                “ it’s a bit hard to explain, ”  she starts, brow furrowing for a moment as she tries to think of how to explain this to somebody who’s never experienced  MAGIC themselves.  “ i can promise, though, she won’t hurt herself. she won’t realize it, but anytime she feels unsafe or unhappy about something, her magic’ll spark up. when i was a kid, my mum would hide sweets out of my reach, and i was often able to pull them into reach. it’s more of an emotional thing until you get a wand to control it—  we don’t really need wands, but they make everything MUCH easier. but until she’s eleven, it’ll just be harmless, out-of-control, little charms. ”

                   he knows marlene wouldn’t lie about something concerning their daughter’s safety, but it’s still kind of hard for him not to worry at all. “well, you’re the expert on the field, so...” he shrugs, eyes still glued on the little girl smashing blocks together to make them fit. “i’ll still try to remember to watch her temper -- wouldn’t want any accidents happenin’. but for now i think it’ll be enough to get her ready for her nap, right?” so he leans in to kiss the blonde’s temple before going up to their daughter, a wide grin on his face. “hey, doll; i think it’s time to change that nappy. c’mon, let’s get ya all ready,” he says picking up the little girl.

               she can’t help but beam as she turns to watch their baby girl, already able to sit up on her own and tell mama and dada that she loves them. a hand slips into bucky’s and marlene intertwines their fingers together, letting out a happy sigh.  “ i know, right? so SMART already– but she’s growing too fast. it’s only a matter of time before her magic starts to show. you’ve gotta promise me you’ll stay calm about that, by the way. ”

                  bucky had already been warned by marlene of the high chances of their baby being a wizard or a witch, so he had had time to try and wrap his mind around the idea. however, that doesn’t mean he isn’t worried about it — he knows only too well what can come out from having parts of you that you can’t fully understand. so when marley bring it up, he can’t help but give her hand a little squeeze. “i told ya, i won’t freak out on her -- i’ve already done that on YOU, remember?” he says, with a sheepish smile. “i’m just... concerned, ya know? are you sure she’s not gonna hurt herself? i mean, she’s still SO SMALL...”

11: my muse tells yours they’ve had a miscarriage.

                   she doesn’t want to come out of the bathroom. not when the stupid pregnancy test she’s holding refuses to draw the second line, the one that will confirm her that everything is still okay, that their baby is still alive and well. but time keeps on ticking, and soon five minutes have turned into half an hour and the stupid stick still shows only one line: negative. AGAIN.

                  to be fair, she should’ve seen it coming — she’d lost too much blood, her body had received way too much damage. and that was only what she was aware of; who knew what had happened to her body during cryo, or during the winter soldier program? probably nothing that would make pregnancy an easy thing. she’s BROKEN, and it’s high time she accepts that.

                  with her hand still holding firmly the pregnancy test, becky finally comes out of the bathroom. her gaze is fixed on the eyes of the person in front of her, the person whose baby she just killed, because apparently, like it or not, this is something she will never stop doing. no matter what, she will ALWAYS be a weapon, a KILLER.

                  “i’m sorry,” she lets out in a breath, extending the plastic stick. “i- i tried, but ——” taking a deep breath, she tries to keep her voice steady, calm, SOLDIER-LIKE. “i can’t. i’m broken.”

               “ shit, y’got me, ”  she laughs, humming with content once their lips meet again. with a long sigh, all the tension leaves her body, and she finds her arms wrapping up around his neck.  “ not too long though, ‘kay? we’ll get more alone time when she’s asleep. ”

             “fine, fine, ‘m on my way,” he accepts, but still wraps his arms carefully around marlene’s waist. “i just feel bad for interrumpin’ her -- look how concentrated she looks on chewin’ that block. i tell ya, she’s totally acin’ that puzzle.”

It kills me that there are moments when the Winter Soldier is doing stuff that he has the eyes of someone who DESPERATELY wants off the ride. I’m not sure how aware of anything he is internally, but there are moments his eyes look horrified, like something in there is aware and has no clue how to stop what’s happening. They’re too wide. Too startled. Like someone being forced to do something at gun point. He does it several times in this scene, and he does it when he catches the shield after shooting Fury.

This really makes me think of the thing that SebStan said about WS: that he isn’t empty, his mind is all over the place. It’s one thing I noticed on my rewatch, which was exactly how much he remembered in the chair scene, when he’s like “But I knew him.” He flashed back to the train, being pulled through the snow, the experimentation, the arm. He wasn’t robbed of his memories, he was robbed of their significance. And so, he has nothing to focus on except the mission.

               A GRIN SPREADS ACROSS HER LIPS,  and she takes his hands to pull him close to her.  “ i’m only as good as you are, ”  she blushes, pressing a gentle peck against his lips.  “ speaking of, it’s your turn to change her diaper before nap time. good luck getting her away from that block puzzle long enough to do that. ”

                       bucky accepts the peck gladly, but he frowns slightly once they pull apart. “i have a feelin’ you’ve been just sweet talkin’ me so i accept diaper duty,” he confesses, before breaking into a beam. “you’re good. but you’ll see, i got this; gonna get to it in just a sec, alright?” and then he just leans in a second time to press their lips together again.
