Female politicians being routinely threatened with rape is unquestionably the most despicable aspect of today’s political climate. Any person with an ounce of decency should be condemning it, clearly and unequivocally.
No woman should ever have to face that level of abuse, and if your attempt at defending them is, “I don’t like her but…” you need to take a fucking good look at yourself. It’s utterly fucking irrelevant what you think of the victim.
Attacks like these will only stop if we create a culture where the condemnation of them is so explicit and unambiguous that these horrific fuckholes actually become fearful of the consequences of their actions.

And he drew love
In the places where he carved the most hate
Slowly
He drew beauty
Over the thin white lines from his past

Smiling at Strangers
When i walk through the door
And i make eye contact
I’ll always smile at you
No matter how im feeling
Because a stranger smiling at you
Is comforting
Smiles are safe
Reassuring
But when i’m walking home
And i go to take the shortcut through the alley
And leaning against a wall smoking a dirty cigarette
Is a stranger with a smile
But it isn’t really a smile
More of a snarl
His sharp teeth glinting in the moonlight
His smile wasn’t comforting
When i run over to the grocery store
My sisters hand held tight in mine
As the man who’s yelling at us to smile
Starts to chase our footprints
He’s yelling im prettier with a smile
And my little sister is so confused why this man is coming home with us
She thinks he’s a friend of mine
She tries to wave at him as i pull her along
We are finally home and i’m locking the doors and closing the curtains
And i have to sit down with her and tell her how this happens all the time
Shes 7
I was too scared to smile
I was in a nursery
Looking for some plants
And i smiled at a man working there
And he followed me over
Talking all about how he had plants
And he shook my hand and held it for just a little bit too long
And he bent down and kissed my hand
And asked how a lady so beautiful looked so alone
And how i didn’t have a husband yet
And all i could do was smile a bit and laugh uncomfortably
And his smile was missing teeth
But it wasn’t a smile
It was a snarl
A baring of fangs
To make me scared
To make me fear him
Because he was a man
And he could do whatever he wanted to me
Because his smile
Made my heart beat so fast in my throat
And he knew it
I forget to smile at men now
Most of them won’t hurt me
But you never know
The kindest smile
Can have the most terrifying snarl
I just want smiles to be safe again
And not a flirtation excuse used against me in court
Now i’m scared to smile
When i’m alone in the street

“I don’t want to die, I just don’t want to exist any more” sounds mild if you’ve never experienced it, but it is in fact a horrible, violent way to feel.
