Day 59
It’s kind of amazing that this MCAT CARS journey will end exactly in 60 days, well, I know it is more than that haha but its a nice number.
Today is just AAMC! To keep me at peace.

JW Vancouver
Okay. Last JW exam is overrrrrr. And I didn’t do bad...I missed 14 questions...I think the best I have ever done on JW was only missing 13. So I end on a good note(but of course with the idea that i can do even BETTER on test day <33). The first half of the passages were a little hard to follow/boring but let’s see what happened.
Okay, so for the first question. I had the right logic and was trying to find an answer that reflected the passage...but I should went a little deeper and even though all answers seemed wack. Pick the one...that requires least logic.
So I know this mostly was due to not reading as closely and not having the main idea down...but regardless need to get better at not only reading closely, but scanning back efficiently.
nomad -traveler
shaman - healer
Jack really out here making inferences on inferences...yooooo lol
When in doubt, main idea. What is the most important thing. Picture the author. Also, and I know this is really hard to do when I’m running out of time, but rereading helps.
reprehensible - disgraceful
When answering what the author would most likely approve of questions...think about the main idea and how it is set up...and make sure that your answer is not adding bits of logic
customary - accepted
With passages that I am not as comfortable with, with main idea questions (and in general) always go for what the author discusses more of in each paragraph.
Careful with reading precisely...and if not 100% sure, always better to quickly double check
Remember homie Kaplan, don’t just match words, match meaningssss
Trust your gut and ask yourself if this answer is adding logic.
I’m proud of myself. This test definitely had a wide variety of topics that I am not comfortable with...philosophy, art, archaeology, politics, literature, history...and I did well. The major thing is that sometimes I picked an answer cause it was familiar, and I really need to have the main idea solid, read precisely, and not just match words but match meanings!! And not add logic. Not discussed? Move on. It was so easy to add logic to the neuro passage lol, and I missed three questions on that passage...so I really need to be careful. BUT I CAN DO THIS!

Day 58
Weeeeeee. The baby Sunday anxiety creeped its way in again last night...this time with chemphys lol. But just need to breathe. Remember, even when I’m studying BB...I’m also studying CP because of biochem!! It is a win win. And...don’t take time away from CARS. This is precious time that I need.
Okay, leeegggo.
Old AAMC
elusive - difficult to find
allusion - an indirect or passing reference
Okay, so I missed one question because I didn’t know what elusive was. And know I do!! Difficult to find.
conviction - belief
taxing - demanding
But!! Ya girl still did well!! 6/7 <33
Okay...so the second passage was definitely harder for me than the first. It’s about tortoise research...let’s see.
reclusive - isolated
Stay within the scope of the passage! My answer choice, “tracking species that are obscure” should have been “tracking tortoises” forever crying lol.
There was a big old fat question that stumped me...but I understood it now that I read Kaplan’s description. It’s okay...I was running out of time so I just need to get better at understanding it the first time.
So I was stumped on this question too...since all the answers seemed reasonable and I couldn’t find the answer while scanning back. But the clue was to look for “the study’s importance” in paragraph 1. When stressed, definitely scan the first and last paragraphs for the author’s main voice.
reconnaissance - survey
Okay, so I didn’t do so hot on this passage. And it is okay! I missed three. But remember, be as specific when possible, (aka don’t add logic) and remember, efficient looking back at the passage and precise reading are key.
Ooooffff this third passage was tricky too....let’s see. It was about a dude who debunks magicians...okay.
My answer choice was wrong...because the author does mention a few times that testimonials can be completely wrong, so saying that they “are useful only as indicators of individual consumers’ satisfaction...” would not be accurate since the author never mentions this.
Also, I need to get better at picking up the key words that an author uses to describe someone or something...as this shows tone. The author mentioned “fraud” so this would have been most in line in calling the person unethical.
charlatan- fraud
sleight - cunning
Okay. So I also missed a question cause I didn’t take the correct answer choice into consideration cause it had “sleight”...and I should have followed my gut and noticed the author’s use of psychic powers” in quotations because he doesn’t believe in them! So...just need to be careful, always.
amenable - open
Not gonna iie, I’m sad that I missed three questions on this passage too. It leaves me uneasy but also reminds me how crucial it is to close read and pick up tones... cause these passages weren’t necessarily hard to follow, but it was the specific tones that I should have picked up as well. But I can definitely do this. Need to breathe and read like my life depends on it.
AAMC
latitude - freedom
stasis - equilibrium
Okay. I know today hit hard. But remember that the biggest thing is reading precisely and taking mental notes of the author and his or her tone, which sometimes may not jump at me so I need to use the context and key words. Pushing test day won’t help with this, remember. It’s about using these next few days to just read precisely, and after test day, I can be a sloth.
Okay, Tumblr, so this crazy girl decided to do her last two (hopefully two, maybe I won’t find the answers to the last one) passages today instead of Thursday since they are crazy earth science ones...and I didn’t want to stress myself out even MORE on my last full study day....I know, I’m weird...but I’m feeling better now that I am digesting and I heard back from Martha so I can stay with her before test day and I heard back from Gladys and AAMC about my letters so I think these are all signs from God so ya girl has to KEEP GOING <33
This was a hard, weird ass dinosaur passage so..ahemm
So I definitely freaked out with the first question cause if the earliest pareiasaurs could be exchanged with the turtles...but my answer was totally off too...so I should have went with the turtles...
Yeah, I missed three. It brings me happiness that there won’t be any natural science passages on Sat...but there may be boring history ones, economy ones...so ya girl needs to be wired. I need to concentrate and not freak out like I did here...and read QS carefully.
Okay, so last AAMC passage!!! Felt better about this passage than the last three passages lol. So...I hope my score shows that...anyway
Lol so my ass thought that the question type was new info and brought in a dinosauur...should have scanned back to the passage to check lol, and I had the extra time!! Be wary about everything on test day. BUT YAY YA GIRL ONLY MISSED ONE QUESTION <33333333333333 I CAN DO THIS. NO LOOKING BACK. READING PRECISELY AND NOT ADDING LOGIC FTW

