2023-10-28 Ramana Maharshi Foundation UK: Understanding solipsism as taught by Bhagavan Ramana
————————
eka-jīva-vāda  Means the contention that there is just one jiva, one ego. This is very fundamental in Bhagavan’s teachings; it is implied in so many of Bhagavan’s teachings. For example, this one example out of many, it is implied throughout Uḷḷadu Nārpadu (Reality in Forty Verses), but one place where it is particularly clear is in Verse 26:
If ego comes into existence, everything comes into existence; if ego doesn’t exist, everything doesn’t exist. Ego itself is everything. Therefore, investigating what it is, is giving up everything.
This verse would make no sense if there were multiple egos, because the multiplicity of egos should be part of the «everything» that Bhagavan refers to when he says «If ego comes into existence, everything comes into existence». So, we can make sense of this verse, and so many other teachings of Bhagavan, only if we are willing to accept that a fundamental principle of Bhagavan’s teachings is that there is just one ego. This teaching that there is just one ego is what in western philosophy is referred to a solipsism. However, the solipsism taught by Bhagavan is a very much deeper and more nuanced solipsism. […]
————————
In a Zoom meeting with the Ramana Maharshi Foundation UK on 28th October 2023, Michael James talks about solipsism as taught by Bhagavan, and answers various questions about Bhagavan’s teachings. The analytical set of premises and inferences that he offers for consideration at the beginning this meeting is:
1. We are the experiencer of all that we experience. 2. As the experiencer, we always experience ourself as a person. 3. As the experiencer, we perceive a world that is full of other people, who are just like the person we seem to be. 4. Since we, the experiencer, always experience ourself as a person, every other person seems to us to be an experiencer, just like us. 5. All the other people and their experiences are no less real than the person we seem to be. 6. So long as we seem to be a person, we experience suffering, and every other person seems to us to experience suffering in the same way. 7. So long as we are firmly convinced that this person whom we seem to be is what we actually are, then our suffering and the suffering of all other people will inevitably seem to us to be real.
8. But are we this person? In other words, is this person what we actually are?
9. If this person is not what we actually are, our experience of ourself as ‘I am this person’ is an illusion, and hence unreal. 10. Everything that we (as the experiencer) experience is based upon our experience of ourself as a person, because we experience things other than ourself only when we experience ourself as a person (namely in waking and in dream). 11. Therefore if our experience of ourself as ‘I am this person’ is an illusion, our experience of everything else must be equally illusory. 12. If our experience of everything else is illusory, the person we seem to be and all the other people are a part of that illusion, and hence unreal. 13. If the person we seem to be and all the other people are unreal, their suffering and everything else that they seem to experience must also be unreal. 14. Therefore, since the appearance of multiple experiencers exists in the view of ourself as an experiencer who experiences itself as a person, if we are not this person, then the entire appearance of multiple experiencers is an illusion, and hence unreal. 15. Since there can be no appearance without an experiencer of it, the root cause of the entire appearance of multiple experiencers is the experiencer of it, namely ourself. 16. Therefore, before we can reliably judge the reality of the appearance of multiple experiencers, we first need to investigate and find out the reality of ourself, in whose view all those multiple experiencers seem to exist.

It only takes a couple of pointers and notice what they’re pointing at. The rest is only you complicating what is so simple. Take my word for it.

If there is no yesterday, no last week, no last month, no last year, no last decade, no childhood, no memories and no nothing, then suddenly there are no problems anymore. If there’s only the present moment, the relief is instantaneous 🍃
If none of that defines you, then what are the possibilities? Who are you? What are you?
Surrender everything you’re holding on to. Let it be and let it go. Let the mind run in circles, let the emotions rise and fall like waves. 🌊
What is left is peace 🫧

"Waking up" "everyday" is an illusion. The sole thing that "exists" never sleeps nor wakes up, it is permanently there. This permanent, unchanging, boundless being is Self. Not your Self, not my Self (because duplicity is an illusion) but just SELF.
This is a dream.

Do you have a face?
Tumblr media
In the quiet, let yourself unfold,
No strings attached, no stories told.
Nothingness floats in a space so bold,
In the vast silence, where dreams are strolled.
In the hush, explore the open sky,
Silence paints the canvas, oh, so high.
Nothingness like clouds passing by,
In the endless void, where true selves lie.
No limits, just a gentle grace,
Dissolve within, find your peaceful space.
In the void's embrace, feel the warm embrace,
Nothingness whispers, revealing your trace.
In this stillness, do you have a face?

