Hello I’m new to color theory so quick question for the art community,

I’m doing a painting of the photo above 👆.

What color would I use for the background of this photo to make it pop? I’m trying to do it kind of realistic but not too realistic. It’s going to be a little more colorful in comparison to the reference photo.

I’m trying out a few different painting methods to see what I like. For example Acrylic, Gouache, Watercolor, and Pastels.

its so difficult to draw anatomy. and objects. and backgrounds. and clothing. and colors. and lighting. i honestly dont know how i ever managed to draw anything in my entire life

The worst feeling is realizing how heavily you’ve internalized capitalism’s idea that a craft isn’t worth doing if you’re not making money off it. You’re allowed to write, draw, play music, make artsy candles, dabble in carpentry, whatever the hell you want to do, even if you can’t make it a livelihood. It’s still worth doing.

Small artists you need to understand that when you see an artist who you think has 'made it' tells you not to worry about the numbers and to not fret about getting more likes than reblogs they are not telling you it because they think you are stupid for caring or because they dont need to network to survive they are very likely telling you that because they have witnessed first hand the way the numbers game tears people to shreds in terms of mental health and motivation

So earlier in art class today, someone drew a characters hands in their pockets and mentioned that hands are really like the ultimate end boss of art, and most of us wholeheartedly agreed. So then, our teacher went ahead and free handed like a handful of hands on the board, earning a woah from a couple of students. So the one from earlier mentioned how it barely took the teacher ten seconds to do what I can’t do in three hours. And you know what he responded?

“It didn’t take me ten seconds, it took me forty years.”

And you know, that stuck with me somehow. Because yeah. Drawing a hand didn’t take him fourth years. But learning and practicing to draw a hand in ten seconds did. And I think there’s something to learn there but it’s so warm and my brain is fried so I can’t formulate the actual morale of the lesson.
