In downhill, you're absolutely 'on the limit', and that's just so exciting
(CNN)Zooming past trees, gnarled roots and metal poles on a mountain bike, the wind blowing in your face as you race down the dirt course -- this is just a snapshot of the UCI Mercedes-Benz Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup.
And downhill world champion Reece Wilson is readily aware of how demanding his sport can be.
"I like to compare it to rugby," Wilson tells CNN Sport. "If you replace all the people in a rugby field with metal poles or trees and asked everybody to run as fast as they could, I think not many people would want to do it."
The 2021 Downhill World Cup starts Friday in Leogang, Austria, the same venue where Wilson became downhill world champion last year.
Wilson on top of the podium at the UCI DH World Championships in Leogang last October.
But being on the same course doesn't make any difference to the 25-year-old.

"For me, it's a new year. It's a new start. We have a new bike. There's a lot of new things going on. So a completely new mindset, and you just start again from where you are this year."
In addition to Leogang, there are four other global stops on the circuit, including Les Gets, France, which features a new, never-ridden-before track.
Throughout these five events, each rider will try to collect as many points as possible to be crowned the Overall downhill world cup winner.
Beside downhill, the Mountain Bike World Cup also has other disciplines, including cross country and four-cross.

Barack Obama and Marcus Rashford talk about the power of the next generation new
(CNN)As well as being a superstar for Manchester United and England, Marcus Rashford is using his platform to help others less fortunate than him.
Last year, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Rashford led a campaign to end child food poverty and successfully lobbied the British government to continue providing free school meals during the holidays.
He also launched a book club to get disadvantaged children reading more earlier this year.
And the 23-year-old can count former US President Barack Obama as one of his admirers after all his hard work.
On a Zoom call organized by publishers Penguin, Obama hailed Rashford for being "a lot further ahead than I was at 23."
"They're already making changes and being positive forces in their communities" Obama said speaking about the young people he meets.

The historic rivalry between England and Germany that changed football forever
(CNN)Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says winning the club's first Women's Champions League would be an "incredible achievement," but insists success is also about inspiring the next generation of young girls.
Speaking to CNN Sport's Amanda Davies ahead of the final against Barcelona on Sunday, the 44-year-old says she feels relaxed and is determined to enjoy the experience.
Her team, full of world class stars such as Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr, has been in sensational form and could become the first English women's team to win a European trophy since Arsenal in 2007.
"It would be an incredible achievement to do that," Hayes told CNN Sport.
"But what I would be most proud of, beyond the winning, is that women's football is going to dominate the back sheets, the front pages, the news broadcasting that evening.
"Scores of little girls are going to run into school the following day and say, 'Did you see Fran Kirby last night?' That for me is as important as winning the game."
Hayes has turned Chelsea into a winning machine this season and the club is bidding for an astonishing quadruple.
It has already clinched the WSL title and League Cup this year, with just the Champions League and FA Cup left to win.

The last women's team to win the quadruple was Arsenal back in 2007, where Hayes was working as an assistant to manager Vic Akers.
"There's probably a lot of similarities," she said, comparing the two sides. "The difference being is, I think, I've got more depth.
"We both had match winners, we both had top goalkeepers. We've both got experience as coaches. I think the strength in depth is the one thing that probably stands my team apart from that team."

Denmark provides feel good story of Euro 2020 with unlikely qualification for knockout stages
(CNN)In the space of just nine days, Copenhagen's Parken Stadium played host to Euro 2020's worst moment and then its best.
On June 12, Denmark's midfield talisman Christian Eriksen collapsed during the first half of his country's opening Group B game against Finland and suffered a cardiac arrest.
His distraught teammates gathered around him during the medical staff's prolonged efforts to resuscitate him with CPR and a defibrillator, with players from both teams, as well as fans in the stadium, visibly distressed.
When the match was surprisingly resumed later that afternoon, Denmark fell to a 1-0 defeat to Finland to dent its hopes of reaching the last 16 and any remaining chance of progressing to the knockout stages seemed to disappear with a 2-1 defeat by Belgium.
However, a 4-1 hammering of Russia coupled with Finland's 2-0 defeat by Belgium in the final group game meant that Denmark ended up finishing second in Group B.
No wonder the Danish team, backed by its vociferous fans inside the Parken Stadium and the whole of Denmark, was celebrating its remarkable achievement.
Denmark has a history of upsetting the odds at the European Championships.
At Euro '92, the Danish national team shocked the continent by going on the win a tournament they hadn't even qualified for, but were given a late invitation after Yugoslavia's expulsion.
To this day, it remains the country's greatest sporting achievement.

