Evening jacket, 1937, by Elsa Schiaparelli

A fine and important Elsa Schiaparelli couture Zodiac jacket, the Astrology Collection, Winter, 1938-39, Paris. This is arguably one of the most beautiful of all Schiaparelli's creations with its glittering embroidery, shimmering star-shaped beads and rhinestones set against a midnight blue velvet background. Marlene Dietrich was photographed in her Beverly Hills residence in 1938 wearing the zodiac ensemble with matching dress. Schiap was fascinated by the night sky that she used to view as a child through her uncle's telescope - the renowned astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, director of the Brera Observatory in Milan. He inspired in her a lifelong fascination with the celestial realm. He commented that the moles on her cheeks reminded him of the Big Dipper which she adopted as her 'lucky star', incorporating it into printed fabrics, the fabric lining her salon, her own personal jewellery as well as on this magnificent jacket. Schiaparelli's press agent Hortense MacDonald stated that the Astrology collection was defined by Euclid's famous geometric treatise - 'Elements'.

An early progress picture of a brick oven that I created based on a real outdoor brick oven I used to see in town near my nana's. The fact this turned out to be an LED miniature was a delightful surprise. Even if this was exceedingly tedious to do color by color, the end results definitely paid off.  Versus

So... confession... I love making weird, organic, and gross pieces. They're too much fun to paint! Early in my painting experimentation, I decided to purchase one of the bulk cast off terrain that Cicadia Crafts used to offer through Etsy to try to practice my skills. When I came across these oopsies, I decided to lean into it by turning the issues into part of the piece. About two years ago, Covid hit and threw a monkey wrench into my one year anniversary plans with my partner. I scrambled to search for something for the two of us to be able to do together that would be safe during quarantine and would be fun for two creative minds. As a long time gamer, I decided to throw a mini painting party for two by getting a starter set of paints, some funky miniatures, some brushes, and provided some fingers crossed that all would go well. Little did I know I was about to dive into what would become my favorite hobby. Since that time I've started two (going on three) campaigns set in my favorite D&D setting: Waterdeep, which has given me plenty of excuses to feed this addiction. Here's one of my first painting projects two years ago that were given as a gift. These hand painted store signs were created for my partner's terrain collection to help bring his game world to life. I loved working with these so much that I've recently purchased a set for myself off of Etsy to paint for #HeroesOfWaterdeep.
