Top 5 GinTsu moments?

I don't believe I'm alone in saying this, but it's when he says to Tsukuyo in Lesson 493, "If it's what you want, I don't mind being yours and yours alone." It signifies that he sees her in a way that is not friendship, and the fact that Sorachi added those last two words signified authorial intent that Tsukuyo is someone Gintoki is interested in romantically, and not platonically. Even though a lot of fans argue "he was under the drug!" none of them ever explain fully why Sorachi felt the need to draw or write this line in the first place. Fact is, it wasn't necessary to the plot but Sorachi really went out of his way to draw mc-kun confessing to this woman even if he's more of a gag manga series guy - and in a world where Hinata confesses to Naruto and he ignores her confession until like, the very last chapter of the series - it's quite a remarkable that this line exists at all, tbh.

Gintoki telling her, "You have a beautiful face and a clean soul" at the end of Red Spider arc. He admires her inner and outer beauty and that's a wonderful thing to see in any ship dynamic. We know Tsukuyo is a beautiful woman, but Gintoki also has the capacity to appreciate her strength and fortitude.

"Get your stinking hands off this woman," Gintoki growling this to Jiraia (RS arc) after stabbing his hand with his bokuto is... hot, lol. To have him being that enraged at a master mistreating his student - I think there was some degree of him self-projecting on her during the whole situation, and consequently it made him very protective of Tsukuyo which is so... sexy, as a ship. This is a woman who protects the whole city of Yoshiwara even if it puts herself at risk, and for once in her life, she can depend on Gintoki to protect her and to be there for her??? GOD. At her lowest moment, being stuck three days in captivity by a narcissistic, twisted, evil father figure who was hell-bent on skinning Tsukuyo's skin and burning everything that she fought for, eventually to be proved that being able to put her faith in something else other than herself was redeemed? Man. Really powerful writing.

Tsukuyo saying, "And someday when that guy gets back, I wanna tell him that. Then I think he'll walk with everyone on tha same path to the future again..." in SSA arc. What a hell of a love interest where she is mature enough to trust that Gintoki is doing the right thing and setting aside her feelings for him for the Greater Good. She says this to the Gintama ladies, and there's a part where they look at her, contemplative, as if they're moved by the capacity of her love for him. Her words are the Serious Part that isn't warped by comedy in that chapter. She asks for nothing from Gintoki except to see him occasionally, and that's a selflessness that I like very much about her. Many people have expectations from Gintoki (paying the rent, paying their salaries, not being so crude, not drinking so much, not being a bum, trying to recruit him into terrorism) but she asks for nothing from him, and I think that's what love is really all about - accepting someone for who they are, and not for what they can do for you.

Tsukuyo saying, "Gintoki... you lost your master?" in Courtesan of a Nation arc. Her facial expression is horrified, as she also understands that burden all too well. And when Sasaki shoots a bullet into Gintoki and she reacts by killing the FUCK out of the Naraku to reach him because she thinks he's going to die... Peak...

whatever u do please stop and think for a moment about how gintoki always seemingly has the upperhand when it comes to teasing tsukki but one time tsukuyo just. stares at him quiet as can be, that gintoki panics and takes back his teasings before suddenly tsukuyo puts her hand on top of his head gently and oh so nicely pats and ruffles his hair with heart in her soft eyes while she offhandedly comments ‘i never realized how soft your hair is,’ and now gintoki is the one blushing and stuttering and looking away and goddamned is he whipped for this woman

will literally never shut up about gintoki and otose’s relationship

i’m doing a rewatch of the show and i’m on the part where tama comes back, and otose takes her in. gintoki’s all like ‘this is literally illegal you’ll get in trouble for this’ and just look:

