i think in quite a few ways the modern "homesteading" movement is uh. unfortunate, to put it mildly, in terms of both ideology and how that ideology is put into practice (and/or romanticized)

but i do think to some extent that lefty people are throwing the baby out with the bathwater, particularly when it comes to the small-scale production of food

the global production and transport of fruits, vegetables, etc. has a significant climate impact, and the industries responsible for them are often dependent on mistreating marginalized human workers

and when it comes to animal agriculture, i think we have a bimodal distribution of hardcore ARA vegans and people who have just shrugged off all moral concerns about animal products by chirping that there's "no ethical consumption under capitalism!"

on my flight and there are so many babies. I'm talking throughout the plane, right next to me, and right in front of me. I smiled and waved to the baby next to me a few times when he smiled and waved at me, but like. After 3 or 4 times of doing this what do I do. can someone who knows how to associate with babies tell me please like bro kept staring at me and I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT am I supposed to baby talk? (I can't baby talk) Do I strike up conversation with the parent holding the baby, who I keep making eye contact with every time I wave at the baby? Am I supposed to high five it. I don't know man

oh yeah and then at the end of the flight the kid in front of me (maybe like 1.5-2 years old) kept turning around and saying hi to me. Obviously I said hi back every time but I feel like these babies were plotting together to test me and I somehow failed. like there's a secret handshake you do after the third hello with the baby. Is it normal or do I just not have enough experience around young kids... I'll never know
