#this is always such a weird conversation bc i feel like the problem is the astrologization of anything and everything.#we will find an us v them narrative in everything if it kills us.#but it is not easy to study this sort of therapeutic method. so much of it is subjective. it isn’t possible to thoroughly blind.#the guy who invented it sucked.#HOWEVER it isn’t actually bad. It’s just limited.#The overall idea of someone maybe showing love differently than you and learning how they show and receive love#in order to reciprocate is a super good thing actually. there is some minor evidence that it works. It’s just… limited.#but people love identities. we love labelling ourselves. especially in ways that give us explanations for our behaviour#and rules to follow to make a good life. a desire for those rules are the original problem.#we get taught/decide that there are right and wrong ways to love and be loved. That if someone doesn’t act in the way you imagined#then they aren’t right for you. the love languages thing breaks that apart a bit#but we want social things to be True and False so badly. We want to understand ourselves and our relationships in a concrete way.#so something that starts as a decent framework through which you can reevaluated your social and emotional habits#gets turned into a Natural Law and a piece of your Identity.#I’m an INFP Hufflepuff Virgo with a gift-giving love language. If I follow the rules of those personality types then I will be able#to online quiz my way to happiness.#Like the guy who wrote it sucks but he did break down something in a pretty digestible way. The idea of love languages isn’t BAD.#You just can’t make it the be-all-end-all. But nothing that comes from social sciences is going to ever be a nice box inside of which#you can pack yourself and the people around you.#also bad people sometimes have good insights. bc bad also isn’t a perfectly-sized box that can contain a person#also i dont think he ever claimed that anyone only receives love one way. i don’t think anyone has ever believed that.

i live in the most haunted house in the northern hemisphere because i keep buying cursed dolls and cracking them open like pistachios to release the ghosts inside em. see i've got this business idea and it's to unethically harvest their ectoplasm and sell it in little jars like honey. unfortunately i've hit a snag, namely that ectoplasm tastes like shit and also if you ingest it you permanently lose the capacity to feel joy. so now i've got a bunch of unsatisfied customers who are literally impossible to please banging on my door at all hours. it doesn't really matter though because the ghosts are already constantly slamming all my doors and cabinets so it's just a wall of sound in here at all times anyway. i'm pretty sure i've got tinnitus now but on the upside i've got this new business idea where i repair old dolls with kintsugi and sell them at a ridiculous markup to etsy women in cuffed corduroy pants.
