Just in case y’all want reassurance that this is not an echo chamber, I watched season 4 for the first time with my mother. She loves the show but she’s a GA member and she only watches every season once. So she’s never read any analysis or looked up the show online. But one day, after watching episode 5 for the first time, we were talking about it and I said something like “It’s so obvious that Will is gay”. 

BUT SHE ANSWERED “Yeah and Mike is even gayer”. When I tell you my jaw dropped. I already knew because I got to byler tumblr a couple months before season 4 had dropped, but she’s never gone online and she still could tell. She’s a literature teacher so of course she has a great media understanding, but still, she reached the conclusion by watching once. She even said “Him not even writing I love to El makes it more obvious”. 

And then when we watched Mike’s monologue in vol 2 the whole time she was like “Ew he’s so annoying”. After finishing the last episode, I asked her if she still believed Mike was gay, and her answer was “Yeah he was lying to save her life it’s pretty obvious”. She also noticed the couples paired up in the last shot. 

So yeah, doesn’t sound like an echo chamber to me.

To add on to the whole "the writers didn't forget will's birthday" theory, here's a shot from the first few minutes of season 4 where on the right of the screen you can see a part of the newspaper talking about birthdays, even having in bold large text the words "your birthday".

Additional:

To back up my claim that this little detail is proof that they didn't forget will's birthday,

notice how the blacked out parts of the wordsearch mirror parts of each other from 4 different sides which parallels the 4 gates that opened across hawkins.

Also the word "watchmakers" at the top left linking to vecna's grandfather clock.

The people working on the show have also said that the small details do matter so y'know.

I love when stranger things reddit agrees with bylers without realizing it.

They agree with the love conquers all (Neverending story) theory AND they want callbacks season 5. 🤣

Also, the comment on the 3rd slide. LOL.

Comment: "And the best endings are set up in advance with little repetitive things like that. So when love overcomes hate in the finale, I hope there are callbacks to these moments to remind people that it was always this way."

Yeah, I hope they give them callbacks to show them that mike and will were set up from the beginning 💀

Hot take: the main st cast knows all about endgame byler. It’s called NDAs and being an actor. Their occupation is pretending. And yet nobody’s perfect, so yes, they have cracked a few times along the way. Still, I can’t help but notice how happy they get whenever they talk about the overall story and its ending, it’s like praise and appreciation, with this hint of defensiveness about audience expectations. Hmm wonder why…

“And there upon a rainbow is the answer to a never ending story”

this fits with matthew modine replying to a question about the end of s5 with a link to the song “all you need is love,” which, as I’ve mentioned, is in the magical mystery tour album AND there’s a magical mystery tour movie vhs in the video store in s4

And there’s a RAINBOW on this album cover- just like the song lyrics, in both examples, a RAINBOW is being tied to the ending of a story (“And there upon a rainbow is the answer to a never ending story” vs matthew modine linking a “all you need is love,” a song off of the magical mystery tour album which has a RAINBOW on it)

I stopped doubting byler when I realized they've been foreshadowed as the answer to the "never ending story" multiple times.

Also, the "love is the key to defeating vecna" theory is real as fuck.

I don't know how to explain it myself but, someone pointed out how dart (an upside down creature), wasn't "bad", it just doesn't know any better. It refused to attack because dustin showed it love..

I have all these thoughts in my head, but I can't write them out.

I'm also a mike gets vecna'd truther. He has alot of parallels to max.

And sometimes, the camera work is done in a way which makes it feel like hes being watched(he is), it's so creepy.

Byler-Coding Hunting 😅😅😅

After hearing Murray rant and mention this word 5x, we cut back to the curtain, and the lyric in the background at that exact moment says, ‘window’, with the window now back in frame, and the blue/yellow curtain accompanied by a rainbow above it.

Also, I should mention that this same episode (2x05: Dig Dug) has a few byler moments that fit pretty well with the dialogue here…

“It's just too strong. Too strong.”

“Perfect.”

“Precisely— Your story, we moderate it. Just like this drink here. We make it more tolerable.”
