IC Decode: Concept Designed to Improve System Performance! Why & How – Know It Here

ICs stand for Integrated Circuits. A CMOS Integrated Circuit is a device that performs quadrature decoding, counter, and bus interface functions. IC decodes or decoder integrated circuits are therefore designed specifically to improve system performance in both digital closed-loop motion control and digital data input systems. The IC decoders manage the task by shifting time intensive quadrature decoder functions to cost-effective hardware. The IC decoders consist of quadrature decoder logic, an 8-bit bus interface and binary up/down state counter. The use of Schmitt-triggered CMOS inputs and input noise filters allow reliable IC decoder operation in noisy environments. These IC decoders contain a 12-bit counter and offer CMOS compatible tri-state output buffers.

Difference between IC Decode and Encode
In communication systems, IC encoders are used for transmitting digital information. There, the encoders reduce the number of bits needed to represent digital information, so that, the transmission link could transfer the encoded information using fewer lines. The encoders are also used for encoding the data which is to be stored for later use as it facilitates fewer bits storing over the available space.
The IC decoders perform the inverse operation of the IC encoders. They’re used to decode IC binary codes into respective min-terms which in turn represent individual symbols and characters. Both IC decode and encode components are combinational circuits as their output depends only on the current values of the input. Designing 2-to-4 Line IC Decoder
An IC decode is a multiple input multitude output logic circuit which converts coded input into coded output where input and output codes are different. The input code generally has fewer bits than the output code. Each input codeword produces a different output code word. There’s one to one mapping exists which can be expressed in the truth table. In an IC decode circuit; the encoded information is present as ‘n’ input producing ‘2n’ possible outputs. The 2n output values range from 0 to 2n-1.
