but it doesn’t stop him from coming back again on the hottest day of the summer thus far. jinae’s building doesn’t have central air, nor an elevator — he wonders just how many blistering summer days must have felt never-ending to her when hyejoo was an infant and wonders if that five million won he’d left her with was ever put to good use.

today, he’s accompanied with a small cake from the local bakery in his feeble attempt to make amends. of course he doesn’t know hyejoo’s favorite flavor — he never thought to ask until he’d mentioned it was for his daughter to the baker. this band hiatus was giving doojoon more time he’d ever had in the past six years to actually step back and think about this human being that he’d been a part of bringing into this world. 

keyword: he. doojoon. not the stranger who opens jinae’s door with hyejoo in his arms.

“who —” doojoon feels his chest tighten then, immediately assuming the worst. he bites his tongue because hyejoo is also right there and he doesn’t need her adding another bullet point to her list of why i hate my stupid daddy. “— are you? where’s jinae?”

summer has always been a time to be outside for lixin, a time to be one with nature and find inspiration between the beautiful colours that the summer months have to offer. rarely, does he find himself with a good enough reason to be hidden inside the four walls of a home; let alone a home that isn’t his. though he supposes with the amount of time he spends here (here in this context being jinae’s home with her little one), he could call it a fourth home of sorts; after his actual home, the carpenters shop, and the community centre.

the initial plan for the day was to spend time exploring parts of the town he hadn’t been able to yet despite being around for roughly 12 months, take in pelican towns natural beauty and maybe retain some inspiration for his next piece of artwork. he had been well on his way, backpack clad with watercolour paints, brushes, a sketchbook, and multiple drawing pencils for the moment when inspiration strikes— but a phone call from jinae changed his route entirely.

so that’s how he finds himself lounging around the baek household, one eye always kept on hyejoo as the little girl spends her passing time watching cartoons on the television screen. it would seem that despite the good weather outdoors, she had wished to stay indoors and who is he to deny her happiness? his concentration breaks when he nears a knock on the door, an eyebrow quirking in question as he hadn’t heard anything about jinae expecting anyone at this hour. lazily rolling off his seat on the couch, he makes his way to the door where his eyes meet a face he could never forget despite never actually meeting.

moon doojoon is anything but a stranger to this town and lixin has heard enough stories to know he isn’t the best guy. not to mention the drunken stories he has heard from the woman who lives at the house; stories no one should ever have to go through. he must have been expecting jinae. he thinks, as he stares blankly at the male. “i’m lixin and jinae isn’t here right now, as you can tell.” now, lixin is a nice guy, ask anyone in town, but he’s protective over those he cares about. he barely moves an inch, arms crossing at his chest before he speaks again. “i know you and i really think you should go. the best i can do is take a message for you to convey to jinae but you’re not coming inside.”

that day, she’d asked if he could watch hyejoo while she took her grandmother to the doctor and ran some errands. as always, he’d happily agreed, but she felt a little bad asking him to take care of her on a saturday so she did her best to hurry and then make her way to the beach to pick her daughter up.

hyejoo’s bright blue swimsuit is what catches jinae’s attention first, and she beelines for them with an amused smile on her face. hyejoo was in the middle of squirt-gunning the life out of lixin with ocean water and he was dramatically flopping onto the beach in defeat. the childish glee in her daughter’s laughter always brought a smile to her face.

“sorry to interrupt,” she greets, one hand holding the floppy hat down on her face so the ocean breeze doesn’t blow it away. “it looks like you two have had a fun afternoon, huh?”

children have always been a delight to lixin, their cheery smiles and out of the world energy never fail to put him in the best of moods and he finds himself falling into their spell of innocence. but he has realized far early on that the fleeting lifestyle he desires, never belonging to one place, is no home for raising a child–– let alone his wish for more than one. so he finds solace in taking care of other people’s and it’s a long running joke now that he has god children all over the world. pelican town is, of course, no exception. 

jinae and hyejoo came into his life out of pure coincidence: she needed help, he was there to offer. now, he hadn’t fully expected the turn of events where he finds himself taking care of hyejoo whenever jinae had too much on her plate but he can’t complain; he adores the little girl and he thinks knows she adores him as well. so from that day forward whenever he has taken it upon himself to be there to babysit little hyejoo whenever he can, taking her on little adventures around the town, playing at the playground where he almost found himself to be stuck on the slide (curse himself for thinking he’s smaller than he really is), even bringing her along when he’s teaching at the community centre. 

he can’t say for sure, but he thinks he gets a bigger turn out when she’s there. 

and that’s the story of how he finds himself at the beach, body hitting the sand in defeat at hyejoo relentless showers him with cold ocean water, forced straight from the water gun he had let her borrow. “okay okay, i surrender!” he manages to say in between spurts of water and the giggle of the little girl, his own laughs sounding in between. he manages to find a moment where hyejoo takes a breather and he quickly gets to his feet, wrapping his arms around her tiny frame and lifting the child into the air. “can’t spray me now, can you?!” he chuckles, setting her down shortly after, their playful moment intercepted by a soft voice amongst the slight ocean breeze. 

lixin greets jinae with a happy grin and a wave, urging hyejoo toward her mother. “any time with hyejoo is fun ~ she definitely enjoyed spraying me down to the ground.” he grabs a towel from the beach bag he had brought with him, patting himself dry before running a hand through his hair and shaking his head to let the water droplets dry up, careful not to get anything on jinae. “you finished everything faster than i thought— all good?”

noeul  stared  at  the  piece  of  art  in  front  of  her.  really ,  lixin  had  outdone  himself.  all  she  could  manage  was  to  stand  there  in  awe  of  the  true  masterclass  of  woodworking.  “  lixin  …  how  long  did  this  take  you  to  make  ?? ”  noeul  knew  how  talented  her  best  friend  was ,  but  every  now  and  again ,  he  pulled  something  out  of  –  pardon  the  pun  –  the  woodwork  that  rendered  her  speechless.  “  who  or  what  did  you  make  this  for  again ?? ” she  wouldn’t  lie  to  herself  and  deny  the  fact  that  she   was  jealous  of  whomever  would  be  able  to  call  this  theirs.  she  grinned  at  her  friend. “ you’re  stronger  than  you  look !!  do  you  ever  get  tired  while  working ?? ” alas ,  she  wouldn’t  be  noeul  without  teasing  him  a  little.