JW Chicago
Like I told myself...ya girl is not mulling over this score. Since people in the comments are already complaining...I did better than San Diego so that is something lol. And I quickly scanned the comments for the other JW exams that I did better in...and yep, people didn’t think they were as hard as this one...so issss okay. Let’s see what happened.
Remember, remember, remember. Don’t add logic. The author mentions tennis...but that does not allow me to generalize to “all sports”
When Jacky starts his reasoning with “C sounds random...” lol but in all seriousness, I remember feeling stumped answering this question and I should have went back to that paragraph and picked the answer with the least logic.
mystique - charisma
When answering point of view questions...be careful of when to draw the line of someone vs the author
Okay...and I also need to be careful with wording...if it sounds odd it is worth reading again and trying to see if it is really saying what I am thinking it is
Yoooo Jack be adding some logic over hereeeee...ni modo.
peril - danger
invigorate - full of energy
Remember, an answer containing the overall, complete main idea is better.
invoke -call on
For assumptions, remember, you want to pick the answer that HAS to be true for the passage argument to not break apart.
Remember to be careful with generalizing...have to make sure that the answer is specifically mentioned in the passage in order for it to be correct! I think this is what happened last test day...so I really need to tell myself, was this mentioned? Am I adding logic???? SCERRI voice ugh lol
fascism - a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, as well as strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.
Even if an answer seems wrong...go with what is most supported. Don’t dwell. omg..is CARS supposed to teach something to me?? lol
undergird - secure or fasten

AAMC FL3
Feeling anxiety about testing this Sat...but I have to be honest with myself and I know if I push this test(and I honestly can’t... anymore) but even if I did, I don’t think it would help that much because I would be doing more JW and more outside material so that probably would still leave me the same. So this week, I promise to practice precise reading because that will be the best thing I can do. I’ve scored 125 before so it. is possible. Just need to remember to not freak out and let this baby anxiety take over. I need to use it for optimal performance. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.
Let’s see what these three questions were so I can get a better idea of what questions I am missing.
astute - sharp
cathartic - cleansing
pernicious - harmful
rhapsodizing -speak or write about someone or something with great enthusiasm and delight
bardic - recitation of stories
squalor - filth
I need to be careful with question stems!!!! Everytime I see “if assumed to be true” highlight that shit!!! I always miss this question lol. If I am having a hard time answering...it’s probably for a reason and I need to reread either the QS or the place I am directed to.
The other question that I missed had to do with remembering that the main argument involved with a reward...so it would be assumed that most people would want it since it is a reward. And the last question I should have been careful because I added logic...so I need to remember this morning.

