Buckle up, Creampuffs! This week one of our biggest groups yet continue Monster Month by covering the first season of the little webseries that could. Somehow we manage to balance out our squealing to actually say intelligent things about something we're all huge fans of. The New York Philharmonic just dropped a reminder that 10 years ago they presented a fantastic production of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd with brilliant Bryn Terfel, unforgettable Emma Thompson, and beloved Philip Quast. The opening number was stunning!

The 2014 Sweeney Todd concert is truly on another level. The cast wreaking havoc during the Ballad, crashing vases and FLIPPING over a PIANO. Audra McDonald being mother as the Beggar Woman. Christian Borle serving cunt as Pirelli. I love this production

might be a good day to rewatch this 2014 Sweeney Todd concert (with Bryn Terfel, Emma Thompson, Philip Quast, Audra McDonald - doesn't get much better than that!)

Swing your razors wide for our first episode of Monster Month where Sam, Callie, and I sink our teeth into the thrilling concert version of Sondheim's macabre masterpiece! Here we gush over the immensely talented cast, compare it to the current Broadway production starring Josh Groban, and discuss the types of productions we'd like to see in the future. Settle down with a human free meat pie, and sing along to the MULTITUDE of music clips I sneaked into this episode if you want! The following podcast contains swearing, as well as mentions of murder, predatory behavior, homelessness, mental illness, and cannibalism. 

Point of intersection found: This is a Degree 6. Audra McDonald and Emma Thompson were in the 2017 adaptation of Beauty and the Beast with Ewan McGregor, who was in the prequel trilogy and Obi-Wan Kenobi; and Josh Gad, who was in Rebels.

So idk if this is gonna be a long term thing, but I wanted to try something a bit new and review some audio dramas. I'm listening to a lotta them at work, so I thought I'd give it a go. First one up is:

Mina and Lucys Guide to Slaying Dracula

Basically what it says on the tin: two girls, Mina and Lucy, hunting down and slaying Dracula, and based (very loosely) on the novel by Bram Stoker. It's definitely a horror based Audio Drama, but it's very tame. This is aimed for a younger audience and it definitely leans more into the comedic side of the horror comedy genre. Not a knock on the series at all, however, as it holds up fairly well. The two main characters of Mina and Lucy are excellent and they have really good chemistry with one another, the story line is easy to follow but entertaining and all the the side characters are pretty cool.

My favorite bit is a side character named Principal Quincy, who is very determined to get over the nickname "Quinc-ipal". It's silly, it's goofy but damn it I love it.

It's also a nice and manageable length, of 4 and a half Hours, broken into 20 episodes. It's fairly easy to digest, as every episode is under 30 minutes.

I will say in conclusion, Mina and Lucys Guide to Slaying Dracula is a perfectly fine Audio Drama. You know exactly what you're getting from the title, the storyline is fun as you see the girls try and figure out how to take on Dracula. And it's fun to see their relationship play out, as well as with all the various side characters.

Well Shami, Callie, and I sure do, and we're going batty for it! Here we discuss the casting news, as well as the pilot episode and our speculations on the directions this self proclaimed "loose" adaptation of Dracula will take. The following podcast contains swearing, implications of sexual assault, mentions of violence, medical malpractice, racism, racist stereotypes, and death.

In this fair podcast where we lay our scene, Jasmine tries Try Guys for the first time! With Bex, River, and Shami as her guides, she discovers that Keith Habersberger might be the ultimate Juliet, that there are certain weapons that are capable of making people (or at least the audience) die of laughter, and that absurdity and tragedy need not be mutually exclusive.
