“While I was attending school in the United States, it was so difficult to make a living that I even worked as an air conditioner installer once just to make ends meet. By the time I turned 36, I was still not done with school and decided instead to come back to Korea and go into the film industry. I was the most recent one to enter the film world, so I first started by picking up cigarette butts. I didn’t have any money, so I canceled my apartment contract and took the security deposit to film a movie. Fortunately, my movie was selected for the Busan International Film Festival. However I didn’t have anyone to do public relations for my movie, so I came out here like this on my own.” “I’ve actually never seen a movie director advertising his own film in the streets like this.” “Really? I guess not all are as desperate as me. I am really desperate.”  (BIFF 2014)

I fear that as both an Asian and Japanese writer the steady achievements we’ve made (in deepening cultural exchanges and understanding with our Asia neighbors) will be hugely damaged because of the problems regarding Senkaku and Takeshima this time," -- Haruki Murakami
