Viv’s smile brightens, as he said yes. Though there was a hint of impish intent there. It wouldn’t be anything dangerous. No, she believed that it would actually do him a little bit of good.  His normal yellowish-white aura was starting to look a little distorted near the edges. Was he really worried about Toothless or perhaps was there something else bothering him? Regardless, Venus was determined to help.

Nestling into his hug she sighed happily. “Yes! You are stuck with me forever now as my husband.”  the peals of her laughter echoing around them as Icarus lifted Viv off the ground twirling her around before she felt feet on solid ground. “ I’m kidding, you’ll find out after our little expedition.” giving him a wink as she pulled away from him, waving a little finger at Toothless who sat contentedly on top of Icarus head.

The pair of them made such an adorable duo she could help but melt a little in their presence. Reaching into her basket now, she pulled out a necklace and placed it around his neck - thankful that he hunched over a little so she could do so. Holding the stone in her hand she whispered, ��� Water, our blood. Air, our breath, earth; our body and fire our spirit. Protect, and guide.” sighing happily when she looked up at him. “ You’re ready now. Let’s go!” 

icarus was shocked momentarily at her words husband? he knew he wanted to be someone’s husband one day, but this was a little too soon for him. a bubbling laugh escaped his lips as the woman uttered that she was only joking. “ alright, now i’m excited not only for the adventure but also what this condition is ! “ he believed that she only wanted the best for him, and doubted she would be capable of malicious intent. after all she was constantly making guarding crystals to keep those around her safe. how could a person like that wish harm on anyone? 

lowering himself slightly he let her place the necklace around his neck. another she had given him in the past was already hanging low under his armor. he never took it off, fearing not only to disappoint venus but also appreciating the gift. “ yay ! “ he exclaimed. fingers tapping before him, he opened his inventory. taking out a transportation crystal for himself and one for the other woman. 

opening his hand he offered the crystal to her on the palm of his hand. icarus would not make her waste one of her own for a mission he had roped her into. “ what do you think the lizards look like? will they be like toothless? “ toothless was pitch black from nose to tail, only the light hues stood out on him. he was excited to see the way the others looked. then, he activated the crystal projecting him to the location agreed upon. once emerging on floor 61 the young man could not believe his eyes. 

his jaw had dropped, and he feared it would be permanent for he could not bring himself to shut his mouth. admiring the splendor that surrounded them. “ wow... “ he muttered. toothless perched on his shoulder, “ it’s so beautiful... “

Solstice was doing some much needed catching up with info brokers and shopping while business were still bustling and active. Players from every walk of life prior to Velia were selling their wares and offering up their skills and services for pay but all she was interested in that moment was finding her favorite tailor. She’d recently acquired some rare cloth drops and was eager to have them made into armor.

While passing through the streets she heard someone yelling about stuff they were selling from floor 61. Solstice was hoping to pass right by them when she heard another voice, this one more familiar. She stopped in time to look over and see Icarus asking one the interested buyers about floor 61. Sol shamelessly interrupted, stepping between them and letting the other continue shopping as she gave Icarus a look. “Uh- there is no way you’re thinking of exploring Floor 61, is there, Icarus? Because no, it’s absolutely not safe.”

" i mean... i was... but... uh, i guess i can just not? “ his expression immediately dropped from a wide smile to nothing more than a frown. he had been rather excited to explore the floor and introduce little toothless to his wild brethren. with his childish demeanor it was easily forgotten that icarus was in fact a high level mystic. regardless, he appreciated those whom took it upon themselves to take care of him and guard him from unnecessary harm. 

it only took few moments for a corner of his lips to raise ever so slightly in a faint smile. he didn’t want solstice to feel bad-- he never wanted people to feel bad for him. “ out of curiosity, what makes the floor so unsafe? i have only heard rumors about a rapid evolution of bugs. it doesn’t seem so terrible. “ he paused, “ unless there is some sort of high level creature or plant that one should beware of? “

          originally, noir thought that the other player was speaking to HER. little did she know that he was really conversing with his other, much SMALLER companion. it took her a few moments to realize when he was, in fact, directing his question at her. noir cleared her throat, accompanied by a shrug of her shoulders. “ idunno. i haven’t been there since i smelled that plant. ” if it was an excuse to not get eaten alive by bugs, noir was definitely going to USE IT.

his smile only grew at her words, call it selective hearing. “ so you have been there? “ dark hues grew wider as he now fully turned to the other. “ will you please tell me everything you remember about the floor? i would love to hear what you saw there ! “ perhaps he was a little too excited to hear about another floor, but having been stuck in this game for so many years he felt it was interesting to see what would come next. beyond you know, getting out of here. that remained his first priority.