“I’ll be fine. I’m used to looking after people with questionable pasts.” she looks so FOND saying that, all the while staring right at him

dude says that last part as if he didn’t right up and claimed his place as her personal guard dog all those years ago as a promise to her husband to protect her until the very end back when they first met. (not to mention this takes place a few episodes after the noble guard dog arc, eps 107-108, the parallelism is RIGHT THERE)

and then gintoki just. looks away, sweat trailing out of discomfort, maybe part guilt too, knowing full well he’s one the one she took in all those years ago when he had nothing

the way we all know gintoki always looks away, turns on his back whenever he’s being fully genuine and honest in serious situations, whether it’s because he’s being wise, or that he feels like a kid too shy about being true to his feelings, we’ll never know

and then after that, gintoki just stays quiet for a while, taking it in and avoiding her eyes

and then finally, she says my favourite part:

“That doesn’t matter. Robot or cat burglar, I think of them as my daughters. I want them to enjoy life.”

and she wasn’t talking about him specifically, but you just know she meant him too

before robot and cat burglar, before a pair of glasses and a yato kid, who was with otose? literally him. sakata gintoki fresh from the war, beaten to half his life, frail and sick and barely breathing, about to pass out in a snowy grave

in gintoki’s eyes, otose was the one who saved him by feeding him and housing him when he was an inch from death, his will and stubborness the only things left keeping him alive. hell, at that point he was letting the beatings come without fighting back at all without even a snark.

otose took in this injured, rude, broken kid who took her dead husband’s manju right to her face.

this damned kid, who was practically blending in with the snow at that point with his white hair and pale skin. a kid no one in the area knew, or cared for, if he died then and there in that graveyard from the cold, sickness, or from simply giving up and closing his eyes for the last time. because that’s what he was, a kid veteran from a lost war with no friends, no family, no sensei

all jokes aside about rent and ugly grannies and broke gin-san, i just. love the subtle care and genuineness of the dynamic between a caring old woman and a broken, lost, young man

we all know they would do anything and everything to protect each other.

and even if gintoki won’t ever say something sweet or express gratitude outloud to otose, well. action does speak louder than words

i’m out of frames to add, but after the last shot, you can see his entire body shake and break down at the mere fact that he can’t even reach out to her.

gintoki and otose’s whole bond is one of the most underrated gems in this show and i need ppl to see the vision thank u for coming to my ted talk

Thoughts on Sacchan

Sacchan is usually considered to be an annoying character. While I understand the reasons why someone might see her that way (perverted, simp, bitchy) I enjoy her character for precisely those reasons. Her obsession with Gintoki is the aspect that stands out the most about her, which is a good and a bad thing at the same time.

It’s good for all the funny situations that come out of it and I personally love how open she is about it. I also like that she breaks the mold of the pervert-obsessed character that’s often used with men. But it’s bad because her qualities as a character take a backseat, which is a shame since she has a lot to offer. 

It probably goes without saying, but she’s socially awkward. On one occasion (ep. 204) she even mentions she doesn’t know how to approach Gintoki normally. I find it very interesting that we see more of her fun and fanatical side, but before meeting Gintoki (and when she’s not with him) she’s more serious and calculating.

It can be inferred she fell in love with Gintoki because he was the first person who selflessly helped her, knowing that she was deceiving him, and offered his help in case she needed it in the future. That’s a lot considering she hails from a world where deception is paramount to her craft as an assassin.

Although she’d a few scenes before, it wasn’t until Shogun Assassination arc that she really shined, mainly because her character managed to break away from Gintoki’s and build her own reputation. Here we were able to see her past, her relationship with the other members of the Oniwabanshu and her abilities as a shinobi. It took quite a while, but it was great to see what she’d to offer and I was looking forward for more.

However, in the final arc Sacchan returned to her previous state, which affected the character and strengthened the idea that she’s just a fangirl. While I agree the stalking is a negative, I think part of the character’s idea was to represent obsessive fans, which was achieved. But she’s so much more than that and I wish we’d seen more of her.

plot: He never expected to be able to live life so freely. And getting to wake up beside the woman he’s stupidly fallen for is one of those things he’d never expected to deserve. But it happened, and he’ll make the best out of it.
