During Roy’s play-through of Persona 4…

Pit: So, you go into TV’s and stop murders?

Roy: Pretty much. You can also romance people, but I would highly recommend to NEVER touch the harem route. Little Mac did that and he was depressed for weeks. It hits the emotional cords unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

Pit: Yikes.

Roy: Cool! I got Kanji’s persona! Kanji joins the team!

Pit: Wait, did the boss just become his persona?

Roy: Yeah. You see, the versions of themselves they see in the TV world are their shadows. Their shadows are their deepest parts of themselves that they bottle up and hide from the world. We fight because they deny that part of themselves, and essentially lie about it. Once we beat the boss, the person will accept the shadow as a part of their character and grow as a person. Not only that, but the shadow will turn into their persona.

Pit: Woah. So that’s how it works.

Roy: I’m surprised you haven’t tried it with Dark Pit.

Pit: Pittoo?

Roy: Well, he’s the personification of all your deepest thoughts. He’s basically you, right?

Pit: No he’s not! Sure, the mirror of truth made him and Pandora said he was my innermost thoughts given human form, and we look the same, but that doesn’t mean he’s me!

Roy: So what you’re saying is, he isn’t you?

Pit: Exactly.

Roy: Wow. That’s the same thing everyone else in Persona 4 said. Then we had to fight their shadows since they kept lying to themselves.

Pit: I said it isn’t like that!

Roy: Are you sure? I mean, you fought Dark Pit before haven’t you?

Pit: Yeah.

Roy: And before that, you said that he doesn’t come from any part of you? Essentially saying “You’re not me!”?

Pit: Yeah…?

Roy: So…how do we know?

Pit: ….

(Later…)

Dark Pit, on the floor: Pitstain, let go of me!

Pit, clinging onto him: Pittoo, I accept you! Now become my Persona!

Dark Pit: What?! Let go of me, you numbskull!

Palutena, watching from a distance: ….(sips tea)

Joker: Should…we do something?
