it's so weird(?) in a way learning about the different versions of spider-man/peter parker as a gen z. like i knew spider-man through both tobey maguire and andrew garfield because i was born in 2006 (YEAH I KNOW...) but i didn't really get into their versions since superhero stuff was labeled "for boys" while i was growing up (and it didn't help that i grew up in an asian catholic all-girls school where they taught traditional gender roles).
so technically my actual introduction to spider-man was through the mcu/tom holland's version because my dad became a big mcu nerd and getting into superhero stuff as a girl was "somewhat acceptable" around 2016.
yeahhh and now it's my first time watching spider-man (2002) and it makes me understand better as to why they chose to introduce mcu peter parker through civil war (2016) instead of further exploring his backstory because peter parker's story has been told through two versions at that point. also i remembered an interview in the past by an mcu staff where they explained why they framed spider-man: homecoming (2016) in such way because, again, peter's story has been retold countless of times already. i like how they took a different turn to it and specifically focusing on peter's interactions with other superheroes in the multiverse.
MY POINT. each spider-man portrayal is different but it's GOOD kind of different and i love it. then again it's the funny kind of weird when watching the 2002 and 2012 movies in 2025 because the portrayal of teenagers is WAYYY different as to how teenagers are portrayed in the media now. or maybe it's because i'm not american so american teens in movies look weird to me.
#icylancet zen#JUST YAPPING ABOUT SPIDER-MAN#as a girl raised by traditional gender roles#man i love spider-man i love peter parker#I LOVE TOBEY MAGUIRE I LOVE ANDREW GARFIELD I LOVE TOM HOLLAND#yes i am unfortunately 19...#shazam#im sorry if this makes you feel old

i've returned to my 13 year old self and started reading lots of irondad and spiderson fanfiction again so when i had to read this biography about a father-son found family relationship between a mentor and a student for a class, i was lowkey crashing out...
