Characters in fanfics do not have to be good. Characters in fanfics do not have to change or develop to meet all societal standards at the end. Characters in fanfic do not have to regret all the bad things they have done.

That's what can make them more surprising or unpredictable in a plot: that they are acting on their own terms, their morals are dysfunctional, and they show signs of sociopathy or pure madness.

Let the dark characters be dark.

maybe it’s just me but I haven’t seen anyone talk about how in ‘How Did It End?’ when she reaches the part where she creates the imaginary of how the gossip spreads, when she sings

“guess who we ran into at the shops/ walking in circles like she was lost”

that *the shops* is a reference to August when she sings

“meet me behind the mall” (meet me behind them all)

The shops = the mall where they used to hang out/ the time they spent together but now she *walks in circles like she’s lost* because her partner is not there anymore— she is uncertain of being there because of the memories of the place that was important to them.