“Oh you charmer, you know just what to say to make a girl feel all warm and gooey inside.” smiling brightly as she lifted up on her tiptoes to pinch his flushed cheeks. He was so tall, granted, almost everyone in Velia was taller than Venus. She was either surrounded by tall giants or amazonian huntresses ( an exaggeration but she felt strongly about it.) Venus was now in the habit of giving her tall friends cute little nicknames.  An effort to feel less inferior when it came to their height difference - Icarus wasn’t exempt.  “ Well, while I applaud the fact that you want to do right by your little bean here. I’d rather you didn’t risk your own safety. Right, Toothless?”

The lizard looked at her and blinked.

“See, Toothie agrees with me.” 

For all she knew, the rumors that had started about the level could be just that. Rumors, harmless and misconstrued gossip but one could never be too sure. With a smile, she placed a hand on Icarus forearm. “It sounds very lovely and I’ll admit… I’ve wanted to go myself. but from what I’ve heard nature isn’t the problem.” the metamorphosis that was happening with the creatures on the floor was for a reason. Something that had nothing to do with the ‘ natural’ way of things. Venus believed it might be because of the next boss fight but of course, she couldn’t be sure… none of them could. Though she loved that Iccy was so hopeful, and it shined through as he looked down at her and invited her along on his quest to let Toothless meet his lizard brethren.

“How can I say no when you’re looking at me like that.” laughing brightly, “ I’ll go with you on one condition. But… you have to agree to the condition before I tell you.”  

nothing seemed to help the redness which hadn’t disappeared from his face, most of all not the fact that she pinched his cheek. he was a grown man ! alright, perhaps he was still rather childish... alright, a little very childish. regardless, his ID said otherwise. regardless, he found no reason to complain. venus only ever meant the best-- and he cared for her deeply. and when she put things like that, it was difficult to say no to her. 

hope was almost lost, until venus had uttered her next words. she would come with him under one condition. whatever the condition was, he would agree to it. he always agreed. even when there was a tiny voice in the back of his head telling him no. firstly, because he simply could not bare to disappoint people. secondly, because he wanted to make people happy. thirdly, he never cared for himself before so why start now? 

“ yes of course ! anything. what is it? “ 

eyes gleaming, the young man wrapped his arms around the woman, pulling her into a tight hug. so excited that they would be going on this little expidition that he forgot there was a condition attached to that. overly joyful, the young man lifted her off the ground, legs dangling where feet once stood attached to the floor below. toothless had scuttled up his arm , neck and was now perched atop his head. she must have felt like the queen of the world, being able to see far and wide from her position.

“ Did you forget my name Chéri.” smiling brightly as she turned to face Icarus now. Giggling she wrapped a free arm around his neck as Viv hugged him tightly. readjusting her basket as they pulled away.  It had been a long while since she has seen the unity mystic. Today she was out, dropping off the last of the orders she had finished earlier. Always happy to see a friendly face. Crouching a little, Venus gently cooed at Toothless, a delicate finger gently petting along with the creatures head down it’s back. “ Is Iccy thinking of taking you to such a precarious floor? He is a silly little thing, isn’t he? Yes, he is.” she cooed looking up at Icuras now,  “ I haven’t been myself but I’ve heard things. About the stench that hangs in the air now, and the changes happening to the wildlife.” shaking her head, smiling down at Toothless as she stood up straight. 

“You’re not actually thinking of venturing to 61 on your own? Venus knew he could take care of himself if he were hurt but… it was dangerous for anyone to go to a new floor without some kind of backup. “ Please tell me you aren’t going to be that foolish?”

" of course not, how could i ever forget your name ? “ a soft chuckle escaped his lips as he leaned into her touch, head resting somewhat crookedly upon her shoulder. “ venus, you are one of a kind. “ once he was relieved of being pulled down into a half embrace the young man rose his hand higher so venus was closer to toothless. crimson red flushed through his cheeks, even turning the tips of his ears into a flaming mess. at this point he should have been used to people calling him cute little nicknames, regardless he hasn’t. making him rather flustered. “ i just... you know... i feel like i am depriving toothless of quality time with his own kind. i just want him to be happy, you know? “ 

he didn’t really think this whole ordeal through, he never really does when his heart spoke louder than his mind. usually, icarus was a methodical person -- never doing things that are rash. unless, of course, when it comes to beings he cared about. “ i don’t know, i just... it sounds so lovely, you know? it can’t be too bad, can it? i mean as long as you are respectful of nature it won’t harm you, right? “ or at least that was what he thought. idealistic as ever. “ you can come with me ! “ the words shot out of his mouth. shortly after, he hurridly added, “ if you want of course... “

“ did you hear that, toothless? “ icarus inched the corners of his lips higher into a gleaming smile, “ they have lizards, wild lizards ! “ he was indeed speaking of floor 61 to his pet lizard whom was seated in the palm of his hand glancing up at him with large glazed over eyes. it did not take long after for him to remember of the warnings he had heard of the floor, surely whatever was happening could not be dangerous to humans... but he should better make sure. “ uhh... sooo.... is floor 61 safe to explore? “ he asked the first person he made eye contact with.

