Anakin having beef with a literal child in Cal centric time travel fics will never not be hysterical, even if it feels out of character to me.

I just feel it in my bones that Anakin, meeting a freshly time-traveled Cal, would notice his extremely concerning behavior and the weird shit Cal says that sets off Anakin’s trauma specific alarm bells not long after meeting him like.

honestly the "robin to an evil batman" is the best way anyone's described their dynamic and i love it. that's how i'll be envisioning it from now on. definitely will write more shenanigans surrounding them and not just plain angst (though, angst will likely often follow i love angst)

and oh that's perfect. it's giving me more ideas for how to really expand on cal's dynamic. with him not just being a secret apprentice (though reluctantly) and something along the lines of an imperial assistant of sorts as to hide the truth from palps. i don't think he'd suspect vader even has ulterior motives (he's so sure he's got him firmly on a leash), especially not by using a boy who palpatine doesn't even consider a threat. so imperial galas are a must -- especially ones where vader goes off and deals with some business while cal stands off to the side in a fancy little suit, grabbing as much fancy food as he can because what was that kid even eating on bracca lmao.

Fallen Order AU where Cere is killed and Cal is taken by Darth Vader with the intention of making him an Inquisitor. But when Cal’s psychometric abilities are revealed, Vader has a different plan in mind, one that causes certain truths and revelations to come to light. Cal didn’t know what he was getting into when he showed Vader what he saw through those echoes, but he really didn’t sign up to accompany said Sith Lord while he went through a midlife crisis.

Essentially, Vader finds out the truth about how Palpatine lied to him and how Padmé really died and also the fact that he has twins out there somewhere and decides “fuck palpatine” and drags a bewildered Cal - who becomes his unofficial apprentice of sorts - with him as he plots a way to take the emperor down and also, find his kids.

Also a Darth Vader redemption of sorts. He’s still a pretty shitty guy at the start and his whole reason for wanting to kill the Emperor is solely to avenge Padmé. He also has some murderous intent towards Obi-Wan for hiding his children from him and also, leaving him to burn. He’s in the mindset of believing that he wasn’t at fault and blames others for everything that happened, including his actions. But gets a hard wakeup call from Cal when he shows him just how shitty things are and what the Empire, what he has done and finally thinks “oh, I’m the problem” and from then on his slow redemption starts as he sets out on attempting to repair the damage done as he starts back on the rocky path towards the light. He also trains Cal, who at first goes “fuck that and fuck you” but eventually the two become a duo. Like Vader and Starkiller if Vader was going through a crisis, stumbling through a path of redemption and Starkiller was his tired, annoyed, unofficial apprentice who was unwillingly dragged along for the ride.

fireangerpainpainpain the smell of burning flesh so intense that Cal shot up in terror and promptly slammed against the floor, the coldness of the metal was a stark contrast to the remnants of flame still clinging to charred skin, he flinched away from it instinctively as he attempted to pull himself up. It took him several moments to convince himself that he in fact wasn't on some fire planet, limbs hacked off and his flesh burningburningburning yet the agony of the echoes still clung to him, relentlessly. As did the fire within, that sickening rage that had consumed his entire being alongside all that fear and desperation, the extent of which he'd never felt before.

No, he wasn't in the memory, he wasn't burning, he wasn't Anakin Skywalker.

Kriff -- he thought, shaking away the haziness of the vision, the revelation hitting him full force now that he was conscious. Anakin Skywalker, The Hero With No Fear, one of the most well known Jedi Knights to ever fight in the Clone Wars was Darth Vader, merciless Sith Lord, the Empire's Fist. The information, added with the echoes of his memories still lingering in his mind was overwhelming, he thought he'd nearly pass out again with how much his head was spinning and the absolute agony his body was currently still in.

His head was pounding with a headache so intense it was like his skull was being split in two, his limbs twitched every so often as he still felt the fire crawling all over his skin, he could still smell the remnants of burnt flesh and bile rose in his throat yet thankfully nothing came up this time. He found his throat was also burning, though for a different reason, he'd screamed himself hoarse while being dragged through Vader's memories -- so much pain, to be left for dead in such a state, it was a miracle he'd even survived at all.

Finally, Cal managed to look past the pain for a moment, he surveyed the room with a squint – he didn’t even need any more confirmation for he already knew he’d been taken hostage and thrown in some cell where he’d either rot away or be broken beyond the salvation of the Light. Well, he’d be sure to die before he even came close. But that foreign rage, so ugly and twisted, lingered like smoke in his chest, tightening around his lungs and making it difficult to breathe. It was not his own but it sure felt like it. He’d never had so much trouble separating himself from echoes like this before, it was almost startling, usually he could shake them off nearly instantly.

He didn’t want Vader’s pain nor did he want whatever darkness of his, which he could feel lurking within. It made him feel uncomfortable in his own skin, feeling an itch just below the surface that he couldn't quite reach, that made him want to dig his way through flesh and bone until he clawed it out. He hated every moment that passed. The silence was unbearable, the isolation even worse though he didn’t necessarily mind that, likely the only visitor he’d get would be the Sith Lord attempting to break his spirit through immense torture both of the physical and mental kind. It was that which he feared would soon come, he wasn’t sure how long he’d been unconscious for or how much time had passed since waking for that matter, he was still too torn between the past and the present that the passage of time was something forgotten to him.

So he stayed there, curled up in the corner of the room with his knees drawn to his chest and his gaze fixed unblinkingly on the door. The air felt far too warm, he hated how his robes clung to his skin, the feeling of the rough fabric felt heavy, if he let himself slip back into the echoes it almost felt like he was buried within the ashy hills of the planet he’d seen in Vader’s memories and he despised it, he despised feeling what he’d felt. He wanted nothing to do with the imposing presence haunting him like the ghost of his own memories he carried. No, he'd never had such trouble shaking off an echo before, there was something so visceral about Vader's memories, such pain that it left a permanent scar on his psyche.  

There was nothing he could do to even occupy himself from the onslaught of intruding memories that assaulted his mind. So he waited in agitation for something to happen. On one hand, he despised being alone right now, especially with Vader's memories replaying in his mind like a broken holo-video. On the other hand, however, he feared the Sith Lord's inevitable visit more so than the latter. To be broken beyond repair and twisted into a weapon unrecognizable to even himself, he'd had several nightmares about such a thing coming to pass. 

He never knew what it felt like to Fall, nor did he ever want to find out. But he often wondered exactly how someone did Fall. In Vader's memories — Anakin Skywalker had dove right into the unforgivable darkness, swayed by the promise of power great enough to save his beloved from what he feared most. Death. He'd Fallen, though with hesitation. Inquisitors were broken, tortured relentlessly, without mercy until they snapped and gave in, just like Anakin had. 

Cal wondered when he’d be part of the countless number of Jedi who had been pushed to Fall.
