test that this were real, that this wasn’t just another fragment of her unconscious imagination. Regina took a slow and cautious like step closer, dark orbs kept locked on green, as if waiting for Emma’s face to fade away. A shaky hand reached forward, nimble fingers had first made the contact with soft, flawless skin. Her heart began to beat rapidly, so fast that it was beginning to make her feel nauseous. Regina’s jaw clenched tightly shut, sucking in air through her nostrils as she tried to reframe herself from turning and walking right back out of the station. Emma really did know how to make an already difficult apology, all the more difficult. Brown orbs watched as the blonde sunk her teeth into the disgustingly sugary pastry. Her upper lip twitched, forcing her gaze from the bear claw. “Really Miss Swan, you want me to spell it out for you?” Regina muttered with a slight shake of her head. “For my little stunt running up to the election. Henry has informed me, that I may have played a little too dirty.” Having to stop the urge to roll her eyes, her apology was meaningless, she was only doing this to benefit herself in the long run. “I’m sure you will be a fine Sheriff.”

“Needed distraction? Something on your mind?“ Emma then asked if she would asked that when she first came to Storybrooke, Regina would’ve just ignored it and said she was going. They both came such a long way to be honest. “Don’t worry, my handwriting skills has improved I promise you that.” Maybe this wasn’t something Emma had in mind to spend time together with Regina. Yet she appreciated the help otherwise she would’ve been here all night and Killian would probably have to drag her home. Which is something she wouldn’t be looking forward for. Looking through the files as she was making a pile of the ones she has finished. 

She leaned back onto the chair while going through those boring files which was truly a lot. Although with help from Regina it shouldn’t take too long now. “Really, I have been noticing you’ve been a bit off lately. You okay?”

“Nothing of any great concern.” She lied, flashing a smile. Emma had her own life troubles, she was sure. It was nothing, an apple cider and a book wouldn’t help fix. Regina let out a light laugh, eyeing the blondes handwriting on the paperwork that sat before her. “Hm, whatever you say.” It was nice, to be at the stage now they could throw jests and jabs to the other and laugh about it.

Finishing off a file she had gotten stuck into, she glanced up at the sheriff. “Well I guess..” she dropped the pen with a sigh, Emma and her damn lie detecting superpower. “I guess I’ve just been pondering a little over the whole happy ending thing. I know I’ve done so much bad in my past, it’s most likely impossible for me to find any sort of true happiness. It’s silly really.” She dismissed it with a wave of her hand. Everyone else had found their happiness, but her. “Anyway, enough about me. How are things going with guy liner?”
