How did I not hear about France banning hijabs? What’s going on?

long story short, there’s legislation in the process of being passed that would

ban girls under 18 from wearing any form of religious head covering in public, and although it’s obviously aimed at muslim women, it would also affect other faith groups that practice similar forms of modest dress

ban islamic swimwear in schools and public (there is already a modest swimwear ban in place at public beaches, this just extends it)

ban mothers wearing hijab from entering schools or participating in school field trips or extra curriculars

ban the slaughter of halal poultry - the cheapest and most easily accessible form of meat protein for the muslim community

extend school hijab bans to universities

prevent muslim women from choosing healthcare providers based on gender (which many muslim women prefer to do, since many exams require removal of clothing, etc)

ban muslim parents from homeschooling

force halal markets to sell pork and alcohol or face closure

ban foreign flags at weddings

Facebook PSA

Hey all, a little Social Media PSA if you have the Facebook App on your phone. 

With the last update, Facebook began tracking something called ‘off-Facebook Activity’ which keeps up with all apps and browsing you do off of Facebook and collects that information with the purpose of targeting ads… which means they’re selling it to ad agencies. This includes access to any banking apps on your phone and your spending habits. 

 Not only is this a major breech of privacy that Facebook didn’t have to tell us about when they updated the app, it’s, of course, automatically turned on. 

To turn it off, go into your Facebook app, pull up the menu from the main screen [the button with the three horizontal lines] scroll down to security and privacy, find ‘Off-Facebook Activity’ and hit the button that lets you manage your history to see all the apps it’s been collecting from. From there, you can clear the information it’s already collected, and there will be a button regarding ‘Future activity’ where you can turn the ‘feature’ off, at which point Facebook with give you an ‘ARE YOU SURE YOU DON’T WANT US COLLECTING YOUR INFORMATION TO SELL YOU THINGS???’ screen. Yes, yes you are sure. Because this is disgusting.

My mom often corrects me and my sister when we call each other dude, which really shouldn’t matter, but she’s making a big deal out of it anyways. And as someone who often doesn’t conform to what the defined box of what a girl is, it kinda hurts to be shoved back into place by one of the people who is supposed to accept me. So she told me to construct a survey and here’s part of it. Reblog if you’ve used dude (or other things like bro or man)as a non gender specific term before.

Hey folks!  I know everyone is excited about this new show with Harley Quinn and Ivy but…

Well, its only the second episode and the entire thing was incredibly antisemitic.  Yeah.  If you didn’t realize it, let me point out why.

First of all, we find out Penguin is Jewish.  Lets see, Jewish stereotypes check?  Huge, long nose?  Yep.  Rich and corrupt?  Yep.

His Jewish wife?  Fat and ugly of course!  And she has a Jersey accent- you know, because all Jews are from Jersey right?

His Jewish son?  Incredibly wimpy, has never touched a woman (why Harley points this out, I don’t really care to know.), and wanted an army base with explosions and screams for a present because he needs to prove he has balls.

And then THIS:

What are the party favors at the Cobblepot barmitzvah?  Why, bags of money of course!!  Because RICH JEWS HurRhRHrururr.

This shit?  Its not okay.  And people aren’t even noticing.  Because antisemitism is still such a hugely ingrained thing in our society.  In fact:

This comment pretty much proves that making fun of Jews means ‘you have balls’.  So yeah, antisemitism is basically something praise worthy in a cartoon!

Welp.  Here I am again.  Its extremely depressing to have to do this a second time, but it needs to be said.

So.  I recently made that one post about the new Harley Quinn show and how the second episode was antisemitic.  Turns out, it barely holds a candle to episode SIX.

There are two Jewish characters in the this episode:  Sy Borgman and Golda.

First of all, yes, Sy Borgman has always been Jewish- that’s not a problem.

What IS a problem is that now he is a super scummy New Jersey landlord. That’s new for this show.

So what are Sy and Golda like?  …You guessed it.  More harmful Jewish stereotypes!

They find Harley and crew comatose, mistake them for dead, and try to figure out what to do with the bodies.  They are shown to be TOO CHEAP to use proper cleaning services or employ anyone to do this.  And that’s when Golda hits us with a line I had to listen to twice to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating.

“A little Jewish Lightning never hurt anyone.”  What is she referring to?  Burning the building down and taking the insurance.  Most people might not know this but YES that phrase is a huge slur.  If you don’t believe me, you are free to google ‘Jewish lightning’ and see what comes up. 

‘What’s Jewish lightning?’ asks one of the characters, to which another responds, 'Perhaps Black Lightning’s Israeli cousin.’

……..Because all Jews are Israeli right?  Because all Israelis are Jews right? This kind of bullshit is what perpetuates the Jewish people as having ‘dual loyalties’ - meaning that the country they live in cannot trust them to be 100% loyal because every Jew is also automatically invested in Israel.

So after this lovely exchange, they decide to just burn the bodies because its the cheapest option….

Let me tell you something.  Jewish faith is against cremation.  Not to mention the fact cremation is uncomfortably close to the way Jews were killed in the Holocaust and burned in the ovens.  

So it makes total sense that these two Jews would dance around a pizza oven full of burning bodies singing about cremation.  Right……?

Another note from their conversation- when Sy comes up with the idea to burn them, Golda remarks, ‘There’s the Sy who armed Bin Laden in the 80s.’

Yes, this refers to his spy past but, since he is Jewish?  Ties that shit back to us too.  So thank you for that?  Pretty sure we have enough garbage we get blamed for.

The last thing that really disturbed me, is a twitter convo about this episode between two of the creators.

Adam Hughes here is recalling a ‘joke’ told by Cully Hamner.  I know for a fact that Adam Hughes is not Jewish.  I could find nothing at all suggesting that Cully Hamner was Jewish either.

Therefore making that kind of joke? EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE. 

And honestly, even if they were Jewish-  putting this kind of self depreciating stuff out there only strengthens shitty stereotypes.

This show is straight up antisemitic and unapologetic about it.
