Some of the biggest proof for me that Byler will happen is the amount of effort that was put into Will’s character with such a slow payoff. It’s clear that Will was intended to be gay from the start, but they made a point to keep it ambiguous for four seasons. It is so rare for a story to build up a character’s feelings for someone for this long without it being inherently obvious early on. You just don’t take this much time to flesh out a character if you aren’t going to lead them to the most satisfying ending possible. You don’t write a character like this if you don’t care about them.