Trump administration secretly obtained CNN reporter's phone and email records
Washington (CNN)The Trump administration secretly sought and obtained the 2017 phone and email records of a CNN correspondent, the latest instance where federal prosecutors have taken aggressive steps targeting journalists in leak investigations.
The Justice Department informed CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr, in a May 13 letter, that prosecutors had obtained her phone and email records covering two months, between June 1, 2017 to July 31, 2017. The letter listed phone numbers for Starr's Pentagon extension, the CNN Pentagon booth phone number and her home and cell phones, as well as Starr's work and personal email accounts.
It is unclear when the investigation was opened, whether it happened under Attorney General Jeff Sessions or Attorney General William Barr, and what the Trump administration was looking for in Starr's records. The Justice Department confirmed the records were sought through the courts last year but provided no further explanation or context.
A Justice Department official confirmed that Starr was never the target of any investigation.
The seizure of Starr's records is the third disclosure in as many weeks where the Trump administration used its Justice Department to secretly obtain communications of journalists or to expose the identity of critics of former President Donald Trump's allies.
"CNN strongly condemns the secret collection of any aspect of a journalist's correspondence, which is clearly protected by the First Amendment," said CNN President Jeff Zucker. "We are asking for an immediate meeting with the Justice Department for an explanation."
The Obama administration also came under criticism for its heavy-handed tactics toward leak investigations involving journalists. But the Trump administration aggressively pursued leak investigations as the former President frequently railed against the leaks coming out of the government. The latest disclosures appear to show the Justice Department targeting news organizations and social media companies particularly loathed by the former President.

Three Washington Post reporters who covered the FBI's Russia investigation were told earlier this month that last year the Justice Department had obtained their phone records from 2017. In 2018, the Justice Department disclosed it had also obtained 2017 phone and email communications from a reporter for BuzzFeed, Politico and the New York Times who had written stories about Russia.
Court filings revealed last week that the Justice Department under Barr also subpoenaed Twitter in late November 2020 to try to learn the identity of the user behind a parody account that criticized Rep. Devin Nunes, a California Republican and stalwart Trump ally, which Twitter suggested was part of an effort to try to unmask Nunes' critics and chill their speech.
Anthony Coley, DOJ's director of public affairs and a senior advisor to Attorney General Merrick Garland, said in a statement to CNN that the decision to use the legal process to obtain Starr's communications was approved in 2020, during the Trump administration.
"Department leadership will soon meet with reporters to hear their concerns about recent notices and further convey Attorney General Garland's staunch support of and commitment to a free and independent press," Coley said.

The 'headache' Trump left behind for Biden on the White House lawn 2021
The 'headache' Trump left behind for Biden on the White House lawn 2021
(CNN)The project that's currently tearing up the White House's South Lawn initially landed on Donald Trump's desk.
The White House was in need of substantial upgrades to its future security apparatus, updates that would include digging deeply and extensively, from the upper main driveway to the lower, across acres of pristine green grass. Times had changed since the last substantial overhaul of systems, and with the country facing new, known and unknown security threats from various entities, it was paramount the updates happen, the United States Secret Service told the White House, according to two people familiar with the plan who spoke to CNN.
Many workers would be involved, with machinery, temporary gates and plenty of inconvenient closures and re-routes likely to occur, perhaps for several weeks, possibly longer. The United States Secret Service, the National Park Service and the White House worked in tandem to formulate a plan for the massive, multimillion dollar overhaul, one that could be done in phases, so as not to disturb the first family in residence, noted the sources.
The final step of implementation was for the Trump White House's chief usher, Timothy Harleth, to explain the plan to the President and first lady, and then signal to the Secret Service and National Park Service the system was a "go."

