thinking about the conversation between the marks vs. the dylans. obviously there were different contexts but innie mark growing increasingly incensed that outie mark expects him to give up his life and happiness for him while outie mark sees innie mark as a selfish child. and then we have innie dylan asking to die because he dearly loves his outie’s wife and can’t be with her and outie dylan being so resigned and convinced of his own mediocrity and failures and hoping that one day gretchen will see in him what she sees in innie dylan. not knowing that gretchen DID once see in him what she sees in innie dylan. and that’s why she loves him and married him. just. mark s and mark scout and dylan g and dylan george man. the parallels.