Day 57
Wowzers. 57 days. Took my last practice exam and have not received a cancelation from AAMC...so this is really happening and I told myself that I’m going to push these last few days. Just give it my all...because I’ll be done soon!!!! Push and push and not let Mr. Jack get in my head because I did well in AAMC #2 and AAMC#4 and yesterday’s so! I got this. Will just pay attention to the types of questions I am missing in these last few days.
Old AAMC
So I did that thing with Steve called, arguing with semantics. And Kaplan told me..well not me, but in the answers, “Don’t just match words, match meanings.” The answer that I picked had bits of correct info..but radiation was never mentioned. I do this a lot. Will be more aware. Also, I was a little confused by the question...and once I reread it right now...it makes more sense. I misunderstood it the first time around. And I had a little bit of time left...so I need to get better under pressure. Which is why ya girl is doing two Jack W’s soon lol.
Also, I got another question wrong because I relied too much on the question and should have reread where it redirected me and I might have noticed that it was discussed again in P7!! Kaplan says, “Remember, all correct answers are based on info in the passage!” Yessss. My answer was adding logic.
But! I got 4/6 so I did well, good job <3
Baby uworld
Okay, I also missed two in baby uworld. And that’s okay! Have to remind myself that it’s totally okay to miss two on harder passages. That is the goal on test day lol. It was a weird linguistics passage oof lol.
When you are confused, try rereading (if you have time) if not...moving on.
Be careful with adding logic too. My answer might have seemed right with one side of the argument...but not entirely. But it’s okay...only 30ish percent got that answer right lol. I did better than average though!!! haha
My iced coffee is literally making me shake lol. Okay, JW!
Not excited for this Confucian essay...but ya girl needs the practice....
Should have been careful...my answer was too strong! “a new understanding” was never mentioned! And with that...personal growth was not mentioned either. Spirit was not mentioned either!! Really really need to be like, “Was this mentioned? No? Okay. Wrong.”
Missed three...but understandable. It was hard but I realized that I got my answers wrong on stuff that was out of scope. Out of scope. Like Kaplan says Manuela, “Remember, all correct answers are based on info in the passage!”

Day 56
It’s wild, 56 days of me writing in this little blog of hopes and dreams. Anyway...lol old AAMC where u at?!
Weeeee ya girl got 100% on the first two passages <3333 Dat’s how I like it.
barring - except for
Passage 3:
Okay. So this rain passage was harder for me than the last two passages. So...remember, read precisely. Even when you want to freak out and don’t add logic...don’t overthink ahh haa. Take your time because you will miss the answer right in in front of you.
It’s okay though! I missed two. And I could have answered those questions correctly if I took a deep breath and thought logically and didn’t panic. Don’t panic Manuela, you can do this. It’s all you. Just need to figure out the passions of these authors haha.

Day 55
Oh my goodness. Just did JW exam: San Diego. And. I. Did. Bad. Lol. Got a 52%...not even going to convert it because I know that it would make me feel bad...okay I feel better now that I found other people on reddit say the same about this exam. Remember, Manuela, that I can’t let little boy JW get into my head. All that matters is that I did well on AAMC #2 and #4 and I will do go good on test day. This is just, the necessary hard practice. And I don’t feel bad so...it’s all good.
Let’s review this...haaaa
For the first passage that was about communism....really need to read precisely to get more questions right. But didn’t do so bad, only missed 3/6 hehe. Remember to not add logic too.
At least with JW questions...try to avoid answers that are a little vague...without adding logic Ay Dios Mio...haha
Careful with questions that are asking for other viewpoints than the author’s!
bearing - relation
placid - calm
subliminal -subconscious
So...when you have two answers that provide examples/support, always go for the example that is closer to the main idea = JW logic
Also, when not sure if I am adding logic, take a deep breath and reread. Trust your gut on these.
Yeah these passages were hard...but I just need to read precisely and that will help me understand the main argument...and AAMC won’t be as tricky or detailed as my homeboi Jack.