But the Trumps weren't so inclined. They didn't want the noise and, Melania Trump in particular, wanted to avoid disrupting the aesthetics on the back lawn, where there could perhaps be events. The first couple decided to "pass it to the next guy," said one of the people familiar. That next guy ended up being President Joe Biden.
The project, which has now been ongoing for several weeks on the south side of the White House campus, is one of the largest in scope and scale at the White House in several years. It has crept up from the farthest southern juncture of the lawn to now just to the foot of the South entrance of the actual White House.
For more than a month now, Biden has had to meet his helicopter, Marine One, on the Ellipse, the park below the South Lawn perimeter of the White House and just north of Constitution Avenue. Marine One has had to land and take off from this not-usual spot because of the construction, and Biden has had to motorcade approximately two minutes from the White House to the Ellipse to depart and arrive, where before he could ostensibly walk out his back door a few hundred yards and board his private transport.
"It's been a headache," said one Secret Service source with knowledge of altered movements to circumvent the construction.

Two arrests made during fan protests outside Old Trafford as Liverpool beats Manchester United 2021
(CNN)After postponing the original fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool with their protests, United fans once again voiced their opposition to the club's owners on Thursday at the rearranged fixture between the two Premier League rivals.
The match was originally scheduled for May 2 but had to be delayed after protests from fans resulted in a group making their way onto the Old Trafford pitch.
On Thursday, fans were once again outside Manchester United's stadium protesting the Glazer family ownership with flares and chants.

Although the game was not disrupted, police confirmed that two arrests were made "relating to public order offenses," and the teams were forced to make adjustments to their pre-match schedules to accommodate the protests.
Manchester United fans holding flares protest against the Glazer family.
United's players arrived at the stadium over seven hours before the start of the game instead of their usual routine of staying at a hotel, choosing instead to have their meal and rest inside the ground.
In the end, Liverpool gained a vital win in its hunt for Champions League football, beating United 4-2 thanks in part to a double from Roberto Firmino.
But United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the disruption to his team's preparations caused by fan protests was not to blame for his side's poor performance in the defeat.
"Once we were in, it was all focus on the game. But it is a different preparation coming in at noon for a quarter-past eight kickoff, it's a long time to be here but I thought the boys managed that well," he told Reuters.
"Of course, it disrupted us a little bit so it's not been ideal but we had to deal with it."

Disney World changes mask requirements for guests 2021
New York (CNN Business)In a major moment for Disney parks, and the theme park industry overall, Walt Disney World changed its mask rules for guests following new guidance from the CDC.
The resort located in Orlando, Florida announced Friday that masks and face coverings for guests will be "optional in outdoor common areas" at Disney World starting on Saturday. The exception being that guests "must wear face coverings from the entrances at all attractions, theaters or transportation and throughout those experiences," the company said.
So that means if you're walking down Main Street, U.S.A., you don't have to wear a mask but if you're riding Space Mountain, you'll still have to.
The news comes after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday that people who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors, except under certain circumstances.
The adjusted safety requirements could have huge ramifications for Disney's attendance numbers and the theme park industry as a whole since Disney parks are an industry leader. And as goes Disney, so usually go other amusement parks.
Universal Orlando Resort, a Disney competitor in Orlando that houses attractions from Harry Potter and Jurassic Park, also announced Friday that it was updating its Covid safety measures. Like Disney's new requirements, it says that masks are not "mandatory" while outdoors but are still "required in all indoor locations including shops and restaurants" and required at all attractions.
Disney's parks and resorts have been an important foundation of the company's media empire for decades. However, the division was hit particularly hard because of the coronavirus pandemic. Following a challenging year that brought extended closures and significant layoffs, the new mask rules, as well as increasing capacities, could have a significant impact on the parks' attendance heading into the vital summer season.

