this is an extremely small moment in the show but I love how the retro space aesthetics of star wars are incorporated into the narrative. like these big clunky consoles are not just part of the set design, the technical limitations of these machines means that the people operating them don’t have access to information instantaneously, and moreover, the act of accessing information from these large imperial databases is placed in a broader context of imperial aggression. over-patrolling routes where they think they’ll catch rebels means that lots of ships are doing this at the same time, which means a huge increase in database queries, which means there’s a strain on their systems. like this show keeps tethering the might of the empire to the material components that make it up. and these points of weakness paradoxically make the empire feel that much more terrifying. you can see it straining against its constraints every time it tries to extend itself
