Oh and at the end they manage to mix in that lil bit about Tuvix. It really is well handled here. They're basically like, holy fuck Janeway killed him! But they also off-handedly mention that unlike Voyager, they aren't stuck in the delta quadrant, so the situation is different.
Then they do the whole combination thing and it's like, well ok now this is more of a giant blob thing so it's pretty much a non-issue to go ahead and split it up. Kudos LDS, you managed to not make Janeway look like a monster, but also have the crew take a more... ethically sound path.

Hilarious fucking shit in these two episodes oh my god. The "I miss my wife" bit.. fucking golden. Lower decks continues to succeed because they keep going "fuck it, punch the silly to 11" and it works every time. If they only went halfway or didn't go as hard into the history of trek, it would've probably been cringe.
..With that said, I see you paramount, releasing those two episodes off the bat, and lets not act like we don't all know why.

SNW 2x09
Man the more I think about it, the more awesome the musical is. Status report is such a perfect song, and it embodies Trek in musical form so well. The technobabble, all the different stations reporting in. Perfect. Also "I'm Ready" and "Im The Ex" being opposites to one another? Bruh. My one complaint is there should have been more genres. They pulled off boy band well with the Klingons, I'd have loved to see other aliens do other genres. Maybe K-Pop Cardassians? Techno Thollians? Jazz Ferengi? I'd love if they did the musical again, but it might be hard to do it a second time. Perhaps it could be done like in TNG where they did that TOS episode of everyone being drunk again and specifically mentioned "hmm, this happened before on..." except this time make it actually good. Could be a fun episode of Star Trek Legacy?

SNW 2x09 (Subspace rhapsody) SPOILERS AHEAD
Probably going to update this blog later, still getting used to how tumblr works in function, but for now enjoy the swirly thing and triangle.. thing.
I'll be honest, it wasn't my favorite episode but SNW did pull off a musical, I absolutely respect the boldness tho and love they experimented like this. Status report is definitely my favorite of them all and perfectly captures what I think a star trek musical would sound like. Also really liked the part when different characters start their part and you can feel the song shift in tone slightly to match. I especially noticed it with Ortegas and La'an.
Alright so I've taken a break to go eat dinner from the first part to this current part, so this is current me speaking now. The more and more I listen to these songs, the more I fall in love with this episode. I love the status report (even more), I love the Klingon part, and I love Chapel going nuts with it. Also can we talk about how sad it is that Sam Kirk just kinda dies? I love him and Jim but he just kinda dies with no real impact in TOS. I don't even remember Kirk feeling bummed about it, he was a non-character in TOS so they just kinda skipped over it. Ah well, the downsides to being a prequel.
I do however have one big worry that wasn't addressed in this episode, Ortegas. This was the second to last episode of season 2, and Ortegas still hasn't gotten her time in the spotlight. Sure, she had moments in the episode where everyone lost their memories, but it wasn't nearly enough. She's starting to remind me of Travis May weather from Enterprise, and if you're an ENT fan, you know that's not good. It's a shame because nearly everything SNW has done has been a complete hit for me, so I'm sure if they gave Ortegas an episode she'd nail it. But my hopes are low because I'd be somewhat surprised if her episode was the finale, but I suppose it is possible.
Anyway, I've gone at least a few minutes too many without listening to auto-tuned Klingons, so if you'll excuse me...