°✧｡ [PARK HYUNGSIK, CIS MALE, HE/HIM] IT’S BEEN TWO YEARS SINCE ICARUS JOINED VELIA FROM BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA. APPARENTLY THEIR NAME IS OH JAEWON AND THEY’RE A MYSTIC. THEY HAVE BEEN FIGHTING AS A UNITY MEMBER FOR A WHILE NOW. DIDN’T PEOPLE SAY THEY WERE NOT A BETA TESTER? I HEARD THEY TURNED TWENTY-FOUR THIS YEAR. LET’S HOPE THEY MAKE IT OUT ALIVE.

REAL LIFE.

jaewon was the perfect example of a middle child. his older sister was the trouble maker, his younger sister was the goody goody and he, well, there was absolutely nothing special about him. he just sort of floated somewhere in the middle, doing well, but not well enough, but also never slacking off. his parents had nothing to complain about when it came to jaewon and to him it sometimes felt like they found nothing to praise either.

life at home was good, his father owned a little cafe in busan, whilst his mother worked as an accountant. money was no struggle, they lived comfortably in their little house. they were the type of family to play card games together on sunday nights. thinking back to this blissful time often made his heart ache, for so much of the innocence of his childhood had been lost.

TW: CAR ACCIDENT, DEATH MENTION. when jaewon was 13 years old the family had decided to take a weekend trip away from the city to where his aunt lived. however, they never made it there. jae had fallen asleep in the car, and so he never quite knew what happened until it was too late. a car went hurling out of it’s lane and hit them directly. his father whom had been driving had made one last attempt to save the family by changing the direction of the car. but it was too late, they ran off the road. first, it was screams and then there was nothing but jae’s heavy breathing and his mother’s wincing as she did her best to get to him.

once they reached the hospital, she had already passed away along with his father and siblings. he blamed himself for having fallen asleep, he blamed himself for not having seen what caused his family’s death. and he hated himself for it. people kept telling him that it was better that way, then he could remember them for the life they had led before the accident rather than their last panicked moments. but these words of comfort never did comfort him, for their battered corpses followed him into his dreams.

he never slept well after that night. he’d wake up bathing in sweat every night, taking long midnight walks instead of attempting to fall back asleep just yet.

his uncle who also lived in busan took him in. at first he had been reluctant as he believed that he was no family man, but then caved as his aunt yelled at his uncle saying they couldn’t take away all that was familiar to jaewon and move him away from busan. and so he continued to work hard, suddenly missing being the child no one spoke about. instead he became that ORPHANED ONE that everyone seemed to know about. it was a heavy weight to bare, but he did his best to smile through it.

he did his best to live a life in a way that would make his parents PROUD. jae finished school and began to work as a waiter in a restaurant his mother used to always buy sunday dinners from. the income was not much, but it was enough to afford to move out from his uncle and into a little apartment of his own.

and then velia came out.

IN GAME.

jaewon logged into velia with the username icarus. he chose to be a mystic. he thought it would be awesome to play together with other people and have their back within the game (perhaps that was his guilt talking again). when he realized logging out was not an option, he began to panic. he didn’t want the rest of his life to be in this game.

then people began to die, and it was like he was losing his family all over again. for in the first few months he had made a couple of friends. they attempted to attack one of the monsters in the world when it became clear that they were not winning the battle, the two friends he made had already pixelated away and a stranger stepped in and saved him. he hadn’t forgotten the strangers kindness, and once more guilt plagued him. he began to feel like people just kept dying around him. like he was the cause, and not even him being a mystic could save them.

so, he did his best to level up. he did his best to become useful in the game. and ultimately chose to join unity. he wanted everyone to be able to survive together, he wanted everyone to come out of this happy to reunite with their families. and soon became a healer for the guild.

along the way he got a pet lizard called toothless, whom he treasures dearly. and the best part SHE COULD BE REVIVED. meaning that this being would not leave him, toothless couldn’t die forever, she couldn’t just pixelate away and that gave him comfort.