Day 54
Oldie AAMC
surmise - suspect
Okay. I think this happened yesterday too. Even though a question might seem that it is new info, if it is asking for author’s insight = main idea. Don’t add logic. “Suppose that...Which of the following is the author most likely to present?”Not using the main idea would mean adding logic.
But I did well on the first passage!!! Missed one <33
2nd passage
Couldn’t find the answers for passages 2 and 3 </3 but that’s okay. Off to Jack.
JW
Feel a little uneasy with this Baroque Art passage....hehe
Read precisely. I know, I know, working on it.
deduce - conclude
Not bad!! I missed two on this passage <3 Keep reading precisely Manuela. And watch out for those questions author questions. Think of the author. What will he be super passionate about!
AAMC
scant -little
articulate -eloquent

Day 53
OLD AAMCCCC
baron - feudal lord
impartial - fair and just
perjury - false testimony
Remember, if a question stem asks for something that “most clearly conflicts” this is not posing new information and you want something that represents the passage! No adding logic.
antics - foolish behavior
magnate - lord
Also, remember, even if you are frazzled. Think of the main idea. The author would most disagree with something he or she is passionate about. I got this. I got this. I got this. Regardless! I did well for a hard passage about history, only missed two! So that is all I can ever want on test day (crying emoji) and then get a passage where I only miss one of course lol.
2nd passage
When answering this question, I was uneasy with a part of the answer...and that shouldn’t happen. So when this happens, take a deep breath and think of the main idea. Reading the answer explanation made it make sense.
When asked for a comparison / example...try to reason it out a bit. Not just what directly comes to society, but especially in the passage, how this will affect society. Main idea, always.
Yayy okay only missed two questions on this one too. Just need to be more comfortable breathing and relating to the main idea.
Third passage
When answering questions, try to pick the answer that would be most representative...this is always hard cause sometimes its more general and sometimes it is a little more specific.
Try to read precisely. Oh my goodness that passage was awful. I missed four...but it is okay. Need to be comfortable with the uncomfortable, luckily I won’t see any earth science passages so....that comforts me haha.
AAMC
vice - wrongdoing
debauchery - corruption

NS FL 4
Oh my goodness that was so hard...I got a handful of “wtf” passages but ya girl still managed a 125 (forever crying emoji). So it is okay. I know AAMC will not be this hard, some questions and answer choices, and passages were ridiculous. Just have to keep going.
Be careful with reading “new information” always.
Like I mentioned a couple of days ago...if a question asks me to go to a certain paragraph, but the main idea is one of the answer choices, go for that answer. Let me do some investigating on these type of questions real quick. With “most likely” questions...go for the main idea, the bigger purpose.
From today’s NS:
The author most likely quotes Alan Horn in the third paragraph in order to:
AAMC FL2: Why does the author most likely mention “the role of chance” (paragraph 4)?
Old AAMC: “The discussion of the history of the word...is primarily intended to support the author’s claim...
Interesting. Okay. I’ll watch out for this verbiage and if I am confused best believe I will hit up Steve.
Like I have mentioned a billion times...better to be safe than sorry and take a glance back to reaffirm my beliefs...cause ya girl read that line too fast and was wrong.
nuance - a subtle difference
concession - compromise
precedent - example
qualm - doubt
larceny - theft
specious - seemingly logical, but actually misleading
facetious - treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant.
When the answer choice seem bogus and I’m freaking out, watch out for the author’s tone in the passage and pick an answer that flows with it! Wild stuff that NS is throwing at me lol.
I need to be careful with answering questions too quickly, even when under lots of pressure with a weird Russian passage. I need to be careful and take a deep breathe. Will definitely practice on this in these last less than two weeks haha.
Okay so they threw in another public health passage that listed all of their goals and blah blah and that freaked me out last time...it did this time too. And I’ll try really hard to read precisely and not freak out with all of the content, like Steve tells me.
I know its really hard when stressed, but I got to push that cortisol aside, pretend like I can that is lol, and be as reasonable as possible and not add logic.
When you are not sure of an answer, remember not to freak out and read around that line in a P! And think of the main reason...don’t let fancier answer choices doubt you. Trust your gut too, sometimes, oof lol. Trust your gut after scanning!
emphatically - in a forceful way
Oh my. This was a hard last set of passages. It went from Russians to a lot of content in a HIV passage to some museum (that I handled well, thankfully) to some weird art passage that I was so lost, to a famous museum which was a little hard to figure out how the author felt about it, but thankfully, it clicked and then a historical passage!!! That was brutal. But its teaching me that I need to get less freaked out when this happens...and calm down and look beyond all that mess and find the main idea. Which I promise to work on...

