appreciation post for all the villain creatures from old barbie movies. the ghoulish freaks. the creatures that look like they would bite your wrist and youd have to pry them off with a rake. horrible animals. you dont find this breed of character designs anymore.

I asked you a question over two years ago, Anne. If I ask it again today will you give me a different answer?
Still Anne could not speak. But she lifted her eyes shining with all the love-rapture of countless generations, and looked into his for a moment. He wanted no other answer.

I tap the mic. “Most people don’t want to crawl down your chimney and steal your dog.”
the crowd murmurs uncertainly.
“If someone wants to steal your dog,” I continue, “there are easier ways to do that. They don’t have to crawl into a chimney.”
Murmuring intensifies. People stand in their seats and begin to boo.
“People disguising themselves as chimney sweepers and stealing dogs is not a rational fear,” I shout. “Literally anyone could steal your dog. Why make sweeping chimneys illegal?”
“I have a list of chimney sweeps who stole dogs from parks!” Someone yells, throwing a shoe.
“You seriously think no chimney sweepers could possibly ever steal from a home?” Another cries.
“Only a dog thief would even want to crawl into a chimney to begin with!” Says a third.
A single tear rolls down my cheek. They are all so fucking stupid
This is a metaphor

Quick update. ✨
Hi, hello. 👋
So. I've been working on something a tiny bit different—a m/m novel. (Yes, novel. Not a comic. I know.) It's a completely separate story from Check, Please!, but it's got the same humor, pining, and feel-good vibes that make #omgcp what it is.
It’s about John Rich, a 28-year-old cover artist for The New York Review, who’s tasked with drawing the gorgeous but seemingly vapid action star, Tyler Hughes. Problem is, John can’t seem to draw this dude. Then of course, shenanigans.
I've posted the first five chapters on AO3, and I've been updating monthlyish? (Remember how I never had an update schedule for Check, Please! ya...) If you're into funny, feel-good, lighthearted gay romance, do give it a read. Absolutely, no pressure. Just wanted to share what I'm working on that wasn't superheroes or semi-autobio YA.
the link: John Rich & The Big Picture word count: 37k tags: enemies to lovers, enemies to friends to lovers, banter, snark, quip, new york city, romantic comedy.

Rise of Red Rant: Ella-as-pranker ed.
Here I am, hopping on the good old tumblr dot com to make my second Descendants rant (the first being in 2015, lol) after not touching the app in god knows how long. But some things must be said, and I'm here to say them.
I've seen too many comments on social media platforms saying how people thought the movie was gearing up to make Ella the pranker, especially correlating her being grounded with Bridget not being pranked. This line of reasoning was so bad that I had to make this post to complain about it. Do people not realize that Ella HAS to be grounded for the Cinderella story arc to exist? Cinderella must sneak to the ball (here, school dance), dance with a prince in some sort of disguise, and lose an item that her prince later uses to identify her. If she wasn't grounded, the second half of this story wouldn't have happened. Do people simply forget the plot of the most adapted story on earth??????? Of course, this isn't disagreeing with the alternative argument that it wasn't the prank that turned Bridget evil but instead Ella abandoning her for Charming. However, that would theoretically still happen in the new timeline, since the Cinderella of the original timeline must have been grounded/forbidden to attend the dance for some reason or another, too, in order for the entire fairy tale plot to happen (which we know it does because they reference the glass slippers at the beginning of the movie).
All of this is of course related to the rushed narrative that doesn't show us either the original dance or the altered one after the MCs interfere. What that absence does not excuse is painfully stupid fan theories that disregard the plot points that are not filled with holes, like Ella needing to go to the dance in secret in order to follow the script of her original story.
Anyway, that's my rant. lol

when I was a little kid at some point I got upset with my parents because I didn't have a crucifix in my bedroom and they did- I was like why do YOU get to be safe from vampires??? you're okay with me getting my blood sucked???? so we took a little trip to the catholic store but the one closest to us was run by a group of nuns that had been moved here from romania. I got a little baby pink cross and this sweet old nun was like 'aww, is this a baptism gift?' and I was like no. I need to be protected from vampires. and she immediately got SO serious and was like 'this is the best one we've got, you'll definitely be safe' and since she was literally from vampire land I was convinced she was like, van helsing. like the whole time my parents had been laughing about how cute my fear was but she literally Knew dracula and was taking my concerns seriously I held this over my parents for so long lmfao

children existing in public spaces is genuinely like. necessary for the continuation of society. it doesnt have to be your kids you dont have to volunteer at a daycare or whatever but you need to be able to tolerate the presence of someone who is learning how to exist as a human and interact with people

Regrettably, I really like "But Daddy I Love Him." It has Fearless vibes, which is probably why, but even the mess surrounding the song is weirdly compelling to me. Like, I've had this theory for a while that Taylor tries to date those perfect sons-in-law type cause those are the guys she thinks she should like but when it comes down to it her actual type is literally just John Mayer. You know, the pretentious bad boy rock star who looks like he never bathes...Well, to each their own I guess.
I also find it really interesting that this song marks the first time Taylor has ever actually publicly criticized her own fans, going as far as to call them vipers. And how fitting that she's never cared that they harass, doxx and intimidate people on her behalf but the second they have a problem with her dating a huge racist they need to mind their own fucking business, right Taylor? You can tell she was absolutely fuming that her fanbase would ever dare do anything but heap countless praises on her head and instead would try to tell her what to do and honestly she'd probably have a point about her love life being her business if a) the reason her fans hated MH wasn't that he's a huge racist (which she really buries the lead about in this song, you'd think they didn't like him because he's a 'bad boy' or whatever crap), and b) if she hadn't literally spent her entire career using her romantic life as a marketing ploy. Like, I'm sorry girl but you can't parasocial this hard with your fans and then be mad at them for being too invested in your love life, at a certain point you have to admit you created this situation yourself.
