Professional Profile Tutorial with Julie
Today I met with Julie go over the work I’ve done so far for my Professional Profile brief. So far I’ve created and edited my CV quite a few times, but I was really keen to hear Julie's input, and take her comments and advice on board so I could carry on with further amendments.
Once again we had a really successful tutorial, and I really am so grateful for her time, patience and commitment to helping others. I walked away ready to work on my CV, and edit my it and my personal statement.
Through our time together we edited my personal statement to a much stronger level, cutting down the waffle, keeping it to the point and reflecting my strongest skills. With my CV it was more a case of looking at the design and working on the layout, and I feel that I’m in a place ready for not only submission but also to take this CV out to industry. I’ve included all versions of my CV in my PDP file, with annotations and comments showing my progression to the final copy.

Thought I’d record a little of my progress with the professional profile brief on here, this is so far my progress with my CV. Bianca saw my first draft, which I’ve included in my PDP file, but this is the now 3rd edition I’m working on. I feel that spending so much time on InDesign with Infinite, has set me up well with future work and projects. I feel that my skills on InDesign, and designing in general, are a LOT stronger, and hopefully this comes across with my CV.
When I re-designed my business cards, I decided to also keep my personal statement, BC, CV, all with the same look and aesthetic. I wanted them to have this so it showcases my brand well, sorry Julie for all the pink!
With my CV, I’ve kept it short and to the point, including my skills and experience, but with my personal statement I want it to be more descriptive, so it can show my journalist writing skills fully. I’ll be spending today working on my CV, as well as personal statement to show Julie next week and here her thoughts.

Website update!
Because my domain wouldn't work on Wix :( I’ve now had to create another website on another platform. I’m really gutted about this, because I spent so much time on the Wix template, and was really happy with the option I created to submit your own story. I was also really pleased with the overall layout and look, but as Infinite is being printed, and I’m including the domain in, I needed to do this. Of course, when submitting all my work, I’ll include both websites.
I experimented with Tumblr, but wordpress to be slightly better. When I used to have my own website, I used this platform so am familiar with the set up and how to use it. Although saying that, the freedom to build your own website layout is extremely limited, sad face.
however, I still have time to work on this, as the deadline is on the 26th. These are some screenshots from my wordpress site, which has my domain infinitemagazine.uk I wanted to display some imagery from my magazine, but also have an option where you can submit your own story.

Tutorial with Yuki & Julie, go ahead to print, woohoo!
What a productive day! This morning I met with Yuki to go over Infinite, I wanted her input as she’s always very honest. During our tutorial she mentioned how it was really small changes now, like keeping the font, type face etc consistent. After our tutorial I amended all the changes she mentioned, and have now edited the type face throughout the magazine, as well as the font size and colour. Yuki also said that I needed to edit the colour on the questions throughout, as I’d only done it on a few articles, phew that was lucky! I feel that Infinite is now taking serious shape. After my meeting with Yuki, and spending time working on InDesign, I then had a final tutorial with Julie. Julie has been so supportive, informative and overall absolutely fabulous through her short time with me, with everything that was going on, with Bianca off etc, she really did come in at the right time, and I am so thankful for her. During our tutorial, we went through Infinite, I'm sure she must be so bored looking at it, but sure enough she had valuable feedback that I was so happy to hear. Concluding our tutorial, Julie said that she was now happy for me to print, YAY! So I quickly headed back to Tansley's, and sent off the proof to bereforts in Hastings where it’ll be printed and bonded. The quote that my uncle received last time is actually incorrect, as back then I had 44 pages, and now have 72, gulp. Whatever the price is, I’ll pay it. Infinite has become so much more than my FMP for uni, its been my labour of love, and truly I am so proud of myself. I feel that this is just the start for me, and I want to continue getting better and stronger at magazine creating and designing. Now time to print!

This is a little screenshot from today, I decided that my previous business card could do with some work... I really do think my design skills have come on so much recently, and this was due to creating Infinite, my knowledge and confidence using InDesign has really developed, and I want to keep developing! With this in mind, and Infinite almost ready to print, I decided to turn my attention to the professional profile brief, already I’d been working on my PDP folder, job searches, and had made a BC, but I wanted to refine it. I felt that my previous one, didnt match my aesthetic of my brand, I wanted to keep it similar to the layout of Infinite, as well as my CV, so when I approach sponsors, attend interviews, send of my PDF’s to potential employers, my work has a certain ‘look’ which showcases my branding. I decided to ditch the logo I’d designed (eek) which I've also scrapped in Infinite, in previous copies which I've included in my PDP I had it on the first page, but decided that it looked naff, I'm better than that now! I spent some time on InDesign going back to my business card, making the font bigger, and also having ‘Infinite” boldly displayed on the front, although I had my previous cards printed (oops), I think this new edition showcases myself and work better, I’ll be including this in my digital publicity package.

