Random Vocab with a 9 Year Old ____________________________ 9/7/2023

my current favorite way (it's the least stressful and embarrassing method) to learn new vocab is to talk with kids, particularly ones without a ton of english skills. So L (not going to put full names here for privacy reasons), the kid I live with has been helping me out by talking about random stuff and playing school. so this is the first time I'm actually documenting the vocab, but I think that will help greatly in my retention of the information.

New Vocab:

wenn = if

Genie = Genie (m)

Wünsche = wish (f)

geben = to give

würden = would

teleportierkraft = teleportation powers

unendlich = infinite

Autor = author (m)

Freizeitpark = amusement park (m)

Ausgestorben = extinct

We started first talking about the questions in a book called Burn After Writing. It's a book of journaling prompts (that you can find all the questions to here), but I like to use it as conversation starters sometimes. So the first prompt we chose was what you would do with three wishes from a genie. L would wish for 3 books. I said I would wish for the power of teleportation, infinite money, and the power to give immortality to whoever I chose. Next, L asked about a movie I was watching with her sisters. So I told her about Jurassic Park. I also drew a picture of a dinosaur doll she has.

Attempt At Writing in German:

Wir hat zuerst darüber dieses Fragen auf ein Buch heißt Burn After Writing gesprachen. Die erste Fragen war, "wenn ein Genie dir drei Wünsche geben würde, was sind sie?". L würde drei Bücher wünschen. Ich hab gesagt dass, wenn ein Genie mir drei Wünsche geben würde, sie würden Teleportierkraft, unendliches Geld, und unendlisches Leben für die ich will sein. Danach hat L darüber ein Film gefragt. So ich hab mit ihr darüber Jurassic Park gesprachen. Ich hab "a rich guy hat Dinos sind nicht Ausgestorben sind gemacht" und "Jurassic Park ist der Freizeitpark mit die Dinos".

That's it for now. Please comment any corrections; I know my grammar and spelling and vocabulary is not the best right now and I am really trying to improve quickly because I am going to be living and working in Germany for the next 6 months.

First Post

I've been meaning to start a language blog and get serious with my studies, but just didn't find the time. Now that I've been living in Germany for almost 2 months now, I guess this would be a good time to learn German. tbh it's very necessary and I'm kinda freaking out lolz,,,,,,,,,
