This fic was. Such a patchwork honestly. I know normally I construct a plot as I got but seriously there’s such a difference (to me) by the end in the writing. I kept having to go back and rewrite stuff (that goddamn window in the science wing, y’all) it drove me insane

Honestly, I don’t really know why I harped so much on the whole ‘ecto-blasters are harmless to humans’ thing. I feel like it was a lot of setup and little payoff but I couldn’t really think of a symbolic meaning to add by the end.

Extended authors notes because I already rambled enough in the notes of the fic, but… I think Harmless is really about powerlessness. I gave these kids a fantastical life- they fight ghosts! They win! They don’t have fire drills, they gave alternate dimension vacuum drills! That’s cool as hell! But then none of that saves them. Ectoblasts don’t hurt humans. Sam has all these weapons Danny stole from his parents for protection and they don’t help. It’s like that quote from another post, the guy who was like “how can we expect the characters to know what genre they’re in?” Everyone is living in a comedy cartoon and I’m forcing them into real life and it is horrible for everybody involved. No matter how hard you fight, you’re powerless