Disney generated more than $26 billion in sales at its parks division in fiscal 2019, the year prior to the pandemic, representing 37% of the company's overall revenue. Returning to those levels would obviously be a boon to not just the parks unit, but all of Disney.
"This is the next step in their recovery," Robert Niles, editor of ThemeParkInsider.com, told CNN Business before the announcement on Friday. "They've built a foundation at the parks that they can expand upon. I don't think you're really going to see the result of that expansion in 2021, but you're going to see the beginning of it."
The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World is the world's most-visited theme park, with more than 20 million visitors in 2018, according to a report by AECOM. The company has invested billions in its theme park division, opening new Star Wars lands in Florida and California in 2019. It's also planning to debut Avengers Campus, a land based on the successful Marvel franchise, at Disneyland this summer.
Disneyland, the flagship resort in California, reopened last month after being closed for more than a year.
Disney (DIS) did not say if and when it would change mask guidance and safety measures at its other parks.

30 heatwave hacks to help you stay cool this summer 2021 NEWS INFOOO hack 2021
How to cool down in a heatwave.
Everyone loves the sunshine, but even the most ardent sun worshippers will agree that an unexpected heatwave can be pretty miserable. If you're tired of tossing and turning all night long and desperate for a good night's sleep or stuck behind a desk all day and melting from heat exhaustion, read our 30 essential heatwave hacks to help you cool down:
1. Drink up
The first rule of heatwave survival is to drink up! Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated - even if you’re not thirsty. Hot weather causes you to sweat, and it’s vital to replenish the lost fluids or you’ll overheat. Dehydration symptoms include dizziness, a dry mouth, lethargy, lack of energy and very dark urine - so keep a chilled water bottle within reach at all times to quench your thirst.
2. Make a cooling compress 2021
A cold compress is a surprisingly simple but effective method to quickly lower your body temperature and help you to cool down. Freeze a damp flannel or tea towel and use it as a cold compress on your neck and forehead to cool you down during the day. Keep a compress on your bedside table at night in case you wake up sweating and need a chill fix.

3. Chill your pillow
If you're lucky enough to own a big freezer, bag up your sheets and chill them during the day to help you sleep comfortably on a sweltering night. Choose thin cotton sheets that don't retain heat rather than a duvet. If your freezer isn't big enough, chilling your pillow cases can be just as effective.
4. Take a lukewarm shower 2021
Taking a cool shower or bath is a great way to bring your body temperature down first thing in the morning or just before bed. However, it's worth opting for lukewarm water over the freezing cold setting. When you take a cold shower, your body works hard to try to warm up again — which can lead you to feel even hotter. According to a 2019 study, warm water actually cools your bloodstream, so take a lukewarm shower to regulate your body temperature more efficiently.
5. Cool your toes
Feet are one of the body's quick-cooling spots and if you focus on chilling your toes it can lower your whole body temperature and help you stay cool, so use a cold damp towel wrapped around your feet for temporary relief or soak your socks in cold water. If you're really suffering, pop your socks in the freezer for 10 minutes for the ultimate toe cooler!

Upgrading security
The last time there was a dig this big was during Barack Obama's presidency, when upgrades were made on the north side of the White House that included similar security measures to the ones happening now, another person familiar with the work told CNN.
"In order to maintain operational security, the U.S. Secret Service does not comment on the means and methods used to conduct the agency's protective operations," a Secret Service spokesperson told CNN when asked about the work on the South Lawn. The White House tolld CNN the South Lawn work is an eight to 10 week project. The National Park Service referred CNN to the Secret Service.
According to contracts obtained by CNN, the majority of the current updates are happening underground, where an extensive route of ducts is being placed. Those ducts have the capability to contain miscellaneous security apparatus, from wiring to cameras to lighting and alternate power sources. The scope of the system includes a swath of White House acreage from 5,000–15,000 linear feet, or about one to three miles. The contract for the bulk of this work was awarded in 2019 to The Whiting Turner Contracting Company for $17.9 million.

