firstly, it depends on whether Mumbo'd seen Grian's farms or not -- judging by the episode, he hadn't; secondly, I don't remember when exactly -- but in the previous season(s) Mumbo already recieved some compliments about developing his building skills and being more creative and bold in his decisions. so it's unlikely that his behaviour is a response.

BUT.

imagine GRIAN seeing this as a response.

this is unlikely too, but just -- what if -- Grian sees a competition in this, as always?

or what if Grian assumes that it was his influence, this way or another, just as Mumbo influenced him enough for having a passion in building and modifying farms? what if Grian dies inside every time he sees Mumbo's base, thinking about what Mumbo's learned from him, what if he changes his way and intentionally passes the base just to look at his progress, at his next moves, what if he thinks about their souls being bounded and all that, and Mumbo... hasn't visited the Grian's side of the mountain yet?
