Zodiac Signs of Notable 48G Members

I’ve listed the four most noteworthy from each sign, but of course there are many, many other examples for each.

Observations:

There are a LOT of Aries in this group. It makes a lot of sense—Aries love attention and being in the spotlight, so becoming entertainers is a natural route for them. Within the large group of Aries we find some members who have reached pretty legendary status. They are very ambitious and here to make a name for themselves.

Taurus and Gemini: It was absurdly difficult to find members for these two signs. Why might that be? Taurus tends to be complacent and set in her ways, so she may lack the motivation to audition for a group as intensive as AKB48. They tend to be very committed very quickly though, so once they have mustered up the motivation to join the group, they’ll be around a while.

Gemini is a bit trickier. Gifted with great charisma, they are even more attention-seeking than even Aries. So wouldn’t a stage like AKB48 be perfect with them? Not necessarily. Gemini hates to share the spotlight with anyone, so she may prefer to pursue a solo path so the attention isn’t divided. The few Gemini who do join may be graduation risks, because when they grow bored of something or feel they aren’t getting their due share of the spotlight, they won’t hesitate to move on.

Cancer is the sign to be for a 48Group girl. Just look at those names. Cancer has this mysterious aura that seems to draw people to them without their intent. People feel they can relate to Cancer, that they can project themselves onto her, and so Cancer makes a phenomenal ace—she is a blank slate who can be whatever the viewer wants her to be. They also come across as very genuine and real, “the girl next door” type of image.

Leo is a phenomenal leader, brave, passionate, and noble. They can sometimes come across as arrogant and need to tone down their strong reactions at times. They believe in honesty and doing the right thing—both Sayaka and Murashige gave their due penance for their respective scandals; a Leo would never let her own crimes go unpunished. Really, Sayaka is basically the textbook Leo.

Virgo is a hard one for me, because the it’s hard to tell whether the Virgos in the group exhibit the meticulous behavior the sign is known for, since we don’t tend to see that part of their lives. I will say that a keyword here is “calculating.” Milky is a strong example. She can read a fan like no one else and turn their likes and preferences to her advantage. Meetan took a similar tactic to make an impression from the back row in her time. Haruppi might be another example, building up a huge outpouring of sympathy based around her storyline of being knocked from the center—not to say that Haruppi orchestrated all of that, but a Virgo will always find a way to turn a disadvantage to an advantage. Virgo is always controlling the strings in her life.

Libra is also difficult to find a commonality. What strikes me most about these names is that they all seem to be members at the precipice of being at the top. Yuko is a legend, yes, but her legacy will always be overshadowed by Acchan’s. Ryoha and Mirurun are about as high up as they can go but won’t be able to topple the group centers standing in their way. Akicha was a media senbatsu member but it seems she will never reach that level again. The only thing that seems Libra about these girls is the Libra’s tendency for self-sacrifice. She will step out of the spotlight if she knows there is someone better who can represent the group and benefit it more (usually an Aries or a Cancer who is much more spotlight-oriented). However, they won’t just roll over and let their opportunity be taken from them without a fight—they hate injustice, and you could see the frustration on Akicha’s face each year she dropped lower in the rankings. But last year she seemed to have reached an equilibrium, and she seemed to be much more accepting of the fact that the group needed her in a different role now.

Scorpio is a born variety queen. Her sharp tongue and wit make punchlines come incredibly easy to her, especially the ones born closer to Libra who can really read the crowd’s atmosphere to nail the content and timing of her gags. They also tend to be very protective of their loved ones and often end up in a “den mother” role (Sasshi, Miichan).

Sagittarius has something of a mysterious quality about her. They are also very intellectual and like to visit new places and embark on new adventures (Yuihan’s kennin in NMB comes to mind as a prime example; I am unsure if Churi’s was as successful). They need new challenges or they will stagnate, which makes Yuihan’s appointment to soukantoku a blessing—it seemed she was spinning her wheels for a while there. I can also see Tomu getting aggravated if she isn’t given more chances to prove herself. A kennin appointment might not be a bad idea.

Capricorn wants to succeed by any means necessary, and she may find herself carving out a new path entirely to get there. Kaotan was frustrated at her generation-mates all getting promoted before her, so she carved out her own niche and turned kenkyuusei into her own platform for success. Tani’s move to a new group brought a much needed fresh face to SKE and earned her a spot at the front of their senbatsu. Meru is a Capricorn who is at risk. Ousted from her center position and left as the only Tentoumu Chu member and the only of HKT’s top 4 without a kennin position, Meru’s going to need to set a clear goal for herself and plan out how she’s going to get there if she doesn’t want to become engulfed in resentment.

Aquarius quickly turns strangers into friends, so it’s not a surprise that three of the listed members have quickly adapted to transfers to new groups and been able to take great advantage of the move. They are great networkers and will have opportunites wherever they end up. These idols seem to have “baka” characters, but the truth is Aquarius is absorbed in self-reflection most of the time which may come across as “absent-minded” to others. They aren’t stupid at all though, they’re just occupied on another wavelength.

Pisces are incredibly dedicated people, and they are in it for the long haul. They will be the members who don’t graduate until 26, 27 years old. They are very idealistic and tend to have grand fantasies of what they want from life. This makes them great aces, but not as strong leaders, as they don’t tend to be very grounded in reality. They can also often become wracked with anxiety when their dreams go awry.

Huhmmm, I really want to see Kami 8 again on the same stage, especially when Yuko's graduation concert is approaching. Maybe Kami 8 will be on the same stage that day. Of course, we will have Nyan, Yukirin, Takamina, and Mayuyu for sure already. But will Acchan, Mariko sama, Tomochin return as well? Yuko is very close to Mariko sama and Tomochin. Acchan was the ace of AKB and rival of Yuko. So I think there is a possibility that Acchan, Mariko sama and Tomochin would appear to send Yuko off.

And how about 2nd generation? Will they also come to send Yuko off as well? 2nd gen is always known for their bond. So there is no surprise if Sayaka, Chiyuu, Natsumi, Meetan, Noro, Sae, etc appear right?

Yes, right before a big shuffle. This is such a nice send-off for Yuko. Not only this is the most iconic song for AKB48, this also marks the first time Oshima Yuko stands at the center position. I'm so happy right now.
