Blyke History. Days 11-15. Because they're alladat! This pic is only missing one sibling - Uncle Charles. Half the people in this photo are no longer here with us physically. I actually remember when this was taken. It was one of my favorite times being in Mississippi as a kid. Everybody was there, and that was super rare. I have individual memories of and with each person in this photo - the most being with my mom, of course. 😍 Sometimes I have to stop myself from going too deep into my memory bank because I get so sad. Blyke History. Day 9. 2/9/1914 is the day my granddaddy was born. Today, I was asked a question about who would be the four people from any part of history that I would like to take a road trip with and why. I answered my grandparents, both maternal and paternal. I didn't have nearly enough time with Granddaddy. I was 10 when he died - I knew nothing. I do remember being sad once I realized he wouldn't be in his room anymore when we went to visit. This picture is a favorite of mine because I don't have many of Grandma and Granddaddy together. I love their smiles so much! These people are my history, and I wish I knew more about them. Blyke History. Day 5. I so love Black people! It took me to become a young woman before I really understood the enormity of "Lutha". Big or little, the man was magic. My aunt loooovvved Whitney, so I was introduced to her early. Luther, though - I couldn't get enough of him at one point in life. I hate that these two legends are no longer here with us. Blyke History. Day 3. Papa pronounced 'PawPaw'. 2/3/1926 Today would be his 96th birthday. Wow! Unfortunately, he left us in this realm nearly 7 years ago. Papa was the first entrepreneur I knew. He owned a fleet of dump trucks with his name on the side. I used to think that was so cool. He would sometimes take us over to Haskell Lemon to handle his business, I guess. All I know is I would have to be told NUMEROUS times to stop climbing the sand and rock hills over there. I loved it! I also remember going to Butler's with him - Butler was where he took the trucks to be serviced. I never got to ride in the trucks like my brother, but I did learn about responsibility early from Papa. He even cosigned the first car I bought at 19 years old! *The only cosign I've ever needed, thank you very much 😌* The man was AWESOME. A simple man who was always about his business. I still believe his greatest accomplishment was marrying my granny, which makes him one of the smartest men I've ever known, too lol! I loved and still love him. He always told me how smart and pretty I was. I was his one and only granddaughter 😇 and I wouldn't change one thing about him. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Papa. Blyke History. Day 2. When I stare at this picture for more than 15 seconds, I start bawling. Ugly cry. It's crazy how much I miss both of them - but Bea...I miss her the most. There is a love there that I don't even quite understand. It's overwhelming! She was just the best. Always. It didn't slip past me that today is a BEAutiful day. I woke up with her on my mind. My mom reminded me in passing. Every time I looked at the clock I said to myself "today's Granny's birthday." One of the most influential people in my life was born on this day in 1930. She was called home a few years back but a part of her remained here with me - that part that maybe the Lord didn't want to deal with yet lol! But, still, I got it. She would be 92 today and although I miss her terribly I'm wise enough to know that she left this place right on time. 92 years in this realm would have been far too long for her.
