And to finish off my day of posts, here’s one of my favorite songs to release in the past year or so. It’s written so delicately well, down to the slight irregularity of the opening synth. Damn good stuff. There’s a reason it’s gotten a lot of attention.
I’m reallllly looking forward to what Sylvan Esso does in the future. I have a feeling their next album could blow up.

Here’s a song from Titus Andronicus’ 2012 album so you can compare how their sound has changed in 3 years. Admittedly, it’s not a huge difference, they’re pretty consistent. High energy, with a solid melody mixed into a punk feel.
The 2012 album is called Local Business, and the song is Upon Viewing Oregon’s Landscape with the Flood of Detritus.

Also, dropping in the next week (July 28) is Titus Andronicus first LP since 2012. Aaaand it’s a concept album. Aaaannd it’s 29 songs long. Count me as intrigued.
Here’s the song Stranded (On My Own) from the new album, called The Most Lamentable Tragedy.

It’s global release Friday, so I’ll do a little talking bout new / upcoming albums. There’s not a lot that stood out on the day for me, so I’ll touch on what’s to come in the next few weeks.
In two weeks, Mac DeMarco’s new LP, Another One, drops. The singles have been solid--nothing mind-blowing, but solid. I’ll be interested to listen to it as a whole when the times comes.
This is the first single he released back in May, The Way You’d Love Her.

Another fantastic album from last year: Tremors by SOHN.
This is one of those artists that blew my friends and I away on just one listen. All of his beats feel carefully planned and meaningful, and it goes a long way. It feels like he’s a more complete artist than a lot of electronic stuff I hear nowadays.
The song here is The Wheel. If you don’t know French, just skip about 30-45 seconds in.

My buddy got me into Saintseneca’s old song Acid Rain a while back, but their most recent album surprised me. It’s a solid all around folksy indie rock album.
If you haven’t checked them out, do it! The album is Dark Arc, this song is the leadoff track Blood Bath.

This whole album was one of my favorite things as a kid. I loved the weirdness of the Unicorns.
AND I STILL DO

Thank you, Teams vs. Star Slinger, for making me just a little bit more productive.

Broken Social Scene is just too good. I never gave them a full listen until the past few weeks, and I’ve really gotten hooked. It’s just a great collection of artists making great sounds.
Also, it’s always good to find out that the sound is still great live.

Fantastic music video from a few years ago by The Internet.
It’s exactly what the song needs - just a simple, stylish groove. Sometimes music videos don’t need to do too much.

Example of just a solid all-around album:
Anything in Return - Toro y Moi (2013).
I respect any album that can keep up a unique sound from start to finish--a lot of albums nowadays crap out after the singles. Toro y Moi keeps this smooth hip hop electronic sound going for a full 13 songs.
Posted is song #8, High Living. Groove to it.

Shakey Graves is a great performer. Dude really puts a lot of passion into his playing, I draw a lot of inspiration from him into my own playing.
Wish I could see Shakey + Brittany Howard collaboration...

I’m also loving the Hot Chip cover from On an On.
Definitely my favorite Hot Chip track, and they did it justice with the cover. Didn’t do too much, added just enough to make it new.

On an On coming out with a new album this Friday.
This isn’t a new single from the new stuff--It’s just their best song, and the one keeping me hyped on what’s to come.
