On Top of the World
On Top of the World
Usually blatant self promoting plugs kill me!  But I’m so happy about this one I can’t help myself.  I was nominated as one of the Houston Agent Magazines Who’s Who 2018.  The whole experience was great and I am looking forward to hob-nobbing with other professionals in the industry at the launch mixer.  So here’s a bit of self promoting madness for the day.

A Miracle with a Vision?
A Miracle with a Vision?
We are a week in to the New Year and I must say so far so good!  I love how at this time of year like no other you can tap into your resources and feel truly as if you can begin again fresh and new as if the last year hadn’t happened.  This last one was really starting to wear on me and to say bringing me down is an understatement.
In November I started writing out my plan and goals for 2017.  Ok…

Why the Title Of Mom is for No Other
Why the Title Of Mom is for No Other
I know this may get some backlash and I apologize to those families who try so hard to have families of their own but aren’t able to. I feel for those special circumstances truly I do but for me personally motherhood has come with many challenges and obstacles as it does with most moms and to have that title bestowed upon them is an honor, a gift we earned and carry a great deal of pressure to be…

I know who doesn’t love this current oldie but goodie thanks to the Gaines duo. Don’t you just love them? I could eat them up figuratively of course, this couple is so cute and have Texas roots which makes me heart them even more! I wonder if they need a wheeling dealing I heart mommie realtor near Houston to help with projects? Probably not, so I’ll take inspiration from them and use it my home to enjoy!
Obscene Ugly Hole!!
If you’ve read some of my first posts you know I had some odd holes that needed camouflaging. The worst one was in the heart of my dining room, such an eyesore!
Another bad job at the hands of God knows who?
Originally I thought wainscoting would do the trick, but then I found a fun wall created with fence boards found here at the Fox Hollow Cottage and yet another created with plywood found here from Picklee. I know you’re thinking that’s a floor, but that’s where my inspiration came from an inexpensive alternative to the fence planks. See you just never know where you might find your own little inspiration. Of course if you actually search plywood wall you will find dozen upon dozens of posts, not sure how I missed all those. Even still I’m still imagining my wall with planks vertical planks wainscoting reminiscent pre-fixer-upper style. The style I had always imagined in a nursery or elegant dining room growing up.
So now I priced it out and had a plan so off to Lowe’s me and my assistants went. It wasn’t until now as I’m standing in the aisle waiting that I met one of the sons from Lee Bass & Sons Construction, Jacob Bass, that my plans for my wall began to change. As we waited for the Lowe’s associates to finish up with another customer he inquired about my project and what I was getting, immediately he said “Oh like Shiplap”…and for me the tiny nondescript voice of Gru from Despicable Me…”LIGHTBULB” began chiming in my head…Yes Yes Yes this will be perfect I love that look so much more and it will take less sheets than the way I was wanting to do. Hello this is a no brainer!
I bought 8 sheets of birch plywood and  had the sheets cut into 8″ strips. I later cut into smaller pieces to fit square on the wall, like so.
I left Lowe’s on cloud nine and a new revamped plan, and promptly sent Mr. Bass a Thank You card when I got home!  And I have kept him up to date on my progress thus far, I truly appreciate the feedback he has given this DYIer.
This project did have a couple other twists in turns as many of my projects do from beginning to end. As you can see I started off with one intent and ended up with something quite different. Another glorious idea was to bring in my new favorite neutral color of gray to the shiplap wall, the first color of gray I chose was a “Greige” from Sherwin Williams I thought it would match perfectly with my couches.
It DIDN’T…
Even though I had a cute helper instead it looked more like cinder blocks and what I can only imagine a jail cell must feel like, it stayed for about a week until I repainted with a lighter hue of gray, again from Sherwin Williams but still not right.
So again I took a cue from my new friend and chose a glorious shade of white and I changed from Sherwin Williams to Valspar paint, both of which I adore! Valspar won me over I don’t believe I’ll ever look at another paint chip again unless I can get it in that brand. I honestly would’ve only used one coat over the gray and it covered without primer but for safe measure we doubled up anyhow.
I added trim and a small shelf but am planning a bigger shelf in the future. So here are some images of the final masterpiece I now call my dining room.
