Still my pet theory!

Additional evidence:

Him telling Chrissy he had his hair buzzed in middle school! It is not a natural thing you would write. If they really wanted to just have a nice middle school convo (and why exactly?) it would have been more natural to have him say "my hair was a little shorter" . Or something about how his style was childish/preppy, Idk. Why buzzed?!?!?

10 was the only one not vecna'd. His limbs weren't twisted and he was not bloody. Why?

The theme with "there is no shame in running" and then spending 3 episodes just running away. Loved this in general, v. funny! Seems to fit nicely with him running back then.

LOOK AT LITTLE 10 in ep 7. Just standing there innocently. Seemingly the only lower number than 11 who was not mean/dangerous.

It seemed to be a nice contrast in the beginning of the season, how El is moping about never being able to fit in and Eddie was all "They all think I'm a freak, I'm gonna show them freaaaak!" It seemed like a (good) coping strategy.

Living with his uncle - that's an easy claim to make (I know the guy really existed but it's easy to claim someone is your uncle or nephew without much evidence) in the trailer park. (easier to just appear in a trailer park, few questions asked, than anywhere else)

Having to make money by drugs.

It all still fits, would be awesome and they still do look really alike! I'm starting to get really attached to this theory.

Like why would they make him so likable, just to kill him? And what's so damn special about Eddie? Also, Eddie meeting Eleven and being all "Eleven!" and everyone being all "Wha?" would be glorious. Also, also, why not?!

But WHY did Eddie, who's totally Ten, stiffle the conversation about "The girl with superpowers" so noticeably?

My first thought was something something ... he's so used to hiding his past, he tries to avoid conversations alluding to it. But really, no one had any reason to suspect him and he should be a little more curious.

What is if he is terrified of her? If he was running and hiding mostly from her, always afraid she'll find and finish him off too. There is no reason for him to necessarily know about One, right?? And even if he'd know One/Peter or whoever he was to him is evil, there is no reason he'd necessarily think El is innocent, right?

So this opens the door for an even more fun reunion, where he might have some reason to attack her out of fear, thereby showing his powers, claim"You don't know her like I do, she is crazy!!" and everyone is like WHATTHEFUCK?

And of course later they could still become friends and that'd be a super interesting relationship.

billy hargrove + eddie munson similar aesthetic. different paths. same end.

both like rock music/metal heads, and use music as a form of escapism. both have big permed hair. both style themselves in layers of denim and leather. both live in the poorer end of town/trailer park. both don't fit in with the norm (metalhead newbie vs d&d nerd). both have had awful childhoods/home lives. both have a necklace they wear throughout that means something to them. both have a strange opposing friendship with steve.

both end up being used as a pawn by the upside down (billy, as a vessel, turned from a town bully into a monster by the upside down, and eddie framed for the murders the upside down has caused).

both sacrificed themselves for the group.

eddie was innocent of the upside down murders in season 4. billy was guilty of being a bully but innocent of the upside down actions of season 3.

billy sacrificed himself out of pain. he had nothing for him in the real world. he had become a monster, and had hurt everyone around him, so he sacrificed himself as a way of attempting to atone. eddie sacrificed himself out of pain. he had nothing for him in the real world, as the town saw him as a monster. and he blamed himself for running, so he sacrificed himself as a way to prove that he didn't always run.

and their deaths both absolutely destroyed their younger 'sibling'; max never recovered after billy's death and dustin is struggling at the end of season four after eddie's.

S04E01: Chapter One “The Hellfire Club” S04E09: Chapter Nine “The Piggyback”

Even after Eddie’s death, his friendship with Dustin continues to be my favorite. Listen, it speaks volumes that Dustin figured out a way to give Eddie’s uncle some closure so he doesn’t spend the rest of his life looking for his nephew. It says so much that Dustin comforted him (and maybe himself to) by telling him that Eddie died a hero and reflecting on the kind of person that Eddie was and wishing that more people got to know him, to have the chance to be his friend the way that Dustin did, to have experienced the incredibly fun and bright and authentic person that Eddie was.

When Dustin says “They would’ve loved him. Even in the end, he never stopped being Eddie, despite everything,” it parallels so beautifully to when Eddie told him “Never change, Dustin Henderson, promise me,” and he really takes that to heart. They’re two of the most genuine people on the entire show with an incredibly compelling dynamic and they deserved more time together, but it’s amazing what they were able to do with what little they had.