In the 4th copy I printed of Infinite, I decided to have a front cover image, but actually when printed it just didn't look right, I have included all annotations in my PDP folder, and instead chosen this one. A similar image but I've edited it carefully so it still has the same tattoo in, and no face included. I also decided to have ‘Issue 1′ at the bottom with the USP of Infinite, so the reader with even opening it will have an idea what Infinite is about; telling stories.

NIGHTMARE MORNING
So far today before work, I have created websites on three, yes, THREE separate website hosts in a desperate attempt to find one that will connect with my domain that I’ve already purchased on go daddy.
This is a screen grab from my wix account, so far I'd had a really good experience, I loved the layout I'd designed, I especially loved the contact form I’d created, but to have my own domain, I’d need to pay £70 upwards, bollocks! So I tried squarespace to no avail, as well as Tumblr and finally settling on Wordpress. I was able to connect my domain, but I can't have my contact/submit your own story page.
I am incredibly stressed anyway because I have to send Infinite off to print this week, and already I am paying £290 for this. I just cannot justify spending another £70 on a domain name, I really can't afford it.
So, when submitting my work, I will include both websites, but in Infinite, and on my social media, I will only promote the wordpress account that has my domain name, my goodness what a pickle of a morning I've had!

Forgot to add in my last post, but as I'll be selling Infinite at Magazine Brighton, I’ve created a barcode on the back, with the name included, its definitely starting to feel like a magazine now!

Second tutorial with Julie Bentley
This morning I had my follow up tutorial with Julie, in this session we planned to look again at Infinite, following my progress and amendments I'd made to our previous discussion, and also the next steps in terms of printing next week. As we looked through, Julie commented how it seemed a lot stronger, and that it had a flow due to the consistency and time spent looking at design and layout.
As the layout is of a better quality and consistency, our next area of concern was the cover and contents page, I came away from our tutorial really ready, and excited to proceed with this, and I was happily at uni till about 4pm working on the contents and cover, which I know feel is strong. Julie had a look when she was in the FLA and was pleased with my progress, we’ll be meeting next week either Monday or Tuesday to have one final look at Infinite before I send it to print, eeeee!

I quickly took this during mine and Julie second tutorial where we were looking over the amendments of Infinite, an area of interest which we’re both keen for me to develop is the contents page. We spent some time looking through other magazines, and I particularly liked this layout !

Tutorial with Julie Bentley and Gayle
As Bianca is off, I was conscious that no lecturer or anyone besides my family had seen Infinite, and I was really keen for constructive feedback. Today I had a two hour long tutorial with both Julie and Gaye, and I can honestly say it was the most helpful two hours, I came away feeling ready to develop Infinite, taking on all the comments they made. These photos I took show previous years work, and I’d like to draw inspiration from them. I went through them with Julie, and we discussed how I could expand Infinies layout and design to make it stronger. I'm going to be spending tomorrow solely developing Infinite, and then on Thursday I have another tutorial with Julie organised so I can show her the amendments and move forward, a step in the right direction!
Discussing these images, I particularly like the consistency of the magazine. While I’m not focussed on the content, I’m more inclined to look at the overall design to gain inspiration for my own publication, and how I can do it better.

Meeting with Martin from Magazine Brighton to discuss launch event date
This morning before work I headed off to Brighton to meet with Martin following Roxy’s advice and discuss with Martin a suitable launch date. When I arrived I was met with a beaming smile and high five, as we’ve both been so busy we haven't seen each other, he’s been away for work and I’ve been busy creating Infinite, so it was great to catch up! As we spoke he looked through Infinite, at my business card, and mentioned how the 24th or 25th could work, and I said the 25th sounded good, so the 25th of May is the official launch date, YIKES! I feel full of excitement, nerves and everything in between! To meet with launch deadline, this means I now have to make sure I am ready to print by the end of this week to meet my deadline, I now that the official deadline is the 26th, but mine will be sooner than this to meet my launch. I am working this evening, but until then I am writing a detailed to do list, action plan for this week, and working on Indesign, its all coming together!

I’ve learnt a lot already creating Infinite, discovering new things I’d never even thought before, taking into consideration aspects that’ll affect the overall final print, and this screenshot is testament to that. With each page I’ve had to create my own sizing (seen here as ‘A4 with Bleed’) to make sure when its printed there enough space to trim that my content won't be cut off. Something quite boring but I thought valuable to document

Et Voila, this is the two images I re-edited and have now put on my InDesign, I’m going to export the whole document to PDF again and see how it looks before I make a final decision!

From the previous post, this is my editing process on Photoshop. I cropped the images, inversed then saved the new image, I really straight-forward technique but once I apply this to my InDesign template I think this will look really effective !
