“As we mourn Abrams’ macho Trek obliteration, it’s a good time to revisit Voyager, at once the most Star Trek-ian of accomplishments and the most despised object of fanboy loathing in the franchise’s nearly 50-year history. From 1995-2001, it offered American audiences something never seen before or since: a series whose lead female characters’ agency and authority were the show. It was a rare heavy-hardware science fiction fantasy not built around a strong man, and more audaciously, it didn’t seem to trouble itself over how fans would receive this. On Voyager, female authority was assumed and unquestioned; women conveyed sexual power without shame and anger without guilt. Even more so than Buffy, which debuted four years later, it was the most feminist show in American TV history.”

Now, “Voyager”: in praise of the Trekkiest “Trek” of all | Balder and Dash | Roger Ebert
This fascinating series review might re-frame your whole evaluation of Voyager.
If you’re into that kind of thing.

#what an interesting article#there are some things that are definitely of their time in voyager#like the producers worrying about janeway not being feminine enough with all the ridiculous wigs#but the women of voyager never felt one dimensional girl boss stereotypes#their struggles never felt shallow to me#and yeah there is a unique sadness to voyager#star trek#star trek voyager

hi i dont know you but im asking this because you seem like you would know. is janeway insane or is that the fandom's overexaggeration. she's my favorite character i havent watched the show yet and i need her to be crazy because it would be funny. sisko had his "indiscriminately murdering the maquis because he was irritated at eddington" moment, does janeway on a reoccurring basis do similar things
oh yeah she’s proper nuts like the jokes about her threatening to blow up anyone who so much as looks at her crew wrong are not an exaggeration. scorpion, the chute, and dark frontier are some examples of this behaviour that come to mind but there are definitely more. the people of the delta quadrant canonically hate voyager and for good reason lol
#at first i thought this interpretation was for fun only#but it turned out to be surprisingly accurate#kathryn janeway#star trek#star trek voyager

one of the funniest parts of the tuvok + harry friendship is that the moment tuvok became captain harry started acting up to the point of getting the entire crew to mutiny yet tuvok still likes harry more than tom

My roommate has theorized the head pieces for the Ferengi come from a historical place of using it to keep the rain off their backs, since they have no hair they need to protect. I pointed out the pattern folks on the internet had noticed where it seemed like the Ferengi "in charge" never wore them, and she went "yeah! because they're not the ones going outside doing labor! They're the ones staying inside doing business!" and honestly I love that as the origin of the headpieces that eventually evolved as a cultural signifier lol

Meld is such an unintentionally funny episode of voyager and I literally can’t take emo tuvok seriously bc he sounds like a middle schooler who watches so much anime