“oh this little thing?” lixin grins in the direction of his best friend, the apples of his cheeks dusted with a soft shade of pink at the compliment. not the first time he had been showered in positive words about one of his creations and despite it not being the most humble thing to say, he doesn’t think it’ll be the last either. the work in question is a two-seater wooden swing that sits comfortably on the grass just before the border where green meets the beige shades of the sandy beach. a piece of work he had spent a few months on now can finally see the light, and also meet it’s partial owner in the form of the girl in front of him. “well you see...” he starts, gently tugging on her arm as he does, pulling her in the direction of the swing’s seat. “i made it for you! actually, more like us, but i had you in mind when making it.” he sits down on one side, urging her to do the same as a gentle breeze brushes past. “for some reason the idea of a swing just came to me when i was bored one day and i thought this would be such a perfect little item for us to just chill, you know?”

a brief glimpse at pelican town’s resident sunshine boy, wang lixin. aesthetics featuring neutral shades, an interchangeable colour palette to represent the way he so easily blends into the lives of each and every resident.

"dip the brush into the ink and with the flick of your wrist, draw a smooth stroke on the page.” 

lixin essentially mumbles the words as he reads off of the screen of his ipad, placed directly in front of himself and haru as both males are hunched over large blank sheets of paper. this had been entirely his idea, this being the difficult art of calligraphy. in his defence, it seemed easier in the videos he had watched of others attempting it. but now, an unknown amount of pages wasted later, he’s starting to regret it despite starting to get the hang of it. 

he peers over at haru’s paper though and he finds himself needing to place the back of his free hand over his lips to quiet the laughter that bubbles. now, lixin always knew he is the more artistic one of the pair, at least when it comes to things like visual arts, while haru is more of a writer. however, he hadn’t expected the male to (for a lack of better words) be that terrible. but that’s alright, that’s what instructional videos and peer support are for anyway! 

once his laughter quiets down, he sets his brush against the wooden rest, leaving it at a bit of an angle against the table itself. turning to haru, he studies his friend for a quiet moment before speaking. 

“you look like you’re struggling, my dude.” 

he nudges haru, just the slightest as to not disturb his friends concentration too much. for someone who can’t even tell someone their artwork isn’t good, he sure has a knack for teasing his friends at being bad at things, especially when they are as close as he and haru are. but he supposes that’s the difference between friendship and...everything else.

waaah opening is here!! hi friends, this is blossom ( s / h, 21+ ) and i bring you wang lixin aka sunshine in human form ☀️ i don’t have his full biography up yet but here is a little page about him, his stats and what not. below the cut will be some facts about him to give you a better idea of who he is / his story!! as usual, drop a like if you’re down to plot - i’m available through discord and tumblr ims if need be. can’t wait to write with everyone ~

- wang lixin, 25, born to two artistic parents in harbin, heilongjiang, china 

- his parents pretty much let him have free reign on his life and do whatever he wanted, not governing him like typical parents would 

- this explains why he’s a bit...aloof and never went to university 🥴

- but !!! this does not, by any means, make him dumb or anything…he’s actually pretty smart and he definitely inherited the artistic gene from both his parents

- travelled a lot when he was younger with his parents during the summers, they wanted inspo for their art and what better way than to see the world?

- due to his travels, he’s able to speak a few different languages - predominantly the following (in order of fluency): fluent mandarin, fluent english, conversational korean, conversational japanese, very broken cantonese

- while he travelled with his parents during his young adult years and slowly transitioned to doing solo travels, he had always come back home to harbin but at around 22 he decided being in one place really isn’t for him

- so he packed his bags and decided to wander the earth, no real plan in mind but just going anywhere he feels like

- stumbled upon stardew valley and the quaint pelican town by accident tbh but he's been here ever since his arrival a year ago

- he’s built up a pretty good reputation around the town, always helpful and reliable for anything anyone needs (especially if you need something at the carpenters shop?? he gotchu boo xox)

- when he’s not working on his craft, he’s teaching art lessons at the community centre, free of charge

- now, at 26, he thinks pelican town might be the place where he settles for the time being, just doing woodworking and art, having the time of his life

potential plot bunnies 👐🏻

- typical plot where you're one of the first people he met when he arrived! whether they got off on the right or wrong foot is entirely up in the air

- someone who visits the carpenter's shop frequently, either as a customer or you just really enjoy being around the environment for whatever reason, he doesn't ask, but you two strike up good conversation each time

- he's travelled a lot so perhaps you and him have crossed paths at one point in your lives before both of you ended up here!

- he's teaching one of his paint classes and you're honestly the worst student he's had, nothing you paint looks right but he doesn't have the heart to tell you :///

- the library is supposed to be a quiet place for people but then you come along and he's normally very nice but how can he read his novels when you're making such a ruckus

- honestly, he's too nice and you find that super sus (fair enough u_u) and it's now your mission to find his flaws and show people that he's not who they think he is (spoiler tw: he is tho)

- the typical ex plot, be it from pelican town or maybe from when he was travelling!