The selection of Whiting-Turner to manage and operate the work suggests that there may be sensitive security needs being addressed with this duct-building project, and that behind the tall wooden fences that have been temporarily erected to prevent prying eyes, major technical components are being installed. Whiting-Turner, a construction management and operations corporation with massive federal work already under its belt, has overseen projects for, among others, NASA, the Department of Energy, the Architect of the Capitol, the Executive Residence at the White House, the Justice Department, most branches of the military, and a number of organizations in the national intelligence sphere. Whiting-Turner on its website touts its expertise in "anti-terrorism and force protection" as well as its experience constructing and implementing "classified and top-secret requirements." The company is also proficient in installing "uninterrupted power systems and emergency power," per its website. Whiting-Turner declined comment to CNN on its projects, including the White House contract.

Barack Obama and Marcus Rashford talk about the power of the next generation
"Even if you do something positive on a small scale, that's making a difference, and it's the accumulation of people doing positive things over time that makes us a little bit better with each successive generation."
Obama and Rashford were on the virtual meeting to discuss the impact young individuals can have on society.

Two arrests made during fan protests outside Old Trafford as Liverpool

Making their voice heard
In the wake of the unpopular European Super League (ESL) -- a multibillion-dollar competition consisting of 12 of the biggest teams in European football, in which six of England's top clubs signed up, including Manchester United -- United fans' discontent with the Glazers has intensified.
Although the ESL fell apart less than 48 hours after it was first announced, the lack of fan consultation galvanized many supporters -- not just at United -- who are intent on wresting back some semblance of control of their clubs.
The six founding Premier League members eventually withdrew from the ESL, beginning with Chelsea and Manchester City, following widespread criticism by fans, the media, politicians and even royalty.
The disconnect between the supporters and United's US owners led to huge protests -- which sometimes turned ugly -- outside Old Trafford 10 days ago, with police estimating over 1,000 protesters who invaded the pitch ahead of the match against Liverpool.

"Even if you do something positive on a small scale, that's making a difference, and it's the accumulation of people doing positive things over time that makes us a little bit better with each successive generation."
Obama and Rashford were on the virtual meeting to discuss the impact young individuals can have on society.
From what I've read about what Marcus is doing," Obama explained, "he's taken his own experiences and realized: 'Well, look, I've now been blessed. I now have the good fortune of being this prominent footballer and people pay attention to what I say. How do I give back? How do I take what I know about living in modest means, not having enough to eat all the time -- there are kids like that who are feeling that same way -- what can I do for them?'
"And like Marcus, we all find our own paths to that service. But if enough people do that, that's how progress gets made.
"Marcus is a good example of somebody who was passionate at a sport, excelled in it, it gave him a platform and now he's looking for new challenges alongside it with still being one of the best in his sport."
Besides his professional football career, Rashford has spent a large amount of time in his community in an effort to help build up the confidence of the next generation; something he'd wished he'd had when he was younger.
"I see in the younger kids that they are a lot more confident, they speak a lot more freely," he said.
"And I just want to promote that really. Protecting the next generation, and what I mean by that is let's give them the voice that they actually have because a lot of the time, they do have voice but they don't understand how powerful their voice is and how powerful their opinions are.
"So a lot of the time, I'm just there to listen, and I always try to make changes and try and do things that my community wants just to give them a little push in the right direction. I genuinely feel like if you give someone a helping hand, at a young age, they'll go on to do things even they didn't think or believe was achievable to accomplish."
The power of reading
Obama and Rashford both cite their love of reading as a primary driver in their personal development.
For Obama, his mother was the one who "implanted" the love for reading at a young age. He also recalls a church rummage sale, where he obtained a large number of books which he read and grew to fall in love with.
However, for Rashford, his introduction to reading came a lot later.
He remembers being given a book by a psychologist when he was about 17 years old and discovering his passion for reading then.
And as a footballer, with a lot of down time in between games and training, there is no better way to keep your mind active, according to the United star.
"For me being in sport, I knew my life could change very, very quickly, and if I knew I wasn't mature enough or at a certain level in my own head, then it makes fame and bits like that even more difficult to cope with," Rashford -- who describes it as "surreal" talking to the former U.S. President -- said.
"I got a book passed to me by a psychologist, that was the first book I ever read. And just from then, I started learning through books, you can grow yourself in whichever way you want. And for me, as the type of person I am, rather than somebody keep telling me to do this or do that, books allow me to do it my own way."