SIDENOTE: he doesn’t speak about his life outside of the game, people who don’t know him outside of the game wouldn’t know about his life !!! unless we plotted that he shared that bUT THats a high level of trust.

hela was tired of the hospital, she didn’t want to go back but at the end of the day, she knew it was needed. she was sure that the same four colourless walls were going to drive her insane. she sighed a little, nodding along to what he said. “i know but i had to go to the fundraiser, for minnie.” she mentioned, she was pushing herself too far this early on into recovery. it was a mere miracle that she was able to stand, let alone walk. “i promised the mystics at the hospital that i would be careful and that i would return once the event is over. i was careful so i don’t understand how it’s hurting so much.” she mentioned, furrowing her brows together as she dipped her gaze to examine the area. taking the potion from him, she happily obliged in drinking it even if they didn’t taste all that great. 

minnie, of course. icarus understood that very thought process -- who wouldn’t do anything that they could for minnie? she was wonderful. and yet, it pained him that the other had pushed herself so much simply to attend the fundraiser. ‘ i think i’ll be able to heal the most of it, but you’re going to have to rest after. promise me that. ‘ the young man shifted his weight, staff in hand he waved it from side to side, enacting his most powerful healing spell. ‘ and when you can, return to the hospital, or message me for a check up. i’ll be happy to help. ‘ he waved his staff once more as soon as the cool down period had been over. eyes carefully trained upon the wound as he watched the depth slowly disappear, as it slowly became a shallower cut. he had to pause once more, as he watched his mana slowly decrease.

starlight bit her lower lip – harshly. this was not a conversation that she wanted to have, today or any day. back home if conversations grew too serious, she would just reflect it – tell a joke, move it away from that. here? she just shuts down and that’s something she knows icarus won’t her do. instead, star drew her knees close to her chest and her gaze moves from the sky to him, resting her cheek on top of her knees. she let out a soft shy before just spilling it, “ noir knows what she did. luna – is luna. she’s always going to hate me. i still hate vida, nothing change about that – how did you even know something happened with vida? ” then there was radish. all the others, she could handle but he was a different story. “ i don’t know where to begin with radish. can’t we just talk about something else? anything else? ”

he had seen this before, excuses nothing but excuses left her lips. icarus cared deeply for starlight, she was like his sister -- the family he had chosen within velia. and it crushed him to see her in so much pain, which partially happened to be self inflicted. ‘ i have my ways... ‘ a small joke, however, jokes aside, ‘ i saw him cowering over a bar. ‘ a hand unwrapped itself from his legs, and gently found her shoulder once more. ‘ i know it’s difficult, and i hate making you feel this way-- but bottling up is not the answer. i don’t want to lose you, and i’m scared i might if you do not find acceptance for the things you have done, the way you have made people feel -- the way you are clearly punishing yourself. ‘

a smile almost formed on his lips when he saw icarus’ eyes light up. it was the same eyes that he had remembered seeing years ago looking at him trying to make a decision for him. he had learned what he likes and doesn’t like just by that. “yeah?” he asked arching a brow up at him looking rather amused as he leaned back in his seat. it was shocking almost how icarus can get a smile on his face. “well you let me understand who you are very easily.” he said softly, his foot gently resting against icarus’ underneath the table. he just wanted to feel his touch again, was that such a bad thing to want? he breathed out nervously as he sat up straighter pulling his feet underneath his chair and shrugged. “i’ve been coming here a little more than usual since the shop is nearby.” he said staring down at the mug, taking in the smell of the tea realizing that icarus hasn’t heard the news about his family yet. but he wasn’t going to tell him here. not in front of all these people even if half of them were npcs. “uh, things have been a little less busy so i’ve had more time on my hands recently. what about you? i don’t think i’ve seen you here before.”

the simple nature of their conversation made his heart warm up, the touch of the other’s foot against his own, ever the more. it felt as though the world kept moving, and yet this moment did not. until it ended, and aniketos pulled his foot back. it was as though his wings had been clipped, and he was suddenly dropping back to the ground where he belonged. ‘ you never made it hard for me to let you. ‘ an arm rested upon the table, cheek nestled into the palm of his hand as he listened to the other’s words -- doe eyes finding his face once more. ‘ you have a shop here ? ‘ wow, it’s really been a while. ‘ i’m just on my way back to headquarters... i was out here healing a player that notified the guild they may need help. but, then i noticed this quaint place and i just had to come and check it out. ‘