No states, No stages
Tumblr media
"""Realization""" doesn't take 82638282 steps. You don't go through any "states" of anger, sadness, indifference or whatever you can come up with. Every concept, explanation, justification is baseless and imagined. What you are, is " " and " " doesn't go through any imagined "stages" or "states", just the "person" you think you are SEEMINGLY does but that's just imagination and unreal. "States" come and go. What you are is the effortless Knowing behind them that doesn't go through any ""states"" whatsoever

“I am aware, but I feel…” -> Who is the one that feels? Is there someone that feels? What is aware of this feeling? What is this feeling in the end?
“I am aware, but I think…” -> Who is the one that thinks? Is there someone that thinks? What is aware of this thought? What is this thought in the end?
“I am aware, but I doubt…” -> Who is the one that doubts? Is there someone that doubts? What is aware of this doubt? What is this doubt in the end?
“I am aware, but I fear…” -> Who is the one that fears? Is there someone that fears? What is aware of this fear? What is this fear in the end?
“I am aware, but I do…” -> Who is the one that “does”? Is there someone that does anything? What is aware of this “doing”? What is this “doing” in the end?
“I am aware, but I want…” -> Who is the one that wants? Is there someone that wants? What is aware of this wanting? What is this wanting in the end?
“I am aware, but I try… “ -> Who is the one that tries? Is there someone that tries? What is aware of this trying? What is this trying in the end?
“I am aware, but I see…” -> Who is the one that sees? Is there someone that’s seeing? What is aware of what is being seen? What is this “that is being seen” in the end?
Ponder on these questions and how repetitive it is. Question it all and see how you always end up with the same “thing”: NO-THING. Notice it yourself.
NoBODY feels, thinks, doubts, fears, does, wants, etc. YOU are aware of these seeming things, this illusion. They’re all equally illusionary, but at the end they’re nothing at all. No-THING is!
The only thing left is “I am aware”, but who is this “I” in the end…?
“ ”.

Wym by experience it as an unfolding present moment 🤟🏻🥹 is it like a knowing that a seeming appearance will surely unfold into the present moment ?
It means exactly what it says. It IS an unfolding moment within "Self" as "Self".
Omnipresent - present everywhere simultaneously.
Omniscient - having infinite awareness, understanding, and knowledge of all things.
Omnipotent - having unlimited power or authority.

but why the things I “daydream” about are not long lasting as this experience I am having? For example: I am a studient who gets up, goes to school, eats and studies every day. But let’s say one night I lay down and daydream about being another persone doing different things. Why this illusion doesn’t become the one like the illusion of the student? For the illusion of the student I don’t have to imagine. For the other one yes. I feel delusion as I am escaping a boring reality doing just pure daydreaming.
it's all you !!! you're responsible of that. aren't you the one being aware of one experience being permanent while one is a daydream ?
change that. there's nothing above you, no rules that you have to fold to, you are making the rules for yourself and that is it.

Hello! I love your blog so much. Lots of humor and sarcasm, I love it! I also liked your analogy with the branches of trees and I would like to ask another question…Really, I'm sorry! everything is " ", I understand. I'm watching one branch, it's imaginary. similarly, I'm watching the second imaginary branch where I'm a fucking superman who's dating the most beautiful girl in the world. There is no difference between the branches, everything is an illusion, and I know that I am superman, this is a preference. But I wake up with the same illusory person, the first branch. wtf, why? I just don't agree with it, like, kamon, I'm superman, I don't care what those illusory eyes see. But it's like persevering, damn, I don't want to persevere! I came from loa and I'm sick of it. Damn, I'm the only power and priority, I decide to wake up as superman, but I see another illusion, do I just kind of not believe in it and continue to be superman?
Hello superman ! I m glad you appreciate my humor 🤍
Now the problem is you think you are a branch when you're the tree. Stop thinking you're that one undesirable branch ! Stop identifiying with an illusion !

->Here's the thing 👁️
The misconception of something "not working" is because you think there is "an ego" here to obtain something.. there isn't. The ego doesn't truly exist; it's just an illusion. You, as "THAT", already have everything you seemingly desire because nothing exists beyond "THAT"/you. It's an illusion that blinds your eyes, preventing you from seeing that you are already what you seemingly seek. Don't believe the "observer" is here, and the "observed" is there. The "observer" doesn't exist; everything is "THAT".
No one is observing; there's only the seemingly "observed".
How do you know you're seemingly perceiving something through "senses"? Isn't it because you were aware before interpreting it as "seeing, feeling, smelling, etc"? You think you're seeing, but no one is; it's just the "image" seeing itself. You think you're hearing, but no one is; it's just the "sound" hearing itself. It's all "THAT". Nothing is happening to you because there is no "body" here; you are the "screen", and these appearances happen "within" "THAT", on "THAT", AS "THAT".
You simply exist
FULLSTOP.
And you know that, even without "senses".
"IT" does not need confirmation of existence through five senses; they are not what you perceive any experience with. Transcended them and this world. You lose the illusion of being here or there, trying to find your place; you only experience a still, unmoving existence. Even if the "illusory body" moves, you know you are still, becoming a stationary space allowing things to move within. Because you are not the body; the body is within you. Everything "you want" is there, on yourself; it can truly be felt you're not here because you're not the body. You'll realize you are the formless, nameless source of everything you seem to desire. You don't need to search or wait for another experience which is "THAT"; you are "THAT" now. This is the present truth."
