…[Grantaire] was, himself, moreover, composed of two elements, which were, to all appearance, incompatible. He was ironical and cordial. His indifference loved. His mind could get along without belief, but his heart could not get along without friendship.

As you rest your head on my shoulder, I felt the weight of your world And it was so heavy And it worries me. You must be so brave To carry that on your own.

“Grantaire, earthbound in doubt, loved to watch Enjolras soaring in the upper air of faith. He needed Enjolras. Without being fully aware of it, or seeking to account for it himself, he was charmed by that chaste, upright, inflexible and candid nature.”

Grantaire snorted with laughter at that. “So not at all then, since apparently I shall be spending the remainder of the evening on the top of your head.” He winked at Enjolras and started making plans to try and get him drunk.

Enjolras stopped walking and leaned against the wall, shaking his head and folding his arms. Of all the idiotic imbecilic and utterly stupid things…
“I thought you said you knew where this bar is! That is literally the only reason I allowed you to come with me!” he snapped at Grantaire, sending him his most fierce glare. “Christ! I should have known better than to trust you with this… You are utterly hopeless! I bet you were too drunk to pay attention to where you were going!” He shook his head again and let out a heavy sigh. “If we don’t find it in…five minutes, I’m going back home!”

And ah, my love remind me, what was it that I said? I can’t help but pull the earth around me to make my bed And ah, my love remind me, what was it that I did? Did I drink too much? Am I losing touch? Did I build a ship to wreck? (x)

Grantaire glanced at the bottle with a sad and crooked smile. “And so you intend to kill me with drink? You won’t be the first to try.” He gave her shoulder a little squeeze. “Thank you though, mon amie. Thank you for trying. It’s alright, I can get by. I will be alright.”
“It’s not that I think your cooking is bad! It’s just … Not that good.”
Eponine ran her hands down her run-down dress, an almost innocent pout gracing her lips. “My cooking is of the heavens, loved by the biggest Parisian crooks, is what you meant to say to me Monsieur.”

Grantaire smiled bitterly at the question, if Grantaire didn’t already know the man wasn’t a usual in their group, the question certainly proved it. “I’m here because I have to be. The only thing I value, the only thing I treasure, the only thing I believe in in this worthless pit of a world is here. If he goes I go. I don’t want to see tomorrow if he doesn’t.” He shrugged as if it was as obvious and necessary as eating or sleeping.
