Doctor Who. Serie 11.
~ Ok, let’s do this.
- Get ready for some brillant adventures across Space and Time inside the brand new Ghost Monument with the Doctor and her... Gang ? Team ? Fam’ ?
~ Sad to say that I don’t think i enjoy the season this much.
As annonce, it was the year of changes, but too much change... not good. It could have been, but no. Not for everything.
It feel like it wasn’t Doctor Who for most of the serie. I didn’t get the real Doctor Who vibes until episode 7 (Kerblam!) !
Let’s be honest, every series of the show have those middly-transitionnal, not so good and easily forgettable episodes; but here, it’s like almost the whole season was like that:
- The first one (The Woman Who Fell to Earth) is nothing exceptional but good enough i think.
- Episode 3 (Rosa) is not that great. Yes it was sad, and yes i cried, but there no story behind. Like the whole purpose of the script was to inevitably lead to THE heartbreaking scene. So just good.
- Episode 2 (The Ghost Munument), 5 (The Tsuranga Conundrum), and 9 (It Takes You Away) have something. Not the greatest but it have some interesting ideas.
- Episode 7 (Kerblam!) is the best for me. A good and interesting story, with details that makes everything. A surprising plot-twist, and a "bad guy" with some depth.
- The others are, to me, just fragile and/or boring. Even the last one (The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos) don’t feel like a finale, i don’t see an evolution for the story or the caracters.
Now, a list of things I enjoy this year, and things I did not.
- Thirteen: A brillant Doctor. Not like many, i didn’t hate her way before i’ve even seen her, and I didn’t love her either. For me, it was just wait and see. And I was not desappoint; the acting of Jodie Whittaker is great, and I think that’s what save this season. Too bad the script wasn’t a good thing to her talent.
- The companions: I don’t really have an opinion on them. We didn’t really get the chance to know them that much, mostly for Yaz and Ryan. Graham is a little bit more interesting, and could have been more in the last episode if at the end it wasn’t just "neh, change my mind".
- The TARDIS: Love the new exterior aspect, but not a great fan of the new interior; it look small and dark (and what is this "tiny TARDIS" in the console unit ?). We barely see it/her, and there not those scene were the Doctor turn and mess around the console unit anymore, and it sucks.
- The new opening sequence: I like it. Yeah.
~ So what next ?
Well, I’ll wait for the special, I think a New Year’s episode instead of a Christmas’s might be a good thing, that a change I’ll go for.
Sure, I’ll watch the next serie, but let’s hope it worth the 2 years wait !