AAMC FL2
Let me just say that I feel so much lighter with this score. Converting to percentages, I got approximately a 128!!!! This means so much to me because last time, I got a 124...and that was horrible. So, I’m going in the right direction. Have to keep my head up high and hustle in these (now less than two weeks) till test day. Regardless of my scores in NextStep tomorrow and from JW in these remaining days, take it with a grain of salt because AAMC is the most representative and those guys are wack. Confidence is the biggest thing. You got this Manuela!!!!!!!!!! Feels so weird to say this in third person, and it makes me happy that whenever I read this I think of my beautiful friends.
Okay. Let’s see what happened.
Be wary of themes (most likely the main idea) that flows into other paragraphs. If a question stem is directing you to a specific P, and no answer choice seems to be specific to it, think of the overall flow and main idea.
When answering a question that has a lot of conditions from the passage, safer to quickly scan back and make sure I got them.
Careful not to add logic. I know...I remember freaking out answering this question cause I was going over...but. Take a deep breath. Like Steve said, don’t argue semantics! Haha.
jest -joke
prosperity - wealth, value
eremite -hermit (ME lol)
oratory - a small chapel,
supersede - replace
anachronistic -belonging to a period other than that being portrayed.
hewn - chopped
intrepid - fearless
precipice - cliff
atonement - reparation
invariably - always
prime -best
Be careful with important statements that are made in the passage, such as there is “creativity loss with age” since this is mentioned I can’t add logic...and think well maybe if you delay experience...you’ll still have some creativity. Why am I like this lol, I got no time haha. But I have to be careful. I got to stop arguing lol.
onslaught -attack
appropriate - take (something) for one's own use, typically without the owner's permission.
So so so hard. But try not to add logic.
I guess a pandemic is more structured biological process than a revolution...more dynamic.

Day 52
Finished my Darwin passage in 8 minutes...hmmm
Oh my goodness. Somehow I didn’t read one of the answer choices carefully...man. And I had the extra time (crying emoji). Please please please read carefully. Nonetheless, I only missed one and finished this passage fast, so super proud!!!
OLD AAMC
I know, I know..easier said than done. But read precisely <33 but I’m proud of myself! Only missed one on this passage too <3333 keep yooooo foot in the gas.
AAMC
polemicist - a person who engages in controversial debate.
pagan - non-Christian

Day 51.
So my little itty Uworld baby had an extra passage and it was philosophical!! So good practice. Got a 40% lol. But have to be uncomfortable for these two weeks...cause....that’s the only way I will become stronger.
scaffolding - a temporary structure
unkemptness - a lack of order
facilely - superficially
empiricism - the theory that all knowledge is derived from sense-experience.
Read. Precisely. Need to become super interested in all of these topics I swear...no cholo voice though..scarred lol
empirical - factual
idealistic - unrealistically aiming for perfection
spiritualism - a system of belief or religious practice based on supposed communication with the spirits of the dead, especially through mediums
sentiment - point of view
elementary - straightforward
I miss Uworld...
OLD AAMC
rudimentary - yah basic
Timing is scary. But...take your time and read carefully.
From Princeton or AAMC: If an argument made in one paragraph continues on through other paragraphs, it may be useful or even necessary to look elsewhere in the passage for the answer to a line reference question. Boo.
I did better though! 5/7! This would totally be okay for test day...as long as I get one question wrong in one passage lol.
AAMC
illustrious - noteworthy
persecution - mistreatment
clarion - loud and clear
unequivocal - leaving no doubt
sovereign - possessing supreme or ultimate power.