“i’m not off what hook?” radish asked, squinting over at icarus while he tried to figure out exactly what he was talking about. “i mean, i’m sure you’re right. i just have no idea which specific hook you’re referring to. what’d i do this time?” when icarus cursed, rad raised an eyebrow and let out a low whistle. dropping a bullshit? how spicy. he playfully punched icarus’s arm. “okay, but…i am alive, aren’t i?” wink wonk. finger guns. he shrugged one shoulder and sat down on the edge of the table. “eh, i’m alright. i’ve been better. not terrible though so that’s something. how about you. how’ve you been.”

a worried look managed to slip across his features, he was definitely not amused by the way that radish was handling things. fingers found the spot where radish had punched him in the arm jokingly, ‘ this isn’t about me, this is about you. ‘ he paused, shifting his weight from one leg upon the other, ‘ i’m worried about you... you laugh and make jokes, and act like nothing could get to you. ‘ a pause, ‘ i just want to make sure you’re alright after everything that has gone down... i know how much star meant to you. means to you. ‘ and there it was, the reason why he was here in the first place. he had seen vida drowning his shame in yet another glass of alcohol, and the way that starlight evaded his questions. he wasn’t dumb, he could put two and two together.

the pain had been dying down by the day but more often than not it would creep back in, sometimes almost unbearable but hela believed that she just had to get on with it, she had to make a firm effort in ignoring it for as long as she could. what she knew about the battle was minimal but high in importance though she had started trying to piece things together herself, to make things make sense. obviously she hadn’t done well at masking the pain, she shrugged her shoulders a little. “it hurts. it hurts a lot, actually.” she confessed while nodding to consent him taking a lot. she undid her robe, lifting it up so he was able to see her wound clearly. 

brows knitted together as his vision focused upon the wound. worriedly, his glance shifted to meet her eyes ‘ no wonder it hurts so much, you shouldn’t be up and about with that. ‘ shaking his head lightly, icarus began to search through his inventory clicking on the strongest healing potion, ‘ first, please take this. ‘ the man offered it to her, he could do so much as a mystic, but the wound was deep, so he would need all the help he could get. without further ado he took his staff from his inventory as well.

he could remember the nights that they shared together when his dad was having fundraisers for the company and he didn’t want to have to show his face there. the time where they would hold hands underneath the table or the time when his sister almost walked in on them doing stuff that they shouldn’t have been doing. “yeah, it has.” he said agreeing with him and watched the profile of the other rather curiously. his body stiffened for a moment at the familiar question and looked over at the menu that was up on the wall. “tomato basil soup?” he spoke almost immediately as if nothing has changed between them but so much has changed. he has lost his entire family and now they were both stuck in this game. “i remember you saying that you’ve always liked that, right?” he paused for a moment at the question and shifted uncomfortably in his spot. he desperately wished that times were normal where they could go out to a coffee shop and hold each other’s hand again. “plus, besides, i heard it was good here.” he said giving the other a soft smile which was his first smile in a long time and looked down at his drink to avoid his gaze.

being so close and yet so far felt strange, when once upon a time they had spent so much time curled up in bed beside one another. the feeling of the other’s hands against his skin had been blissful and yet, now, the table between them was not the only restraint. too much had happened. too much had happened in the past two-- no, almost three-- years they had spent stuck in this game. ‘ they have that here? ‘ his eyes almost immediately lit up. aniketos knew icarus so well. it left a stinging sensation in his heart, and yet the smile upon his lips never faltered. not once. ‘ perfect, i’ll get that. ‘ the next words left his lips without him even realizing they had. ‘ you know me so well. ‘ only after they had been uttered did he realize their meaning, and heat moved through his body flushing his cheeks into a rosy shade. even the tips of his ears had turned a bright shade of red, dark hues immediately averting downwards gazing at his hands. he didn’t deserve to say these things anymore. ‘ do you come here often? ‘

' that doesn’t look too good... ‘ the words had left his lips before he even realized that he had uttered them. a soft smile was offered up to the young woman, head tilted to the side as doe eyes found her own. ‘ let me take a look at that, please. ‘ he had seen enough players masking the pain they felt, whether physical or mental. however, as one of unity’s healers he was only able to help with the physical side-- even though he did his best to assist with the mental one too. though, that was a little more tricky.

a soft smile had slipped across his lips (honestly though, when wasn’t there a smile on his features?) as he made his way towards killmongur. nimble fingers tapped her shoulder gently, ‘ hey. ‘ he shifted his weight, stepping before her. ‘ just wanted to check that you have eaten today. ‘ truth be told, he wasn’t going to let that be up to fate, which is why he had opened his inventory, pulling out a box with sandwiches. ‘ thought it might not be the case, with so much going on... so i made you this. ‘ box in hand, he extended it forward. icarus knew that killmongur had a lot on her plate, and he wasn’t about to let his friends go through it on their own.
