Hello, I’m Will (main blog @write-with-will) and I made an entire writing event bc I wanted fanfic of my OCs /j

Nah, I’m kidding. Writefight is a (hopefully) annual writing trading/gifting event that will take place during the month of January!

There will be two teams, based off of colors (separate post coming soon), which people join. People upload bios of their characters and others write stuff about them!

This is the first time this event has taken place ever, so everything is extremely experimental at this point in time! Constructive feedback is very very much appreciated, and if you run into any issues before during or after participating please let me know so I can address them as soon as possible!

It is based off of Artfight, but I have no direct connection to any of its staff or creators. You do NOT have to have participated in artfight before to participate in this! They are two separate events! Though you will probably have a much better understanding of how this goes if you have TwT

What's the difference between Victorian Fantasy and 'regular' Fantasy? >.> I'm guessing something with low powered tech but I live for gaslamp.

Ling is more of a pseudonym but I do appreciate the sentiment.

Honestly, when I said regular fantasy I just meant something a bit more ambiguous as to when it was taking place. Like medieval fantasy but also not particularly medieval either The technology and fashion and things haven’t and probably won’t really change it’s just not mentioned as much right now. I just don’t think my WIP really screams Victorian. I’m still fairly early on in the writing because my brain loves getting writers block when I actually have free time so there’s a good chance that this will fix itself with time.

Relationships are valued pretty equally, I think. I think romantic relationships would be valued slightly less only because the temple says no sex before marriage and romantic relationships tend to lead to sex more than platonic ones. This is also the same reason why asexuality is seen as good and holy and particularly being aroallo is looked down upon.

Nea and Lan are very important to the Temple and do things like helping people with small errands and taking care of chronically ill people and the elderly. They’re both very altruistic, probably to the point of

Mel is the main character, so she does drive forward the plot quite a bit. But she also does have a fair few things happen to her just because (the Cult of Chaos targeting her for one). She’s probably more altruistic than egotistic by virtue of being the main character trying to save the world. And Vya mostly goes wherever Mel goes so she’s also saving the world I suppose.

Kasha, Eika and Kika aren’t very relevant to the plot until a little bit later but Eika and Kika are probably indirectly responsible for a lot of bad things that happen outside of the main plot because they’re rich people. The twins are definitely more egoistic but 9 times out of 10 they’re not trying to actively harm people

I love reading mentor figure characters. Brooding mentor is all well and good but I don’t think there’s enough appreciation of just chill mentors. A variant of that I also is when Character A tutors Character B. I like that more for romantic relationships because I’m not an age gap person. I think I just like watching characters learn things because I like exploring worldbuilding mostly. I also like friends to lovers but I think that’s the demiromantic in me speaking. As for writing, I like writing established relationships because writing ‘will they won’t they’ shit is just not for me. I do also have a strangers to lovers relationship but that’s not really going anywhere right now and will no doubt be badly paced when I look back on this draft. As for platonic/ familial relationships, I like killing off my MCs families and there isn’t too much weird stuff happening with platonic relationships (apart from the queer platonic polycule I suppose)

Every time I describe what I’m currently writing it gets ever so slightly away from Victorian fantasy and gets just a little bit closer to regular fantasy.

I like writing but I only ever seem to write when I should be doing something else. I had 3 months off of school this year and wrote about 500 words. I love my brain ❤️

This one is quite long, you should’ve never have asked me to explain anything ever actually (this is a joke, please ask me things)

One of the high fantasy’s and one of the urban fantasy’s are set in the world my current WIP is in, just set in the past and set in the future. The first one is a Calypso type story with an MC Goddess who’s stuck on an island who gains a support system. This was mostly inspired by (or really in spite of) EPIC the musical’s iffy portrayal of Calypso and then half the fandom’s absolutely horrible takes in response to that. It would’ve also explored my magic system in detail. 

The second one would revolve around an MC who is trying to ascend to Godhood. That’s really it as of right now, this one was fuelled by my brief hyperfixation on The Herta (A Honkai: Star Rail character) so there were puppets helpers. 

I don’t remember what the second high fantasy idea was (turns out I didn’t write it down) but thinking about it now, one of the ideas would probably count as sort of both high fantasy and urban fantasy since it would span such a long time. It revolved around a Vampire MC who is trying to amass a fortune because they don’t all start off rich but they’re really trying to fit in with the other vampires. It also had Crude oil vampires.

The contemporary one had a Romance Scammer MC nicknamed ‘The Matchmaker’ endeavours to get on of her victims to fall in love with said victim’s close friend so they wouldn’t feel as bad when they’re broke and betrayed. It would feature an aroace MC. 

As for the appeal of it, I just like the secrets of it all. I know urban fantasy doesn’t necessarily have to revolve around a secret magical society (and I actually dislike the plot line of ‘MC needs to hide their new found magic from their normie friends; it’s just not my thing) but something about how a select group of people are constantly manipulating the majority of the population into not thinking twice about the remnants of strange activities they’re always on the cusp of discovering.

I should’ve been more clear, I meant branching out from high fantasy specifically lol

I have a couple of WIP ideas I actually bothered to write down 2 are high fantasy, 2 are urban fantasy and one is just contemporary so I’d say I definitely want to do something more modern after this.
