nathan and alisha:

both have a similar sense of humor (at least, alisha almost always laughs at nathan's stupid jokes even when everyone else is rolling their eyes)

both tend to posture and puff up to hide deep insecurities or pain

most of that insecurity revolves around being left, forgotten, discarded, etc. and while we don't know much about alisha's background, it doesn't seem like a huge leap to think that this fear is too rooted to just be because of poor relationships with boyfriends

even if it was, though, look at them; neither know how to keep a stable relationship bc they're too flighty and are terrible communicators, so a lot of their friendships and romances feel superficial no matter how badly they want something more meaningful

sex and booze as coping mechanisms

gossips!

bullies who are secretly really sensitive and mostly hurt people so they either feel better about themselves or because they don't want to be hurt first!

attachment issues to the point of being just a little obsessed in a not-so-healthy way! nathan bargained with kelly and said he'd change himself for her! alisha tricked simon into selling his power so he (hopefully) wouldn't die and also wasn't totally honest in a few other small ways so that they'd get into a relationship!

both fall for people who are their polar opposites, who they initially saw as targets for bullying (this could be simon on both counts, but nathan also picked on kelly and didn't think she was his type until, uh oh, she was)

consent issues! my goodness, these two have such a shaky understanding of consent... alisha's is the most obvious bc of how she abuses her power in the beginning, but nathan is also guilty since he has a habit of getting girls drunk in order to convince them to have sex with him

poor self-worth! they're pretty physically vain characters, but tend to objectify themselves, using sex as a bartering chip for getting what they want, whether it's affection or favors

on the surface, they're pretty mean and seem flippant about other people, but really they're just protecting themselves and don't care to waste energy on people they believe will just leave them or won't care about them anyway. instead, they put that energy into caring for the people they call "theirs" and would risk their lives to keep them safe and happy.

they're also both a lot smarter than people give them credit for; reducing them only to their "idiotic comic relief" and "promiscuous hot girl" archetypes is probably what they want, but it'd be a very flat view of who they really are

and!!! i just think they could've had a really interesting, chaotic, maybe even eventually healthy relationship that might have done them both some good. it would have been entertaining at least.

truly, nathan/alisha is one of the most squandered relationships in the misfits series.

i am once again thinking about how similar nathan and alisha are and how insane it is that there was never a scene that really focused on that.

unless you count, maybe, the scene where they bump into each other trying to spy on simon bc they're both concerned/jealous that he's dating a potential serial killer. that was pretty good.

but there should have been more.

I beg my kidnappers for a phone, swearing not to make any calls or texts, and they stare over my shoulder, holding a gun to my head as I use my newly-freed hand to post, "So do like, dudes just buy ropes and baklavas from the same store or what lmfao like a specialty Crime Store"

One of the kidnappers says "balaclavas" but it's muffled under the fabric. I ask them to repeat and they do, their voice raspy from disuse. "You wrote baklava, that's a pastry." The other kidnapper goes "stfu" and then after a pause goes "Why would you buy from a crime store"
