I haven't been active in either the Satogou or Tokigou communities in quite a few years so I don't really know what's going on here..

however, from what you said, yeah. that sounds like extreme mischaracterization and demonization of a character just to push a ship, which is usually always pretty awful

and as fanon interpretations can often change people's opinions on characters, it's definitely important to point out that Tokio isn't like that in canon at all

in canon, the incident between him and Goh was a misunderstanding due to Tokio getting sick and having no way to tell Goh about it. when they later reunite both of them are happy about it and quickly rekindle their past friendship and become proper supportive friends to each other throughout project mew

I understand people can write whatever they want in fanfics but it's important to keep characters recognisable as the same character and demonizing a character just to push a ship is just horrible writing

to the people who do that, please remember breakups can be amicable, you could have Tokigou break up in your fic then after a while of maybe avoiding each other out of awkwardness, have them grow close as friends again and have Tokio support Satogou or you could even go down the route of a poly ship and have Satokigou?

I'm sure there are better options for characters Goh would have a toxic breakup with than Tokio, who is one of the sweetest characters in Journeys and one of Goh's most supportive friends.

(may I remind you, Tokio was willing to decline a battle so Goh would win by default and get the project mew tokens even though Tokio also needed them too JUST to support his friend. and even though this suggestion was rejected and was framed as a bad one by the narrative, it still shows how much he cares about Goh)

again, I haven't seen any of this for myself aside from remembering a few fics I read about three years ago now, but please if this is still happening, pokeani fandom please treat Tokio better, rewatch the episodes he appears in and remind yourself that he's Not Like That in canon

Actually I have another question, why do some parts of the SatoGou fandom treat and write Tokio/Horace as if he destroyed Goh's life?

In Canon he was sick, it's not like people can control illnesses...

Also, why is Tokio/Horace always the one who gets bullied, who dumps Goh, who hurts Goh's feelings, and end to be with characters with internalized homophobia?

He is treated as someone so sweet in Canon... I'm not 100% satisfied with the drama because most of the time his abusive relationships are not even resolved by the writers, just this...is there as a plot device to draw Goh away from Horace/Tokio and TokiGou

I'm not saying you shouldn't write however you want, but at least present solutions to get Tokio out of these bad relationships that are no good for anyone.
