I've made it my tradition to take a picture of this #skyscraper whenever I visit #Denver. It is one of my favourites because it is unpretentious and simple, yet elegant. It was nice to see it again, although next time I hope to visit Denver for pleasure, not because our car lost its front left wheel on highway I-70 with ten lanes altogether. On my recent short trip to #KansasCity I only managed to do three things - visit some of its beautiful gardens with fountains, spend five hours at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and take this shot. So much more to discover 😊 Thank you @marianzvada for taking me. This #skyscraper is one of the two American Century Towers, but do not ask me if this is the one finished in 1991 or 1994 as they both look the same. All I know is that they are 72 meters high, have 15 floors and were designed by HKS, Inc. It was my high school classmates who introduced me to the #Chicago musical movie from 2002. I've seen it many times since then. When I visited the real city in summer 2017 I was very surprised not to find it filled with jazz and crime. It was this beautiful city on a lake, the modern Venice of the Midwest that I discovered through a lovely boat tour. This sign is the only thing that for some reason reminds me of my movie impression of the city. Yet Chicago is not only nice and shiny. Take the subway and you'll have people offer you shoes on the train or at least try to shine yours. Go south and see the impoverished districts long past their heydays, suspiciously filled with many churches where stores used to be. Go to a gallery and see artwork by children from elementary schools, lamenting over gang violence. Stay in a cheap Airbnb and meet people who permanently live there, because they have hard times renting a place of their own. Walk around the centre and watch homeless people bless their patrons and curse those who do not give them any money. My favourite thing about the Lincoln Grand Cinema is the #pattern on its #floor. I almost do not want to walk on it to preserve it.
