I'm pretty sure having ADHD makes my memory worse and by worse I mean that trying to remember visuals in my head is like an ai generated image. All the details are wrong and I'm not sure how to fix it and it's unreliable so I need to look at a source but I don't look at a source until it's too late. so if im drawing it looks like a dream of whatever the source is. My Nintendo switch controllers have awful controller drift as expected, so when I play deltarune and it starts drifting me I'm imagining it's kris taking over. Yeah they're running themself into the wall. And screwing over all the puzzles. And pushing themself into bullets. Making each chapter take three times as long. But that's just kris. I'm not even angry it does that anymore. Added skill level, I need to fight the character I play as to not mess up the game.

I love in undertale and deltarune how sexuality and gender are very fluid. Queer characters are natural in that world and I think it's really important representation. Like so many characters casually use they/them, even if it comes off they have a certain gender. Kind of the opposite of when people will assume and use he/him on anything they don't know, using it as a default (like with animals). There are no social constructs in relation to gender or sexuality there, you can just do whatever. Its the peak of "assume everyone is bi until proven otherwise", dont assume everything is straight/"the norm" without proof. Everyone is left ambiguous and these characters are the peak of queer joy. Heck yeah. Move me to the monster world. I'm gonna be kris and I will be getting the banana

Here's some things that come to mind

like in other medias theres a lot of attention drawn to representation, but in utdr its subtle and natural and incredible and flows well with the characters and story. It's inserted without using stereotypes or drawing extravagant attention to it like "look at me!! Look at all this representation!!! Look at all the good we are doing!!" Like it wants a reward. No, its just there. People complain about lgbtq in games but I believe it's more about the execution, as some lgbtq representation can really be inserted so badly. Like anything can. Because that's exactly how i feel about straight romances in media, the writing and character chemistry often isn't there but people eat it up because its considered so normalized and a pinnacle of mainstream media. But with Toby Fox relationships, its just good character writing. theres more confirmed/implied Igbtq i can think of than confirmed cishet characters and yet the games are so widely known by a diverse audience. like it doesn't even matter its lgbtq or "woke" as people say, because the game itself was already a masterpiece, many people know it no matter the background.

My point is that the characters are meant to feel like real people. Which it does! Every character has a unique charm or flaw that is just so very human. It's not put on a pedestal to fit social standards or what people wanna see. It removes every expectation from our society and just does whatever. But you feel real emotion, you feel real grief and love and anger while playing and interacting with every character. They have a life, they have a family, they have individual motives, they have quirks and habits and preferences. Identity. You feel like you could be them or know them personally. They have depth rather then in other medias that are more cishet/neurotypical where everyone is surface level with only one thought in their head, usually something superficial.

I saw a post recently saying that Toby Fox women aren't overly sexualized, and i think that goes into my idea. Real people aren't going to be sex appeal/eye candy the whole time you see them. I think Toby really shows the diversity of human personality and appearance through these characters. It's not flat, its very dynamic.

I know they're already monsters, but again they really don't have any social constructs for appearance. Its not like in other games where every character still fits the basic human attractiveness idea, with like the same 3 body types. No, every character you see is truly unique and their design fits their individual personality. They arent meant to fit how people look at all and yet you feel connected to them either way. Everything goes hand in hand.

Toby fox just does whatever he wants and whatever makes him happy and I think it really shows. Its not watered down through a corporation or a certain lense. Its meant to be out there and funny and zany. It's so over the top weird that anything people complain about being in it (strong women/lgbtq/ect) really doesn't matter because it doesnt fit into any pre-existing standard anyways. You don't notice it as being any different besides the fact the entire game is different. Deltarune and Undertale are just Deltarune and Undertale. They are what they are and don't need to be anything for anyone and yet it has found such a great community that loves it through and through.