Day 50
Oh man. This hurts...Got approximately a 124 in today’s JackWestin practice exam, New York.. now I know this ultimately depends on the questions and I shouldn’t be so sad before reviewing it but...idk why I tend to do worse before test day. Breaks my heart...but. It’s okay. One more question right and it would have been a 125. Story of my life lol...but let’s see what happened. And I promise to do some reaaaaal hardcore investigating of what went wrong. Also! Remember that these third party resources won’t be exactly like AAMC...so it’s okay. I just have to trust in God and my potential and try my best to keep learning from my mistakes and not letting that number define me. Also, also. Reddit. Someone got a 55% on this test, (I got a 64%) and they got a 128 on the real deal...so. Echale ganas (crying emoji).
Alright. So...the first passage was an altruist passage and I should have picked the more neutral answer...because these “effective” altruists were not saints per say, they just wanted to do the most good...and as uncomfortable it is to stray from my definition...ALWAYS GO WITH THEIR WORDS lol (Missed two questions because of this)
concrete - realistic
Oh art passages...I was frazzled by a particular question...and I think with practice I’ll be able to better map out the passage in relation to an example...remember, always remember, precise reading ftw!!!
Remember, even if an answer looks so good...question yourself for strengthen / weaken. If it’s not what the author mentioned....it’s not a good argument. This would be different if it were a...”assumed to be true” question.
fiscal - related to government revenue
prudence - judgment
Okay...I wasn’t sure of my answer...but I didn’t know what prudence was...so...now I know lol.
Ahh okay. I need to be careful with reading the question stem carefully (crying emoji). Cause yeahhhh. The question was asking about the author’s proposed solution...not the problem
When in doubt...go with the author’s voice!
Oh my goodness...trust your gut with the author’s tone. Trust.
With main idea questions...always go for what can be most supported throughout the passage. They always put two similar, good answers...
This passage would be most appropriate for: Who is the intended audience??
Oh my goodness this one question was so funnny/hard. But always go for the least logic...and not as extreme!
This makes me sad because I changed this answer seconds before my exam ended. Never doing that again because that would have given me the 125. Only change the answer when you are 100% sure.
incitement -urging
Okay. The last passage was definitely the hardest for me to follow...and I missed four questions from it. I had sufficient time. So. I definitely have to figure out how to focus and follow passages like these...because my score is on the line. Practice. Practice. Practice. But...it would have been -3 if I hadn’t switched my answer lol.
Honestly, at this point I need to secure the bag by accurately understanding each passage. That will be enough for test day. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this. Honestly...I think I’m just going to pick weird Art / Philosophy / History passages in the mornings from now on. I think that is the only way I’ll do better, at least with comp. Will be working on that rn.

Day 49
Oooohkay this was a philosophical JW...scared. very scared. Let’s see...
It seemed like the correct answer and my answer were a bit too strong...but I have should have taken a breather and realized that my answer was unnecessarily strong
practical - real, actual
Similarly, I got another question wrong because I thought the correct answer was too off...but when you are unsure, take a breather and read closely. precisely. The answer did not say “type” but “of”...
I know it can be difficult...but always try to interweave the main idea to those analogies!! lol.
So. With these scary passages, take a breather. You got this.
Old AAMC I have failed Wilson (crying emoji). My logic was off...need to be careful...this was also a time sunk cause my logic was off. Wehhhh
AAMC
dingy - gloomy
buttressed - supported
resplendent - magnificent

Okay. Just need to breathe and take it day by day...
JW
I was a little confused with the correct answer choice...but when reading the explanation for it, it makes sense. It attacks the main argument more than my answer.
Great! Celebrating the small victories. Just missed one question and God knows that is all I could ever ask for (crying emoji).
Old AAMC
Okay Manuela...when both answers look good, time to double check. I had the time too.
I did well on old AAMC too (crying emoji). Just missed one...that I should have went back for. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this.

epistemology - theory of knowledge
