 I had a good birthday. Drove home from my dads house and he is staying at my place for a few days to help on a few more house tasks. The trip was long today since I had a detour from the normal drive to visit a site for work. But that allowed me to stay up there 2 more days and not drive down on parents wedding anniversary, since that is a hard day or dad emotionally being a widower. Other bonus is the cost of gas for my trip to visit family is reimbursable by work since my visit technically qualifies as a business trip as a result.

Been thinking about my birthday coming up and how i’m approaching middle age. The last couple of years is a learning experience in how I can’t do the things that I did when I was younger so easy anymore. There are a few more aches and pains involved due to aging.\

Another thing is being single is starting to get to me a little more too. May just be the idea of being alone is more of a concern now than when I was younger. Its just not being too used to having a girlfriend and very unused to someone interested in me. Not sure how to meet anyone either since online dating sites is something i’m not comfortable with due to my conditions combined with it being not natural to me due to my age, since being a teenager in the 90s dating was all set up the old fashioned way because of none or at the end of decade very limited internet.

Waiting to hear back the results from my virus testing yesterday. I don’t have any symptoms but did it because of my job and the travel elements that occur where I’m flying across the country somewhat regularly. It is as uncomfortable as described in terms of how the test is taken.

Getting tested Saturday morning for the virus. I have no symptoms for the record. Its because I’m a critical infrastructure worker who has to work at times outside of home. Especially considering I have been travelling across the country by plane several times the past 6 weeks. I just got back from flying to Colorado and Arizona and was in Florida two weeks ago. 5-5 weeks ago I was in St. Louis, Boston, and Houston during all of this.

I want to wish my friends the best of health these days, since this is a challenging time for all of us. Just take care of yourselves and look out for each other, especially those who are more at-risk or in areas where there is an outbreak cluster.

Looking back at the decade

Looking back on this year and decade as both end tonight.

2019 was a rather good year overall. Have traveled across the country quite a bit for work and have been exceeding everyone's expectations there. Glad to have seen my sister kick cancer's butt and is healthy. Only downside was a breakup in an August, but we are still very good friends and it was a mutual understanding for various reasons.

As for the 2010s, I started in a very bad spot and ending it grabbing life by the horns and running with it. At the start i was out of work for over 18 months and in a really depressed mood at that time. Moved back to St. Louis from Georgia and found a job in late 2010. Ended up working there 7 and a half years. In that time I got my Professional Engineer license in late 2016 and then in mid 2018 used that to take the next journey in my career and took a new job and moved back to Georgia. My professional career has taken off since then and thankfully have a couple of former coworkers who live near me to help have friends around which was what I was lacking last time so I'm less lonely. Other parts of my life was finally had the first relationship since high school. Only lasted about 20 months but learned a lot from it.

This decade was hard with my mother passing away from breast cancer 4 years ago this coming Saturday. Think about her everyday and wish she could see how my life has taken off in the last couple of years.

Looking ahead to the upcoming year and decade. Well I am planning on getting a house this spring and make further progress in my career. Going to keep grabbing life by the horns and charge forward as I approach middle age. Whatever may come the plan is to make it the best decade yet.

Been waiting for a couple of weeks to get a promotion and raise sorted out. Reason is it that it is tied up in potential legal paperwork. The idea is for me to be named the engineer of record for the company which is a legal term and involves legal and professional responsibilities on my part which is why the raise is there. One thing to sort out to is if as a requirement for that title there is a requirement to have an equity stake in the company which would mean have a small ownership stake in it.

Its been nice spending time with family for Thanksgiving. Especailly being able to visit a week early due to work having something not too far from my family. A fun trip was going on a road trip for the day to a few state parks with dad. Went hiking in one park where it had giant pink granite boulders with the largest the size of a house. Then went to a civil war battle site. Then took my dad out for lunch and then to a park we went camping a number of times when I was a kid. It was nice revisiting old experiences with dad, but a little sad thinking how much fun it would have been if mom was still alive.

In other news got an email a few days ago from my boss wanting to discuss with me a promotion next week and another raise. Idea is to name me the engineer of record for the company which is a legal corporate term.

This time of year is a bit harder on me this year with the breakup a few months ago. I’m not too happy about being single again, in part wondering if anyone could fall for me which has always been a concern of mine. Then again with my personality type these sorts of things are among the biggest challenges i have in my life since i’m not a warm and fuzzy person.

Its been nice that i have been able to be visiting family a week longer for Thanksgiving due to work. Seems like every time i plan on visiting family something comes up in the area that I can pick up and combine with visit. Also get to have my travel costs reimbursed for the trip since it ends up counting as a business trip.

Having a romantic relationship end is not fun. Just need some cheering up as a result. Though, I am still very close friends with her since to be honest I understand her reasons and we did not close the door on something after some personal issues are resolved.

Personal updates

Haven’t been on here in a while. I’ve been busy the last few months with work among other things. Got to visit my family and girlfriend a few weeks ago for Easter which is great.

Next few months may have some very big news in my life in all angles, just nervous as can be on this.

Kicking back and relaxing for my birthday today. Thinking back it has been one of the most impressive years I have had in a long time if not ever. Just in the past year I have started an amazing relationship with someone, found a new job that pays significantly more with a much better career track, and moved far away as a result of this job. The next year may be just as life changing if not moreso the way its going.
