Just going to dump a random Aziraphale thought here bc I don't know where else to do it, but not only is it likely that Aziraphale went to Heaven because he was coerced to but also because he may actually believe there's still something worth savign there. An inherent goodness to Heaven and angels and all that. Because he could see how inherently good Jimbriel was when all of the corporate programming was removed from him. Same with Muriel, despite their limited interactions. He wants to save the inherently good and curious and innocent parts of Heaven that do still exist, even if they're buried under all the corporate indifference and cruelty.
This is SUCH a good point! This is actually one of the things I really like about Aziraphale.
Fun fact: It is, anecdotally at least, an Autistic trait to be trusting (in some circumstances), slash to try to see good in people, and so I was always really confused/hurt by people insisting that he shouldn't have taken Jimbriel in/given him another chance/tried to redeem heaven/etc.
❤️

Hi Neil!
I just finished watching Dead Boy Detectives and loved it!!
I have a question about it, though:
There is a finnish painting called ”Lemminkäisen äiti” by artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, which really reminded me of the washer woman painting !! :))
I was wondering if there was any chance that it was inspired by it or if it’s just my imagination :D? (Really cool either way)
Tumblr media
(Here’s the painting, it’s about Lemminkäinen’s mother griefing the death of her son, based on Finland’s national epic Kalevala)
I personally have always loved that painting -- i first saw it in the Helsinki art museum in about 1997 and it was my second favourite painting there.
But I don't know the answer to your question.

You are inconsistent. You do not need to have a grand unified theory about what to do about Michael Jackson. You are a hypocrite, over and over. You love Annie Hall but you can barely stand to look at a painting by Picasso. You are not responsible for solving this unreconciled contradiction. In fact, you will solve nothing by means of your consumption; the idea that you can is a dead end. The way you consume art doesn't make you a bad person, or a good one. You'll have to find some other way to accomplish that.

The first time I watched Good Omens, I knew it was coming for all my repressed trauma when Crowley said "You're so clever! How can somebody as clever as you be so stupid?" and with no warning I was suddenly choking back a sob.
Because when you're an indoctrinated fundie teenager people say things like that to you A LOT, and when you're looking back at your younger self after deconstructing you say it to yourself even more.
And when I first got involved in this fandom, the tendency of many fans to snarkily quote that exact line when venting their frustrations about Aziraphale was. Really hard for me to cope with, tbh.

This all started w a photo of Peter Capaldi on Twitter and I immediately thought well he’d be splendid as some alt version of Crowley in the 80s. I had to share this w my dear frand @katiebephoto and then that led us to who would be his Angel. As Katie put it so aptly “stares in Paul McGann”. Sorry to everyone in my feed who can’t be arsed about Good Omens but it will happen again.

I really want to tell the Doctor Who showrunners that an episode doesn't need to have "stakes higher than ever before" to be good. In fact I'd argue that the best episodes affect only like 5 people. No destruction of a whole planet/galaxy/universe necessary

Plenty of highly intelligent people end up getting sucked in to cults because they just wanted people to hang out with. There are antivaxxer nurses. Your ability to act on empirical reason breaks down fast if your social and emotional needs aren't being met.

Fleabag Ending Vs. GO2 Finale
I’ve made a few parallels of Fleabag and Good Omens 2 before, but they were really just one liners. But I wanted to show how the two endings line up quite well even though I don’t believe the motivations are directly equivalent.
“You nailed it.” -Fleabag.
“They always lie. it’ll always come in a minute. There really into each other those two.”-Priest
“They really pulled it off.”- Priest
“Was your sister okay?”- Priest “Yea, she just..” -Fleabag
“-seemed a bit on edge.”- Priest “-she..uh..had a bit of a work thing.” -Fleabag
“Wow, dedicated.” -Priest  “Addicted.” Fleabag; they say at the same time
a pause, she smiles at him..
“Its God isn’t it?”- Fleabag
“Yeah.” -Priest
another pause
“damn” pause” damn” -Fleabag
then she looks directly into his eyes
“You know the worst thing is that I fucking love you. I love you. No. No. Let’s just leave that out there for a second on its own. I love you.”-Fleabag
the priest takes her hand, “It’ll pass.”
“This bus is not magically coming”- Fleabag
“I think I’ll walk.”
“Okay.”
The priest turns to look at her, “Uh, see you Sunday. I’m joking you are never ever allowed in my church again. I love you too. Okay. “ A small wave then he takes off down the street.
-The bus doesn’t come. But a fox does. She tells him that he went that way. Hugs the statue close. She gets up. Shakes her head to camera. Leaves the statue in the trash.
—————————————————————————————————-
The sister and the man at the airport is a interesting parallel to Beelzebub and Gabriel running off together. Then ‘flying’ away. They were both ‘dedicated and addicted’ to Armageddon but they left that for each other.
Aziraphale chooses to go to Heaven. In my opinion, to try and change things, but nonetheless, he leaves. Crowley makes his confession anyway. They let a kiss ‘hang in the air’. Either way, Aziraphale still has to leave.
The fox(the Metatron) makes sure to go after him and leave Crowley. Crowley is the one to tell Aziraphale to talk to the Metatron. Crowley watches as he leaves. We watch them both walk away.
I think it could work for season one as well with Shadwell and Tracy. Dedicated and Addicted to their former selves but giving it up for the other. Adam chooses being a kid over being ruler of everything(if they’d won). A nightingale sings in Berkeley Square whilst angels dine at the Ritz like the fox(sometimes a metaphor for God) following them. They were holding onto their statuses like the statue and finally let it go.
I have no idea what this was for or why I wrote this, but hopefully you’ve enjoyed it if you’ve made it this far. I don’t really think their motivations line up specifically the Priest’s and Aziraphale’s. Fleabag and Crowley and their similarities and differences as well. But I think it’s interesting to look at the ending similarities. Anyway, hope you’ve enjoyed it.

when you think of it. Bildad the Shuhite's last 24 hours in the minisode not bloody optimal
Tumblr media
getting a combat mission to kill everything his buddy Job owns just because She got into some stupid bet
the kids too??? horrid
right in the middle of growing out his hair awkwardly that angle appears. perfect timing to get thwarted. not like that
oh no he's now legit pissed, like it's HIS fault
good (bad) that Bildad has a plan. bad (good) that Aziraphale follows around like a lost sheep, ready to blow his cover anytime. not like that
cue the mortifying ordeal of being known
angel's smugness visible from alpha centauri and he can't even wipe it off with an angry kiss
the kids remain alive but at the cost of annoyance. human twink has the gall to flirt with Aziraphale right in front of his demonic eyes. is nothing sacred anymore
unsolicited temptation backfires badly ( he didn't sign up for food kink development. Regret)
no let me say it again: sexual awakening through ox ribs what even is his life
angel insinuates being the only demon in existence who tries to go his own way seems lonely -> needs to get wasted immediately
literally so hungover the next day he can barely stand and THIS is the moment he witnesses former Mum talking to a human, probably for the first time since Eden. actually stop here, try to step into his shoes and watch the arrow on a scale for secondhand embarrassment doing a full 360°
magical obstetrics time (he still doesn't know where babies come from)
and to top it off: the devastating vision of Aziraphale almost crying
to conclude, pour one out for Bildad the poor bastard deserves it.
